Codeine is not a band substance. Even if he colluded with other staff of the company, the company is in no way liable. That is why he was sacked. Emzor's reputation is proven innocent as the staff abused his office. Why will they settle him and get blackmailed?

emzor is doing damage control

if the management s not culpable those 'straight from the oven' drugs will have all the dispatch/sales info indicating who they were delivered to.

if that info is not available, it means the guy and some people in the company were stealing company products. if this is the case, it is not sacking but a full investigation and prosecution

infact, no company will outrightly sack any staff in a case like this. it is first suspension, then investigation, then termination and possibly prosecution.

in this case an employee has been involved in criminal enterprise with their products.

all of what i wrote is in a case where they are not culpable. but they are.

when the full scale investigation starts, no one should shout persecution

when the heads roll at nafdac, no one should shout persecution

no, they are advocates of 'free enterprise'

you see them all over nl blathering about how tramdaol sellers are meeting a need and that the addicts are to blame

its business - like fake drugs and counterfeit foodstuffs

not really surprising since most of them are the same people that see nothing wrong in trafficking hard drugs and will make the same arguments

what they fail to realize is that drug addiction does not differentiate between tribe, race, social class, religious affiliation, gender, age.

i'm afraid that like kidnapping, this drug epidemic is already out of hand. i shared the bbc video with a lot of people, something i normally do not do - because every one of us, especially those of us with kids are at risk

Lol.

I guess they'll have to sack all sales rep with overboard targets.

I'm patiently waiting for his side of the story. Emzor might be on the verge of losing market integrity.

The fact that they sacked him outrightly means emzor sells codiene, simple!

At least a damage control would do. Maybe to frame him as a non-direct contract field agent (+_+)(+_+)(+_+)(+_+). Just like our FG does it. Emzor just hit a solid Rock. Sacking him does more damage.

Emzor sells codiene. Codiene is bad. Therefore, shall we now say Emzor is..... lipsrsealed

Na you talk am grin
Rubbish. Codeine is used in cough management and it is not illegal.
If Emzor has been marketing and distributing medications with codeine wrongly or through wrong channels, them, there is a problem.
If the sales rep did his own thing, then that is his problem especially if he is a pharmacist.

Wait,so Nigerian pharmaceuticals should stop producing cough medications with codeine because some illiterates decided to get addicted to it?
Well,it won't happen.
The northern governors should educate their youth and ban medications with codeine in the north.

the advocates of free enterprise

Nigerian pharmaceuticals have been partnering with criminals to flood the market with habit forming drugs.

is that too much for you to understand?

when the government clamps down with hard regulation and penalties, you will start crying wolf about persecution

when emzor and other companies get slapped with maximum allowed production quota per month with heavy auditing, you will understand

when they are asked to explain how they have millions in unaccounted for inventory sold, you will understand.

this is efcc/dss class stuff. and it is no longer under the radar

you also are living in the selfish and foolish delusion that this is somehow not your problem - that your sole role in this is that of seller , and never that of consumer.

much like kidnapping expanded from whites/expats to everyone, this drug scourge will do the same

a war on drugs is multi pronged. media campaigns are only one part of it. harsh punishments for traffickers and manufacturers and enablers is another part

Patriotism should be taught in schools,” she said. “This will make the people to know what it is all about. It is the same with corruption. The curriculum should explain to the children that some actions could lead to corrupt practices.

“You see, some of these young kids don’t even know which action leads to corruption and which one is not. We need to begin with them very early in order to inculcate the sense of patriotism in them. We must end this cycle of failure.”

“To date, the Foundation has set up the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and has trained over 1,600 entrepreneurs/students in the science and spirit of entrepreneurship. It has also reached over 5,000,000 people across Nigeria on lifestyle interventions,” she said with a sense of pride.

At that time, her entrepreneurial skill began to manifest. In 1981, she delved into drug importation and began the sale of ethical and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. This, she said “was intended to meet the health needs of Nigerians on quality drugs.”

1. Damage control, very true. Every well meaning company will do same.

2. "The Sales Rep depicted in the BBC video was initially placed on suspension and has now been summarily dismissed following an investigation. Any representations made by the Sales Rep are in breach of company policy and ethics and were undertaken independently by him." Qoutes from op.
Same line with your thinking.

3. Only God and those involved would ever know the truth.

Nigerian govt warns against use of medication containing codeine

April 10, 2018
Oladeinde Olawoyin

The Consumer Protection Council on Tuesday warned against the consumption of medication containing an opiate, codeine, without medical prescription.

A statement by Babatunde Irukera, Director General of the CPC, said codeine is an opiate, and one of many in the opioids family classified as a narcotic substance, although not an illegal drug.

Codeine is largely used as a pain reliever and cough suppressant. As such, it is an active ingredient in some expectorants or cough syrups.

The council said in exercise of the regulatory authority of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), expectorants/cough syrups containing codeine may not be dispensed as non-prescriptive Over the Counter (OTC) medication.

It added that it is illegal and a violation of law to attempt to purchase as well as dispense any such medication, except exclusively in accordance with prescription by a qualified and legitimate medical practitioner.

“Any possession, delivery or provision of these medications in the absence of a prescription, or legal acquisition but dispensing to a person other than whom it is specifically prescribed for, is a violation of law, constitutes drug abuse, and presents significant medical risks including possible injury, risky behaviour, addiction, and in extreme cases (especially pediatrics), fatality,” the CPC said.

“In particular, Codeine is implicated in serious adverse effects when taken with, or contemporaneously with alcohol or carbonated drinks. These methods of mixtures negatively interact and have become a serious and dangerous pattern which pose significant risks of debilitating side effects including respiratory difficulties, nervous system deficiencies and mental impairment.

“Emerging professional medical and regulatory preference is to prohibit prescription of cough medication containing codeine to minors because of its properties and propensity to promote addiction and other exposure to illegal drug use.”

The CPC advised that cough medication with codeine should be prescribed, dispensed and administered in an abundance of caution and only in strict compliance with professional medical direction, and in any case not prescribed for, dispensed to, or administered to minors.

“The Council also reminds consumers that violation of law with respect to dispensing, possessing and consuming illegal drugs, or legal drugs illegally is criminal and may subject offenders to apprehension, detention and prosecution, including by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and upon conviction, a sentence to a term of imprisonment,” the statement said.

I disagree with you. I just watched the video now and the sales rep was actually boasting that even if an addict does not have money, s/he is ready to part with the keys to their vehicle.

That statement alone is the major factor leading to his sack. He was selling straight to the end-user. Pharmaceutical companies do not sell to end-users directly but to registered and licensed pharmacies who now dispense to the public.

Cough medicines WITHOUT codeine is off-the shelf BUT not one with Codeine!

Emzor too must be sanctioned, you don't employ non-pharmacists to help sell drugs .....they would do anything just for the money!

even some pharmacists, doctors, nurses etc will do anything for the money.

God bless u for this.
I argued with someone about this that the sales person didn't sell anything illegal.
The mission of every company is to "sell more and make more money for the organization" and that's exactly what he did. The only problem is he sold it to the wrong guys. That's all.

This is a wrong image protection by Emzor, we know how they sell these drugs through the back door, how are they going to meet the unrealistic target you gave 'em without trying to run-smart the system.

Human right activists should take this up and fight for these man so that he can be paid for his worries and for using his own name to clean the mess of Emzor.

please, I have right to my opinions. I still blame all these on a non working government.

What do you mean by he is giving people what they want? So people like you will also say that arms dealers and cocaine traffickers, are giving people what they want? Are these set of people not also "fuelling their own urge to get food on the table for themselves, wives and children?"
