Class And Decency: The Royal Wedding. by Mariinee(f): 11:49am On May 27, 2018
Ever since the world witnessed the joining together of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in solemn matrimony at the Royal wedding, I have been meaning to write a piece on the wedding. Anyone reading this right now would probably think this article is meant to discuss the fairytale love of Meghan and Harry, but; no, it’s not. The royal wedding was truly grand and perhaps, the world had never seen something like it. But, in watching clips of the wedding; what actually caught my eyes wasn’t the grandness of the wedding itself. What caught my eyes were the dresses of the bride and the female guests at the wedding. If an average person here in Nigeria is going to describe Meghan’s wedding dress, then the person would probably describe it as “simple and plain”. Left to me though, I would say the dress was exquisite; and so were the dresses of the female guests at the wedding.

However, this article isn’t about the exquisiteness of Meghan’s dress. Rather, it’s about the modesty and simplicity in her dress and the make-up. In all honesty, I was amazed when I saw pictures of the bride and how simple, yet sweet she looked. She didn't have to use so much make-up and her dress barely show any skin ot isn't supposed to show. And, this made me run to the search engine to find out why she would prefer to dress so simply on her wedding day! Guess what? I found an article that explained all the dos and don’ts of the royal family and it pretty much explained why she was dressed like that. Apparently, the royal family bans the use of fake nails, certain nail polishes, fake lashes, excessive make-up and specific type of dressing. Why? Because things like these are meant for classless people and the royal family is an embodiment of class. I was awed by this, seriously and this prompted me to write this article.

Almost every weekday and Saturdays especially, one or two stories and pictures of someone’s wedding or pre-wedding photo shoot hits Nairaland front page and one thing these posts always seem to be championing is Immorality and Indecency. Sometimes, it’s a man grabbing his woman’s butt; other times, the doggy pose is used by the couples in their shoot. Even at the weddings, it always looks like the female guests and the bride are competing for a display on “Who can bare the most body parts?” Boobs popping out like they need attention badly and make-up looking like the person is saving paints to use for her future house on her face. Don’t even get me started on the lashes! Some people’s lashes make them look like they were supposed to be created as Jinns but God changed his mind. And the nails, I don’t even know what to describe the nails with! But, why do people do this? Because, they are “civilized and modern”

Nigerians nowadays and maybe Africans think civilization and modernization is all about going nude in the name of fashion, having their trousers below their butts in the name of swagger, painting the hair all sorts of color in the name of trendy (BBNaija’s Alex comes to mind) or even baking their faces up with tons of foundation, powder and whatever else they paint on their faces in the name of make-up. And, this is because the American rappers and models they see on TV are their role models. But, what you do not know is that these rappers and models are the dregs and gutter-rats of the state. If you have watched the series “Empire”, you would understand better how they view these sorts of people even in the States. But no, all Nigerians want to do is watch movies, get some silly fashion tips and be entertained. They always fail to see the point or lesson of the plot.

One thing you should know and keep in mind is that; swag can be class. You don’t have to be dressed like a dreg to show your “swagga” and, you don’t have to pop out all those God-given assets in the name of fashion. You don’t have to hide your face behind a bucket of make-up before you look beautiful and, you don’t have to carry ridiculous hairstyles because one model in America carried it. You can be classy without being immoral. Dressing immorally and indecently only makes you a gutter-rat like the people you see as role models.

Be classy and decent because, our culture is classy and decent. Be a royal, don’t be a gutter-rat.

THE only problem i have with african brides is why their face, neck and shoulders always have 3 different colours on their wedding day undecided

not forgetting the multiple colours on the face........... ......the major colours are usually
blue (for eyelid......1st layer), green (for eye lid,......the 2nd layer), brown (for face), red (for lip), black (for eyebrow), [colop=yelow]r yellow (for cheeks and sometimes for eyelid..... 3rd layer)[/color], violet (for teeth) etc

Most African women rather look like a painted Ho than maintaining their natural beauty. Imagine spending hours applying paint on your face only to look entirely different from whoI proposed to in the first place.

Provided you don't pay anyone's bill, you don't have the right to tell them what or what not to wear. Live, and let's live. Class in this context is relative.

You act like a Romanian while in Rome so what were you guys expecting? The same Meghan that was decently dressed on her wedding day was the same lady Mike was constantly banging on Suits. That's if you were a Suit fan.

Royalty comes with lots of dos and don'ts. That was what I saw.

You Nigerians don't fail to disappoint, always allowing backwardness and primitiveness push their emotions to make big deal out of nothing.

She simply dressed, so? How's that morality? Is she not a divorcée? Did she get married as a Virgin?

So make-up now equate class? What manner of inferiority complex is this, bikonu?

We've being seeing some ladies without make on their wedding day, how much did you care to praise them.

Quit this hype, please.

I think the question should be. Had it being she wore makeup for that wedding, would you have created this thread to heap praises?

Well there’s one thing that bothers me.

A lot of women tend to victimised themselves, it’s not right. That whole Twitter trending with the boobs and ass on display. Each to their own, promote your goods if you have to, if that’s the validation you must seek. But don’t cry a river of tears claiming men objectify you, andthey’re no good men around you. You are a representation of yourself, you are addressed how you are dressed. You can’t live the best of both words, it’s life and you have to conform to it. The royals are treated like royals mainly because of the way the present themselves. Do you think if they walked around half naked, they would be treated with such high esteem?

Classy wins to me. You can be sexy without being trashy. Just my opinion.

Screw Royal wedding

The whole thing is well rehearsed like a movie with scripts and everything to create an image of perfection.

I am only against those ladies that paint their faces with a bucket load of paint to look beautiful but only end up looking like a clown or badly photoshoped picture of obasanjo

Nonetheless, I will grab the arse of my wife as long as she is fine with it

Must we copy white people? None of them is copying our lifestyle and everything we do is an imitation of thier lifestyle, before they came, african women don't wear clothes just saying, they're responsible for all the madness in this world today

Dont mind these crazies. The husband of a well 'painted' bride is not complaining. I dont lnow what they are complaining about. When you marry yours dictate to her how you like her to look. Dont drink pnadol for another mans headache.

As for me my highlighter would blind my enemies on my wedding day.

Laughs....But it goes without doubt that we blacks love copying the whites and their ways but end up looking awkward and stupid,, we copy 2*2 and end up doing 10*10...Now that's a problem.

The post isn't even about Meghan herself. It's about how she is required to dress and act as a royal. Would you rather be Meghan of suits or Duchess Meghan?

I might regard you as one, but it doesn't make you one, it doesn't make you classless.

Let's take Nikki Minaj for instance.

She sure dresses like a LovePeddler, but it doesn't make her classless.

So village girls that dresses like mgbeke are classy?
