This is a great shame, a great shame actually. An interstate bridge should have the capacity to carry and withstand anything. Even if it is the burden of every Nigerian youth.
that's not the bridge linking anambra and IMO, its just linking one village to another

a local government that has no atm , why are u lying? OK what's the name of the local government

Igbos are like disease to their own selves.
They will spray money on others at weddings. Spend millions to marry a girl. Show off in luxury fleets and build exorbitant mansions in foreign.

In their own hometown, they will build second-class homes and fence it off. But the roads leading to their homes are piles of mess. They do not want the poor to benefit from their own wealth. They want to give salt and bread to the poor so as to be perpetually praised and held in high regards.

Look at their roads and bridges. Everyone cares about his personal cash. But the ogbo man is the first to contribute for any devopment in Lagos. Wherever there is no light, igbo man will move in there and personally pay for NEPA connection. The igbo man will aggitate for the construction of bridges in Lagos. They complain of traffic jam hence the government makes the moves.

Unfortunately in their own states, nothing moves. The only governor to have made major changes in the east is Sullivan who constructed roads which had been a major setback for Enugu state.

Okorocha built a statute of Zuma, a man regarded as a criminal in his own hometown. There is no agitation and no conscience at all. Funny enough people go to take selfies by these statutes of criminals.

The on-goings in Anambra is like a war of thugs. Everyone is choked up in his own pride. They want to measure up with the next person. Everyone wants to step on someone and no one wants to be stepped on. The spirit on negative competition. In all the money and boasts from Anambrarians, Anambra is still an eye-sore giving that development of the Igbos began started from there. The earliest top easterners who rose to the helms of any government position or who height of capitalism came from Anambra. They boast of it and they fail to realize that is it a curse. The very first president, first governor general, first senate president and first millionaire or billionaire all came from Anambra. But go to Anambra today, more than a half of her children are outside the state. They have invested trillions elsewhere. They cannot live in the mansions that they build in their hometown. It is like a curse. They are hugely involved in rituals and unscrupulous means of earnings. The average Anambrarian has dual-religion and is supportive of illegality.

People from Imo state have danced their waists to foolery. Imo and Abia are beautiful. They are the most beautiful of all Igbos. . But to what end? When you talk of Handicraft, Abia is grade-A. They create and they are decent. But, when the head is twisted the brain moves along with it.
People from Imo state have used their traditional to destroy themselves. The tradition and attitudes are very bad. Gossip and evil-oriented agendas have destroyed those people. They cannot move forward. Owerri is the helm of success in those places yet who wants to go to Owerri? No one!

The east is not a choice place to live for the average Igbo man. They are all seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

This bridge has been this way for years but no one cares. They will rather seek alternative route than repair a place that is not their very own plot.

Shame on the pride of igbos. It has eaten up your success.

Do not blame the government for everything. Lagos was not developed by the government, but by the people. Igbos inclusive. Igbos have developed even badagry. Today, there is not boundary between Lagos and Ogun state thanks to Igbos. Soon, there will be no border between Seme and Cotonou, thanks to Igbos.

This is Igbo through the eyes of an outsider.

So you spent a good part of your morning on this rant just to vent your spleen on Ndigbo? Any Igbo around you should watch his back!

Which group of people embark on self-help community projects more than Ndigbo? Any blame for a dearth in infrastructure in the SE should be placed at the doorsteps of gov't (both state and federal), leave Ndigbo out of your rant biko! Or you want to tell me that only Ndigbo have a problem with their state gov'ts, while those of other regions and ethnic groups are creating El-Dorados in their states?

If you so love Ndigbo, then join us to support IPOB! IPOB will help bring an end to all the mediocre leadership this 'one Nigeria' has foisted on us since the 70s!

OP this has nothing to do with Anambra.

Please save money and buy sense...

How can you compare the Niger bridge to this bridge?.. are they in anyway comparable... both in size/material etc
size doesn't matter, depends on the orginal design,as it regards reinforcements.

So from that picture, you can support that a truck of that magnitude should pass that bridge?

well.....the bridge was clearly wearing out sha. The truck driver should have considered i am sure he just wanted to risk it. I agree with you,but for the lack of maintenance but a notice restricting big trucks from passing, the authorities have to bear part of the brunt.

This is Igbo through the eyes of an outsider.

You are such a stinking, bigoted, hateful, ignorant Yoruba scum! Who asked you to write this purulent rubbish about an entire tribe?
Why not tell us about the thousands of ritualists Yoruba land especially Ogun and Osun states churn out.

For your information, Anambra is one of the top 12 most populous states in Nigeria, and has the 2nd highest population density after Lagos. What else do you want? How many more people do you want to force themselves into the tiny landmass?
Have you actually been to Anambra? If you have, you will realise that the state has very good state roads linking all the communities. The only 'issue' is that there are only few dual carriage roads, but is that really a problem?

You talk of Igbos not wanting to help their neighbors, and I ask, which tribes like helping more than Igbos? Why do you think Igbo land has the largest proportion of middle class families in Nigeria and fewer people who are very poor? It's because when someone succeeds in business, he gets his brothers, cousins, neighbours etc to serve him for a few years and are thereafter settled into the trade. That is how many families have been lifted from poverty. Again, it's in Igbo land these days that you will see community scholarship schemes, just to encourage all those who get admission into the higher institutions but cannot fund their studies to go to school. In my home town, there are several of such now.

Igbos lost almost everything after the civil war and yet 50 years down the line, they have caught up with and overtaken many of the other tribes. You think this feat was achieved with the spirit of animosity rather than oneness?

About Igbos developing other regions, you make little to no sense. Many of those guys building houses and buying up properties in Lagos or other cities went to those cities without anything. They made their money there, and are also making several millions from their investments. Even those who only built or bought houses as their residence are at least saving the money they would have been paying as rent. If they built those houses in the east, they wouldn't make as much money cos they population is not there. Its still the same way an Ekiti man will rather own a house in Lagos than Ado Ekiti cos the population is in Lagos. It has nothing to do with Yoruba land.
But let me clear this for you, most Igbo traders who are successful in their businesses build duplexes in their villages, especially those of Anambra extraction.

You people should stop saying that rubbish. Igbos are not deserting their land. We are business oriented, and because the South East is more than saturated with markets and shops, people look out for other virgin lands to go and ply their trade. Its all about buying and selling. My cousin served at Malam Fotori in Borno state more than 10 years ago. Despite the town being 6 hours from Maiduguri and close to the borders of Chad and Niger, there were many Igbos living there who were traders, helping to sustain the economic life of that area. Those guys who were mainly chemists have very fine houses in their own home towns.

The bridge in question is one of over ten major linkages between Anambra and Imo states. The driver in question would have used a better road, for example the dual carriage Onitsha – Owerri Road to access the town he was going to, but he most likely wanted to take a short cut, without putting his common sense to use. There are many other roads linking the different communities that share a boundary between Anambra and Imo (Google Map will clear your doubt). The driver could have used any of those roads cos most if not all of them are good.

An old colonial-era bridge still connects Anambra and Imo state?

But what are these people in government doing sef? From the local government peeps to HOA and HOR member representing that constituency? State and Federal government too?

Oga, the article clearly said its a LOCAL bridge.
There are more than 10 major roads connecting Anambra and Imo states.

The driver was stupid to have decided to climb that tiny bridge with a full trailer load of cement. That tells the kind of dumb people we have on the roads driving heavy duty vehicles, people who can't make very simple rational decisions like this. No wonder Dangote trucks keep sending hundreds of Nigerians to death every year.

Rubbish! Hope you know that the 2nd and third largest economies in the world are in the East ie China and Japan. Do I also need to remind you that South Korea, Singapore and Australia are in the Eastern world, even though Australia is regarded as the west cos its similar in culture and lifestyle to the UK and Canada?

Talking about undeveloped local government areas, can you mention the developed places you have in Ondo, Osun, Ekiti states? Apart from Ibadan, where else in the entire Oyo state is developed?
Many of you Yorubas are pathetic online. Everything you can boast of is all about Lagos.

As for trooping to Lagos, let the country be restructured first. Let us get our own seaport (or at least one in the south south), Standard International Airport, Embassies etc and let's see if the number of Igbos living in Lagos won't be cut down.

Of course, you prefer the average northerner (whatever that is) to the westerners but that doesn't stop you hate-filled lot from trooping down to yorubaland, in search of a better life. However, that doesn't stop the so-called "average northerner" from taking off your flat-heads at the drop of a koran or any other puerile reasons.

Mr. "Einstein", it's a FACT that there are more ibos in yorubaland than there are yorubas in your barren enclave!

This is not an accurate description of Igbo people

The truth remain that govt has failed across the country, That's it
I agree with you. If you notice in my comment I tried to omit the government because that is another long chapter.

I am talking about the same things done in Lagos. Self-reliance and self-progressive effort by the Igbos. If you lived in Lagos in the 70s you will agree with me that the major industrialization and development were spearheaded by the Igbos.

I am not taking anything away from the Yorubas but I am saying all those villages and forests in Lagos were developed by the Igbos.

God bless you.

It'll probably take a decade until that bridge is fixed. What have we done to merit such an incompetent government?

Any and all connections, imagined or real, between Anambra and Imo is hereby severed!

We will not repair this bridge until after elections. Anybody caught swimming across from Anambra to Imo immediately before or during election will be shot, if he survive he will be shot again.

Okorocha son in-law shall be put in government house.

That unicem company should pay for every dime to fix that local bridge or be forced to upgrade it, dont be surprised he is dodging from security outfits.

Why in the world would even an illiterate driver drive a truck through such a local bridge with metal floorings.. now a truck loaded with cement..
The illiterate may be an almajiri.
