Doctors At ISTH Irrua Respond To Mass Casualty Involving UBTH JOHESU by nobilis: 4:36pm On May 19, 2018 |
This morning, news reached us at the accident and emergency service department of the irrua specialist teaching hospital, Edo State, of a mass casualty of accident victims along the ever-busy Benin-Auchi road. Sources gathered that 19 out of the 20 victims were members of the UBTH chapter of JOHESU, the arm of health workers who are currently on strike and have placed most government hospital facilities under lock-and-key. They were said to be on their way to a social function at Auchi. Thankfully, this is not the story at ISTH, IRRUA EDO STATE, as the hospital management along with the doctors who have been at their duty post for the past one month duration of the strike, have kept the hospital running at optimal levels. The Presidents of the association of resident doctors, the NMA Edo Central zone, medical and dental consultant association, ISTH chapter, alongside the hospital management have all called out their members to assist at the emergency room. The Doctors as usual, have all swung into action to cater for the casualties while trying to access the locked theatre for those who would need surgery. More than half of the casualties have varying degrees of fractures and dislocation. While a few of the dislocations have been reduced under conscious sedation methods, others may need the orthopaedic, plastic surgeons attention in the theatre under control by the anesthetic surgeons. We pray for the victims to have good outcomes and return back to their respective families. We thank all doctors for coming out, even those that are not on call-duty. Indeed, this underscores the statement that "BEING A DOCTOR IS NOT JUST A TITLE, IT IS A MENTALITY" This story is an exclusive from the secretariat of the association of resident doctors, ISTH chapter.

Imagine. JOHESU is on strike because they want to be like the doctors, yet it is the doctors that are treating them of their wounds and injuries. The circle of life. 1 Like |

nibilis @ op, pls modify the topic and add JOHESU menbers, we will always answer the call of duty, a life is a life, JOHESU or not, similarly a nurse came to a teaching hospital in lagos with intussuception and needed surgery, she was about to be rejected saying becos of the strike, but once we heard dhe was a colleague, some strings were pulled and the theatre was opened by the nurses just do they could operate her. JOHESU should think about the ripple effect the strike would have coming to bite them back as in this example. To the publuc, doctors are not evil, they do not have any issue with JOHESU. They just want to achieve relativity in the health sector. #doctorsareworking |

Amarabae: It's already on Channels news. Bitterness will also make u deny ur members. I saw a doctor's suturing the wound of one of the members. I looked and the doctor and remembered Jesus Christ, who despite being scorned loved us and gave his life for us. 4 Likes |

funmisticqueen: For once u are right Funmi. Johesu wants to distort the narrative. Doctors spend most of their years through tear, pain and discomfort working so we could have a healthier society, and Johesu members think they can bully their way to earn the same prestige. |

So much for doctor-patient confidentiality. Get off your high horse people, there is no hatred towards doctor. Isn't this your job, do you really think you deserve some accolades for doing your job, that you are actually paid for? All I have seen in the health sector are egomaniac and egocentric people aided by our no good government. Hey, I am not blaming JOHESU for fighting for equity and neither am I blaming doctors for adamantly wanting to remain king of the jungle without regards to other people in the sector. If only we could all get along and keep the patient in mind. So please doctors let us mock those in pain and give yourselves a pat on the back for doing your job. So much for the Hippocratic oath 2 Likes |

Hmm, everything in this country is not healthy except corruption. Every where in the world there is relativity between the salary of doctors and every other health workers, it cuts across basic salary to the allowances. The government should just call both parties and work out a formula that will suit both parties . I'm a doctor and sincerely will feel so cheated if there is no differential rewards to at least appreciate my input.( ask any resident in Neuro surgery , he or she will tell u how crazy the world could be, my wife once regretted marrying a doctor before she adjusted). Our nurses work less than 3wks in a month put all the hours put together .This also applies to other aspects where they run shifts . U can ask any resident doctor how much of his or her time , he or she puts into patients well being, in searching for knowledge and otherwise. Every aspect of health sector is respected by doctors , That is while when we are on ward round we inform the nurses on the ward to join, when patient are booked for surgery , perioperative nurses are informed. Pharmacist has no right to alter my prescription but can point out to me if there is any mistake which most of the time we discuss it clinically for the benefits of the patients . The truth is that for any team there is a leader and by the virtue of the central roles played by the doctors it make him or her fit better for this position . All patients come to the hospital will pass through doctors except they come for non medical issues or it will not be documented formally. Not all px require medications, physiotherapeutic , nursing ..... Services . I just hope will let sanity play it role and let health sector work in Nigeria. Everyone in the health sector is important even the guards and cleaners some of whom are graduate , ( even MSC holders ). Please let us all play our roles to propel the health sector forward and stop all these unnecessary fighting Government should privatise the health sector and let water find it level. 2 Likes |

Facebook Post by a JOHESu leader ISTH... There was an accident of a group transiting to Auchi from Benin. They were rushed to our A/E at Irrua. There were no deaths, but minor bruises and cuts. But some have mandibular distortions and other degrees of fractures that may need some days in hospital and scans to be done. But they are all stable. We swung into action trying to call some of our nurses, and store officers and union members to go help out, we didn't really ask who they were initially, and we didn't want to argue while accident victims suffer. They are all there now helping with the treatment of the injured as it was very clear that the Doctors were helpless at a point. I have called the HOD of general stores to help with treatment items. The HOD of Pharmacy has been on ground helping with pharmaceuticals, the Nurses have arrived as their chairperson mandated and we have the situation under great control. After putting the anxiety to rest, we decided to really find out who the victims were and found out they are cleaners in UBTH not JOHESU members as being erroneously circulated in social media against the striking unions. A call to SSA chair, UBTH confirmed they are cleaners in UBTH & all outsourced staff and belong to no union in UBTH. Well, we are happy to relax our strike a bit for the injured and we are happy to prove that treatments are difficult without JOHESU members. We are also happy to prove that we have a largely humanitarian mindset. That's the summary of what happened. ...........JOHESU ISTH 2 Likes |

Ochek: Shame on the so called johesu leader Playing politics with peoples lives. For the record no johesu member was there in A&E today to assist in treatment of their members, all interventions were carried out by doctors who declared mass casualty and informed all doctors to come to A&E whether you are on duty or not. How can a grown up man and so called leader tell lies about what is obvious. Despite the accident involving johesu members they still locked up everywhere, drug stores, instrument stores and went away with the keys. Doctors had to break the lock to gain entrance to the already depleted drug stores to treat johesu members however they couldnt gain entrance to the instrument store so they had to suture with their hands, the pictures are everywhere For your info a doctor had needle prick injury today while suturing johesu members wound with bare hands. For your Info NTA, ITV Channels TV were at the hospital and they recorded everything. It is very unfortunate johesu will display this wicked propaganda against their members by denying them all because of politics. What a show of wickedness and ingratitude by johesu 3 Likes 1 Share |

If I am those involved in the mass casualty I will sue Irrua specialist hospital for lack of privacy. JOHESU or not. Are the doctors on strike too? Is it not their jobs that they are doing? I respect the patients that haul themselves to the hospital for treatment for respecting their professional boundaries. Are you telling me that when ARDS are on strike that none of their members has never been admitted in the hospital to be care for? Each of this body has been dishing out propaganda but JOHESU has never been this low on propaganda. This is the lowest of it all. Like nursery pupil debating on who is more important than the other, that is OK but for an adult with supposedly world acclaimed IQ and jamb score of 1000. Ewww This is too petty ARDS, JOHESU, NMA. Too cheap for people who should've known better. Honestly I feel embarrassed for both parties. This is highly unnecessary and unprofessional . No wonder every body including the patients are leaving in droves. Wouldn't want to be treated by you lots. Enough bad blood for a millennium. Reddit.com/r/medicine and Quora won't even glorify this ish... FYi, With how poisonous the hospital is now I doubt any JOHESU member talk more of their excos will like to be snapped and pasted all over the media for cheap propaganda in this dire times. |

*VERY IMPORTANT* # Fowardedasrecieved . # COPIED # Our attention has been drawn to news making the round that UBTH JOHESU EXCO members were involved in a road traffic accident today 19.05.2018 on their way to Auchi in Edo state. While there was indeed a road traffic accident: ** the victims are neither UBTH JOHESU EXCO NOR MEMBERS** We understand the desperation of the sponsors of this false news to always seek ways to score cheap points but we are saddened by the fact that they could descend so low as seeing the pain and anguish of the accident victims as something to be celebrated to the extent of uploading the pictures of this NIGERIANS IN PAIN to the whole world. I want to state here again that this news is not correct as no UBTH JOHESU MEMBERS were involved in any kind of accident today and we shall by the GRACE OF GOD NOT BE INVOLVED IN ANY. We want to advise ARD/NMA members to always check their facts and avoid rushing into conclusions so as not to continue spreading falsehoods to the general public. They could have asked questions and get correct answers before painting the social media red with this lies. I advice the NMA to avoid wishing JOHESU MEMBERS evil as evidenced by the way they celebrated this falsehood on the social media. WE WISH THE VICTIMS OF THIS R.T.A A VERY QUICK RECOVERY. WE ALSO APPEAL TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO PREVAIL ON THE MINISTERS OF HEALTH AND LABOUR TO QUICKLY PUT AN END TO THIS STRIKE BY DOING THE NEEDFUL. GOD WILL CONTINUE TO PROTECT JOHESU MEMBERS. OUR DEMANDS ARE LEGITIMATE. GOD BLESS JOHESU. OSIGBEME AUGUSTINE Chairman, NANNM UBTH |
