Oga stop that exaggeration. shocked Which Nyanya would take you 54 minutes to Abuja Airport? At what time of the day? From Nyanya to Abuja city centre between the hours of 7 a.m and 10.30a.m, would take you nothing less than 2 hours. If you have to go from Nyanya to the Abuja Airport, you would also have to leave early, or select a time when the roads would be less congested, in order to get to the airport on time, just like anyone going from Lekki to Lagos airport, would do! sad

If you are staying in Lagos in a place as far from the Lagos Airport as Nyanya is from Abuja Airport, how long will it take you in the traffic between 7am and 10.30? Which includes the rush hour?

It still stands Abuja is sane option, Lagos is not.

Many people are sat motionless in Lagos traffic for close to or over an hour every day and have to add that to their journey time. They also stay behind at work because they don't want to be stuck in traffic going home. Not because of distance but because of traffic.

It's common knowledge both inside and outside Lagos.

In Lagos, there is the capacity to lift up this mighty car. Wow! Unparalleled efficiency.

Yet, dead bodies are STILL left laying on the road over the weekends.

People who encounter traffic everyday in Lagos, do so as a result of the distances they have to cover between their homes and offices, or the distance that exist between their offices and clients. sad Many folks live on the mainland and the outskirts, from where they commute to work daily, on the Island. A similar thing also occurs in Abuja. undecided Are you saying people who live on the outskirts of Abuja, or in the suburbs & satellite towns do not encounter traffic daily, on their way to the city centre? Your perspective is really narrow, because you are only viewing Abuja through a single lens - the lens of someone who lives and works within the same axis, inside Abuja.

You are entitled to your preference, but please stop comparing apples with cocoyams in the way you are comparing Abuja with Lagos. It is like comparing New York to Washington. It only makes you look clueless. sad

Even if you live outside the city gates in Abuja it's not that long to get into town. For most of it you are driving on a highway that has many lanes once get past the city gates there are overpasses to specific areas too, so not everyone is using the same route.. Even if you are going from Sabon Lugbe ( outside the city gate) to CBD ( heart of the city) it's not that much of a long journey. The road network ensures free movement of traffic for most of the journey. Planning and foresight of Abuja has resulted in that being possible, although some areas still need work and some expressways that have been started still need completing. You don't always have to live and work in a close area in Abuja, that's my point.

Let's not deny that in Lagos people are delayed because they are stuck in traffic. Lagos is notorious for its traffic jams. I don't think that's news to anyone.

Your post makes it so clear that you have not had to commute to Abuja city centre on a daily basis, while living permanently on the outskirts of Abuja or in the satellite towns of the FCT. sad Saying it is not much of a long journey is a very vague statement. Is it the distance in kilometers or the journey time in minutes/hours?

Yes, Abuja has been planned! shocked We all said that from the very beginning of this thread - in fact, more than 5 people mentioned it - which is why it is totally wrong to keep comparing it to Lagos which was not planned, except for very few areas in the state! I repeat: comparing Abuja to Lagos, is like comparing apples to cocoyams. undecided

Yes and the result of that planning and foresight is the relative ease of navigation of Abuja, the planned parks and recreation which were part of that planning. It has resulted in a city that is much less stressful as a result. That is exactly what myself, others and the author of the article have been saying.

It's the truth.

Comparing Lagos to Abuja is fine actually and this thread is 14 pages worth of people trying to claim Lagos is better, so you may want to advise them to 'stop comparing apples with cocoyam'.

No, that is not what you, others and the author of this article have been saying. sad What you lot have been doing, is to engage in a dick-measuring contest over Lagos and Abuja, by trying to condemn Lagos and all it stands for, using derogatory descriptions and epithets.

Every single person knows that Abuja was planned right from scratch, even before a single brick was laid on the other, while building the city centre. sad During the construction of major parts of the city, a number of people paid the price of living in cramped, inconvenient, poorly erected quarters with sub-standard infrastructure, before the whole city actually became habitable. undecided With several roads under construction, and access to major areas a difficult task, Abuja was often quite difficult to navigate. Every Friday, several public officials fled the town to more habitable places in other states, only to return on Sundays or Monday mornings, to resume duty. At that time, Abuja was described in very uncomplimentary ways, and many civil servants posted there in the beginning, had tales of woe to tell. Now that things have stabilised, a lot of ill-informed folk have come out to gloat, and have even embarked on the fruitless exercise of comparing Abuja to Lagos, in a fit of relentless spite and silliness.

That this thread has spanned 14 pages, is also due to clowns who are trying their best to show that Abuja is 'superior' to, or 'better' than Lagos, out of some misguided show of one upmanship, in a bid to denigrate a commercial city like Lagos, that has served its citizens, residents and country well, in more ways than one. sad Choices that people make, depend on their preferences. So yes, my advice to you and your ilk still stands: "stop comparing Abuja to Lagos. It is like comparing apples with cocoyam." shocked A wise man would follow that advice. undecided But then, how many folks can recognise wisdom?

That's the data I have. Have you been to the two cities? Is Lagos really livable than Abuja?

OK. The full list is available online and it's a survey on expatriates' view on cities livability. Abuja is 213 out of 231.

Yes, I've been to the two cities. Abuja has good road networks and infrastructure but it's still not up to Lagos. In Lagos you have RRS with free toll numbers that work, emergency response is also good, you have various beaches where people can relax and unwind, boat rides for pleasure, more fun. Most expatriates live close to where they work and this is key to avoid traffic. Their community is bigger because lagos is a coastal city, more malls, cheaper goods, access to West African countries via road so you can easily drive down to Benin republic on Friday and return on Sunday just for relaxation etc.

Abuja roads are far better than Lagos.

Sanitation wise is no contest. Lagos is one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

Abuja have better electricity than Lagos

Water supply is better than Lagos

Traffic is less than Lagos

Absence of thugs in Abuja makes it safer than Lagos.

Too many pros for Abuja. That's my opinion.
For the ordinary average person, Abuja is and should be more livable than Lagos.

Lagos roads are mostly fair and more work is being done.To avoid traffic live close to your residence, coastal cities are always highly populated. Light supply is good in most places. Abuja is closer to the North where Boko Haram operates which makes it more risky, no statistics has yet been taken to compare the level of water supply in both states so I can't judge that. There are thugs in both cities. The global list you posted, placed Lagos ahead of Abuja, they have done their fact findings, why not look into it, instead of being sentimental? Find out why a reputable report like mercers will place Lagos above Abuja in terms of liveability
