I bet he's never watched football matches there or anywhere around hence the uproar or surprise at the unusual - the least likely- spectator.

I guess deep inside the close-ended maze his mind has become- inside that spiralling web- a tiny part still remembers he's Nigerian and where his loyalty lies...even though it's too fragile to process it all.

Somehow in his supposedly 'wacko' state of mind, maybe he's still proudly Nigerian and patriotic - something most of us aren't.

Maybe with a little help he can be saved from the ever-screaming voices in his head. Somehow, maybe, he can be redeemed.


...But the rest of us can't be. We are lost in the suctioning abyss, getting drawn into the bottomless pit of ultra-tribalism, seething hate at any seeming opposition, me-over-everybody...

Maybe he can be saved. That's a probability which connotes possibility.

...The rest of us? We can't be saved. We are too far-gone. We are lost...and we don't even know it.

Maybe that's the point. Maybe nested deep in the shrubbery of those flowery words is a subtle beseeching of the rest of us 'people' to right the wrong we've done to society 'cause, while Mr. 'Wacko' faults are no longer his (he's lost to the voices in his head),we can recognize ours (tribalism, hate, selfishness) and change our fate.

But it's alright to deny the implications -the sentimentality of it even more so. It's easier for us to look the other way, pretending we don't know what's wrong. It's easier for me too.
