I got this question "is it normal to menstruate during pregnancy?" from a client today.

I decided to write about it as a blog post for the benefit of those that might have the same challenge... not to worry we will continue our heart series in our next post.

Hello guys, I believe we all had a great day.

So, the question ❓ is:

Can you get your period while you're pregnant?

No. You can't have your menstrual period while you're pregnant.

Some women do have vaginal bleeding during pregnancy.

Some even report intermittent bleeding that seems like a regular period to them.

But vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not the same thing as menstruation.

Menstruation only happens when you're not pregnant:

Each month, your uterus grows a thick blood-rich lining in preparation for an egg to embed there.

If you don't get pregnant that month, you shed this tissue and blood – that's your menstrual period.

But once an egg embeds in the uterine lining, hormones tell the blood-rich tissue to stay intact to support the growing baby.

And you won't shed it and start having your period again until your pregnancy is over.

Bleeding occurs during pregnancy for various reasons, some serious and some not.

Some women have light bleeding or spotting in the week before their period is due and they may mistake that for a period.

It's generally a lot lighter than a typical period and lasts just a day or two.

This spotting has been called "implantation bleeding" because of the idea that it might be caused by the fertilized egg burrowing into the blood-rich lining of the uterus.

But no one knows what really causes it.

You may have spotting after a Pap smear, vaginal exam, or sex.

This is because there's more blood going to your cervix during pregnancy.

Bleeding can also be a sign of something seriously wrong, such as an infection, placental problems, miscarriage, or an ectopic pregnancy, which can be life-threatening.

If you notice bleeding while you're pregnant, call your doctor or midwife right away, even if the bleeding has stopped.

Many women who bleed a little during pregnancy deliver without complications, but you may need an evaluation to rule out a serious problem.

If you're actively bleeding or have severe pain of any kind, head straight to the emergency room.

We have been doing a series on the HEART for some days now and the aim is to bring the

trend of death due to Heart attack and Heart Diseases to our faces.

Also to help us understand what is really going on in there. 

I said that because there are solutions to every Heart Disease (cardiovascular disease).

In our last post, we looked at the connection between the Heart and Erectile Dysfunction. 

Today our focus is on the relationship between the Heart and  "STROKE".


Think of a stroke as a "brain attack"— it is an emergency!

When symptoms appear, call for help immediately; every minute counts.

A stroke occurs when the brain is deprived of blood supply. Without oxygen, brain cells die.

Depending on the area affected, a person may have problems speaking, walking, seeing, or thinking.

A stroke may result in permanent brain damage or death.

If the stroke is caused by a blood clot, a clot-busting drug may be used to restore blood flow.

Blood supply of the brain
To understand stroke, it is helpful to know how blood circulates to the brain (see Anatomy of the Brain).

Blood is pumped from the heart and carried to the brain by two paired arteries,

the internal carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries.

The internal carotid arteries supply the anterior (front) areas, the vertebral arteries supply the posterior (back) areas of the brain.

After passing through the skull, the right and left vertebral arteries join together to form a single basilar artery.

The basilar artery and the internal carotid arteries communicate with each other in a ring at the base of the

brain called the Circle of Willis.

The middle cerebral artery is the artery most often blocked during a stroke

A stroke is a sudden interruption of the blood supply to the brain.

The internal carotid arteries form the anterior (green) circulation and

the vertebral/basilar arteries supply the posterior (red) circulation of the brain.

The two systems connect at the Circle of Willis (circle).

Please pardon all this medical jargon, just want to give us a visual explanation of stroke.

Types of stroke include:
A) Ischemic stroke due to a build-up of atherosclerotic plaques,

B) An embolic stroke from blood clots that stick to plaques and break off,

C) A hemorrhagic stroke from bleeding into the subarachnoid space, and

D) Intracerebral hemorrhage from tiny vessel ruptures due to hypertension.

Types of stroke

(“is-skeem-ic”) stroke occurs when an artery to the brain is blocked.

Ischemic stroke is by far the most common kind of stroke, accounting for about 88 percent of all strokes.

Stroke can affect people of all ages, including children.

The brain depends on its arteries to bring fresh blood from the heart and lungs.

The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain and takes away carbon dioxide and cellular waste.

If an artery is blocked, the brain cells (neurons) cannot make enough energy and will eventually stop working.

If the artery remains blocked for more than a few minutes, the brain cells may die.

This is why immediate medical treatment is critical

Embolic stroke
- is caused when a clot breaks off from the artery wall it becomes an embolus,

which can travel farther down the bloodstream to block a smaller artery.

Emboli usually come from the heart, where different diseases cause clot formation.

Hemorrhagic stroke
- (less common - 13% of cases) is caused by the rupture or leaking of an artery either within or around the brain.

It occurs when a weakened blood vessel ruptures, releasing blood into the space surrounding the brain.

This is called a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).

It can be caused by a ruptured aneurysm (Fig. 2C), arteriovenous malformation (AVM), or head trauma.

 Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH):
is known as Bleeding within the brain tissue itself and is primarily caused by hypertension (Fig. D).

Hypertension is an elevation of blood pressure which may cause tiny arteries to burst inside the brain.

In continuation with our HEART SERIES; we are looking at STROKE: Signs, Symptoms, Causes, Types, and Treatment.

Let us refresh our memory again from our last post on

STROKE; When the brain's blood supply is inadequate, a stroke results.

Strokes are brain attacks.

They occur when the blood supply to the brain becomes blocked.

A stroke is a medical emergency that needs immediate medical attention.

Stroke symptoms (for example, loss of an arm or leg function or slurred speech) signify a medical emergency because, without

treatment, blood-deprived brain cells quickly become damaged or die, resulting in brain injury, serious disability, or death.

This Health and Beauty 102 article will explain why strokes occur and how they are treated,

as well as exploring the different types and the steps a person can take to prevent a stroke.

Signs of a Stroke

The F.A.S.T. test was designed in 1998 to help ambulance staff in the United Kingdom quickly assess stroke.

It takes into account the most common symptoms of stroke and is designed to help quickly assess a stroke

with very little training.

F.A.S.T. Test
F means face -- If one side of the face droops, it's a sign of a possible stroke
A means arms -- If the person cannot hold both arms out, it's another possible stroke sign
S means speech -- Slurring words and poor understanding of simple sentences is another possible stroke sign
T means time -- If any of the FAS signs are positive, it's Time to call 9-1-1 immediately

Stroke Symptoms

What are the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke?
There may be no warning signs of a stroke until it occurs.

It is why high blood pressure (hypertension), one of the risk factors for stroke, is called the silent killer.

Initial symptoms of a stroke can occur in someone suddenly. Know these signs of a stroke:

The Difficulty speaking
They have Difficulty understanding or confusion, especially with simple tasks
There is Difficulty with muscle strength, especially on one side of the body
Difficulty with numbness, especially on one side of the body
Severe headache
Vision changes (in one or both eyes)
Also Difficulty with swallowing
Facial droop on one side

What Causes a Stroke?
Common causes of stroke come from blood vessels both outside and inside the brain.

Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) can occur when plaque (deposits of cholesterol, calcium, fat, and other substances)

builds up and narrows the vessel making it easy for clots to form and further occlude the vessel.

The clots can break free only to occlude smaller vessels inside the brain.

The blood vessels inside the brain itself can accumulate this plaque.

Occasionally, weakened vessels can burst and bleed into the brain.

Diagnosing Types of Stroke
There are two main types of strokes (ischemic and hemorrhagic) and they are treated differently.

They are often emergently diagnosed by a head CT scan (or an MRI scan).

Ischemic Stroke[/b]

This slide shows a CT scan of an ischemic stroke, which is responsible for about 80% to 90% of all strokes.

Ischemic strokes are caused by clots that reduce or stop blood flow to the brain.

The clot may develop elsewhere in the body and circulate to become lodged in a blood vessel in the brain,

or the clot may originate in the brain.

Ischemic strokes are usually divided into two main subtypes: thrombotic and embolic.

[b]Thrombotic Stroke

Nearly half of all strokes are thrombotic strokes.

Thrombotic strokes are caused when blood clots form in the brain due to a diseased or damaged cerebral artery.

Embolic Stroke

Blood clots also cause embolic strokes.

However, in the case of embolic strokes, the blood clot forms in an artery outside the brain.

Often these blood clots start in the heart and travel until they become lodged in an artery of the brain.

The physical and neurological damage embolic strokes cause is nearly immediate.

Hemorrhagic Stroke[/b]

The circle insert outlines what composes a hemorrhagic stroke.

A blood vessel in the brain breaks open and blood escapes into the brain under pressure, compressing other blood

vessels and brain cells causing damage and death.

This bleeding into the brain is difficult to stop and is more likely to be fatal.

There are two types of hemorrhagic strokes: intracerebral and subarachnoid.

[b]Intracerebral Stroke
 means “within the brain,” and it refers to a stroke caused by a diseased blood vessel bursting within the brain.
Intracerebral strokes are usually caused by high blood pressure.

Subarachnoid Stroke
A subarachnoid hemorrhage refers to bleeding immediately surrounding the brain in the area of the

head called the subarachnoid space.

The main symptom of a subarachnoid stroke is a sudden, severe headache, possibly following a popping or snapping feeling.

Many factors can cause a subarachnoid stroke, including head injury, blood thinners, bleeding disorders

and bleeding from a tangle of blood vessels known as an arteriovenous malformation.

Mini-Stroke (TIA)

"Mini-strokes" (also termed transient ischemic attacks or TIAs) are temporary blockages of blood vessels in the brain.

TIAs can produce mild stroke symptoms that resolve.

TIAs often occur before a stroke happens, so they serve as warning signs that the person may need stroke preventive therapy.

Mr. Kenneth Onwe almost lost his bedroom GROOVE and marriage to an enlarged prostate.

What Is Visceral Fat?

Visceral fat is technically excess intra-abdominal adipose tissue accumulation. In other words, it’s known as a “deep” fat that’s stored further underneath the skin.

It’s a form of gel-like fat that’s actually wrapped around major organs, including the liver, pancreas and kidneys.

Visceral fat is sometimes referred to as 'active fat' because research has shown that this type of fat plays a distinctive and potentially dangerous role affecting how our hormones function.

A relatively good indicator of visceral fat is to take a waistline measurement.

Having a lean belly is a key indicator of health, so your body tries to preserve this by controlling your appetite and energy expenditure.

To prevent dangerous fat buildup, the body basically works like an orchestra of chemicals that tells us when to eat and when we are full.

This chemical feedback system, which is built on communication between the brain and other major organs is what’s responsible for either keeping us at a healthy weight or making us more susceptible to weight gain and visceral fat storage.

When a man urinate more than 2 times at night before morning; there is a malfunction of the prostate gland.

Hello Everyone, It's been a while...
Happy New Month... Welcome to the month of September and this month happens to be the month of Prostate Cancer all over the world.

The aim and Objective of this month September chosen to be the month for Prostate Cancer is to:
1.Create awareness and spread the news about the dangers of Prostate Disorders in Men,
2. What are the Red flags and Tell-tale signs to look out for,
3. How to Prevent it and How to manage and reverse it's complication and bring back to it's original size....

So today I will be sharing the most common Sexual/Bedroom problems of most men and even women and amazingly How it relates to Their Prostate Health.
These are;
1. ED-Erectile Dysfunction; Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. It's also sometimes referred to as impotence. ... Frequent ED can be a sign of health problems that need treatment.

2. PE- Premature Ejaculation (locally called Sharp-sharp coming): Orgasm and emission or release of semen occurring just before or shortly after beginning sexual intercourse. OR Ejaculation of semen during sexual intercourse before or immediately after penetration.

So, what is the Connection Between these sexual problems and The Prostate Gland?

First of all, Let's establish what the Prostate Gland is and where it is found in the body of a man...

▪Its a Walnut-sized gland, weighs about 1gm at birth and grows to about 20gm at puberty and from 40 years on, it enlarges rapidly up to 5 times its normal size for some men

▪Positioned under the bladder above the penis, connected to a network of tubes, taking fluids in and our of it.

▪The Prostate is a Gland. A gland is any organ in our body that produces its own fluids, and secretes these fluids. 

It is actually not just one single gland but rather, a group of glands (about 30-50 glands) that have ducts (tubes) that collect these fluids it produces.

So guys, just think of it that you carry a "Juice factory in your bodies. Its job is to produce a fluid called Prostate Fluid which makes up as much as ONE-THIRD of Semen volume.
(Note: Semen is that fluid men release at the climax of sexual acts locally called sperm)

But then we all know that every factory needs raw materials for production...abi?

Well so does your prostate. 

A very important constituent of this Prostate fluid, is an enzyme called PSA

The prostate also needs hormones from your testicles to function and minerals to produce that fluid that provides a conducive environment for our sperm to swim well.

I mentioned earlier that the prostate is connected to a network of tubes...indeed its the most perfect plumbing system devised!!!

Lets do a little Anatomy lecture now....

We all have two kidneys  whose job is to process and excrete liquid waste from our bodies, into  a collapsible sack with strong muscles called the BLADDER

This sac is made to take approx 35cl of liquid waste (Coke bottle), but can be forced to now carry over 1.5L (big Eva Bottle�), when urine released gets constricted - Bladder Outlet Obstruction (BOO)

A tube is connected to the underneath of your bladder to drain out urine and this tube is called the URETHRA

This tube drains out urine, to exit it at the tip of your penis

The Prostate lies just underneath the bladder. The word PROSTATE takes its root from the Greek word  prostates which literally means one who stands before.

This describes its exact location..the Prostate gland,  STANDS BEFORE the bladder if you are viewing from the tip of your penis.

The Urethra drains urine from the bladder and passes right through the very center of your prostate.

The prostate actually wraps itself around this tube.

Just imagine a walnut with a hole in its center. Your prostate is that walnut and through that hole, your urethra passes through.



It Produces Prostate fluid and receives fluids from two other neighboring glands, and secretes this out.


At this point I need to again correct a common mistake a lot of people make today.

That liquid we all used to erroneously call Sperm is not sperm...it is called the SEMEN.

Pls know that SEMEN is the correct name for this sticky slimy liquid we all erroneously call SPERM.� is called

This SEMEN is that liquid medium that the male sperm cells swim in.

The important part of this SEMEN is a liquid, called the Prostate Fluid or Prostatic Fluid as some call it, which is produced by your Prostate

The SPERM are those tadpole-like organisms that swim in the semen.

The semen is what your sperm cells need to move freely and quickly into a woman's vaginal canal till it gets to fertilize an egg. Without this Prostatic Fluid, your sperm cells will be almost completely immobile...they won't be able to swim.

They will gum together, in their hundreds of thousands!!

This makes this our Prostate gland soooooooo very very very important for Men's fertility!!

Just like the kitchen blenders that our wives use in the kitchen,  the Prostate  gland mixes it's own fluids with fluids it collects from two other smaller glands that are positioned  near it.

  It is a collection of so many glands each producing its own fluid and draining them together through ducts. 

Then it collects more fluids from two other glands and from the seminal duct bring sperm from the testes and then starts to blend all these three fluids together.

Wow!You can imagine the work your Prostate has to do.

As if this is not enough work, the prostate is also responsible to push all these fluid out WITH MUCH FORCE (pressure) that it shoots deep into the vagina of a woman,!!!

The Prostate Being the GATEKEEPER FOR URINE AND SEMEN FLOWS (premature ejaculation, male infertility)
The malfunctioning of this 'job' of the Prostate is the root cause of some of the first initial symptoms of prostate disorders.

Just to refresh your memory, I like to remind u that your prostate has two muscles that act as valves, regulating the flow of the two liquids Actually I call them valves for u to be able to relate to it better.

Just imagine your Bathroom or kitchen tap. Its connected through a pipe to your overhead water tank, isn't it?

Both the tank and the pipe has water, but your house isn't flooded because there is a VALVE inside that tap that stops the flow!!!(Urine and Semen) designed to pass through the same tube (the urethra).
That's exactly the same way the prostate is constructed by the best Plumber...God Almighty!
We shared earlier that your urethra (that tube that drains urine from the bottom of your bladder) has a dual purpose...drains urine and drains semen. 

Your Prostate has two 'Shut Off Valves' to control and regulate the flow of these two fluids...ensuring that the RIGHT FLUID flows at the RIGHT TIME!

Without these 2 valves, semen and urine may go the wrong direction and even mix together as it unfortunately happens to some men!!

There is a dirty joke among Medical Doctors that goes like this.....No matter how much you hate that woman and you want to do bad to her, you cannot urinate inside her while you are having sex with her. 


The valves would have shutoff the flow of urine when you are 'doing the thing' with that woman. So piss no go commot

The first valve - the Internal Upper Sphincter is positioned near the bladder where the prostate n urethra connects

This valve is not subject to our control. That is, its operated involuntarily.

As your kidneys continuously pour liquid waste into the bladder, this valve holds back urine for us.

Thank God for this or else we men would had all wet our trousers immediately urine enters our bladders. But thankfully, this 'Valve' holds it safely inside our bladder without us even having to think about it

This valve functions just like the valve inside your bathroom or kitchen tap...there is water in your water tank but it won't come out because there is a valve inside your kitchen or bathroom tap that prevents it from coming out on its own. This makes it helpful in preventing flooding of your house!

Just like the valve inside your bathroom or kitchen tap prevent flooding this 1st valve prevent urine from leaking out on its own

Unfortunately for some men, the cells of the muscles of this Valve have been corrupted and rendered the muscles weak and as such it doesn't close well, causing involuntary and uncontrollable urine leaks

Now to the second valve...

While we don't have control of the first valve,  we can voluntarily control this second valve which is below and its called the External Lower Sphincter

This 2nd valve helps men to voluntarily control the flow of urine through their urethra and out from the tip of the penis

As a result, men can choose to delay urination until THEY DECIDE the time its convenient to let it go.

While malfunction of the 1st Valve causes URINARY INCONTINENCE (inability to control involuntary urine leaks), this 2nd valve causes DRIBBLING after urination.  

Dribbling is when urine is still coming out in droplets, even after we have finished urinating.�

That is why older men have to 'ring the bell' after they finish urinating.  (That is, that our habit where we keep shaking our penis to drain out the last droplets�)


When a man has enough control of this 2nd valve, he can voluntarily delay the release of semen (ejaculation) during sex. 
Its weakness causes embarrassing premature ejaculation!!!!


Malfunction of either or both values leads to urine leaks and uncontrollable urine flows make such men start wearing ADULT DIAPERS

How can a man who is no longer active have sex not to talk of regular sex Anyways that is the reason I have this thread running, to help men who are not sexually active become very active without any side effect by looking at the major possible cause; Heart Health Problem like High Blood Pressure and the other possible causes which might be Prostate Enlargement issues, Low Testosterone level, Andropause in men, poor blood circulation to the penis...

Is it Diabetes Or Prostate Enlargement?

What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body’s blood sugar is too high.

Blood sugar is controlled by a hormone called insulin, which is made in the pancreas.

In some cases, the body mistakes insulin-making cells for foreign invaders and destroys them.

This reduces or stops your ability to make insulin and is called type 1 diabetes.

So, What is prostate gland enlargement

Is a common prostate condition in older men that causes problems such as a weak urine stream or feeling like you have to pee after you just finished peeing.

The topic of discussion today would be looking at the similarities between Diabetes and enlarged Prostate gland symptoms.

* Impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED)
* Shrinkage of the Penis
* Low or lost of libido
* Getting up frequently at night to urinate.
* A urinary stream that starts and stops.
* Straining to urinate.

Looking at the outlined symptoms of both Diabetes and an enlarged Prostate gland, you will see some similarities when it comes to Bathroom and Bedroom challenges.

Conclusions: Aging, obesity, high glucose level, and insulin resistance increase the risk of BPH progression in elderly patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Managing body weight and lowering the level of glycosylated haemoglobin may slow the progression of BPH in people with type 2 diabetes.
