Do we all though?

I think a lot has to change, starting from

1) The educational system. Although, cramming can't be avoided, it seems to be what is most encouraged in Nigerian schools and universities, starting with Profs, who expect you to spit out the exact things said. There's a difference between knowing
--> all about RNA or DNA
--> being encouraged to think further based on what you already know about RNA/DNA

Therefore, analytical, critical and system thinking should be encouraged. This will go a long way in encouraging people to question things around them, be it politics, science, tradition, mentality etc. instead of accepting things just for the way they are.

2) Afrocentric instead of Eurocentric. Our contributions to this world have been downplayed or discredited as result of colonialism. The mindset of 'I can do this' instead of 'Let's wait for them to do this' can only be established, if
--> history starts getting taught from our perspective
--> doesn't start with when the British came
--> we truly start seeing ourselves as equals

It's not going to be easy doing this, as four to five hundred years of solid European domination of intellectual concepts and philosophical ideas surely must have affected the mind in some way or the other.

3) I'm hoping as a result of number 1, the news/blogs or whatever you want to call them can be questioned. Propaganda news has become a real thing, especially during this internet era. Propaganda news in Nigeria, I've noticed supports the already existing stereotypes about certain tribes. The Fulanis, for example are the recent scapegoat of the media. It's usually easy to talk about and for people, if these aren't given the chance for their voices to be heard. Propaganda news in Nigeria is such a dangerous tool, as it
--> digresses from the real issues and problems
--> fuels ethnic /tribal conflicts

4) The Nigerian media is controlled by the government. Nigeria's rank according to world press freedom index is nothing to write home about. Ideas, oppositions etc. are being censored. Also, Nigeria id ranked as one of the most corrupt countries according to the Transparency International's Corruption Index

5) If 3 can't be solved and tribal conflicts still persists, (mostly due to 4), it's probably best for Nigeria to split. This brings by a lot of problems, however it's only possible for a unified country to progress. If not, things like:
--> the act of voting people in due to their tribes and religion is going to persist

6) It's only a unified mass that can trigger a revolution strong enough to tackle 4. And it's only a mass that doesn't accept things for the way they are (1) willing to fight for a change. A mass, not waiting for someone to save them, but are willing to save themselves (3).
