I'm speechless. There are lots they can't do without a doctor.

Doctors have a deeper and wholistic insight into what ails patients and thus are better placed to lead the team whose overall goal is to deliver wellness.

You are neither a nurse, pharmacist, lab scientist or a doctor, won't it be nice if you don't say much.. nobody in the hospital setting works more than a House officer.. the pay they get is nothing compared to their workload.

nigeria is indeed a shithole

so because the minister of health is a doctor,

minister of state a doctor

Even minister of labour is a doctor

all the cmd in federal and general hospitals are doctors

wher 're the nurses, med scientists, pharmacists, microbiologists, chemists, these 're all professionals. they attended universities
just like the doctors.

as it stands now. a house officer the lowest cadre of doctors earn 180k. I have seen the pay slip of a friend that works in irrua specialist teaching hospital.

I'm neither a doc or a pharmacist or a nurse
but the disparity and cheating is too much mhen.

I'm not sure a lot of people who commented here visited govt owned hospitals during the strike, if they did, they'd know how very important these other health workers are. The hospitals were virtually empty, no one 2 disburse cards 2 d doctors 4 treatment, dirts everywhere, patients especially pregnant women being turned back and we are all here deceiving ourselves. some even said "na shame catch them". Is it not the masses that are suffering? I dnt have any of them as a friend or relative neithr do i hav anythn against doctors but the truth must be told, increase their pay even if they aren't going 2 get as much as doctors. How many doctors do we even hav in a single hospital compared 2 d other health workers? Na doctors knw wetin dia eyes see in the past weeks o but dey no go talk am. We deceive ourselves too much in this country n it's never taking us anywhere. na we go suffer am pass abi Buhari and those in govt dey go Nigerian hospitals?

Their demands are ridiculous. If you want to earn like doctors, go to medical school and be a doctor. In fact, their jobs may become non existence in the future. Their jobs can be conducted effectively by Robots/Artificial intelligence.

You can imagine a health worker who went to school to study pharmacy. Rather than look for industries to make drugs, he/she dispenses drugs in a hospital and now wants to earn like a doctor. Na wa oh. Robots can dispense drugs!
even doctors work can be conducted effectively by a robots.
Imagine a physician using edta container for electrolyte sample.

You cannot place a Microbiologist, Nurse or the rest on par with a Medical Doctor. Do you know what it takes to obtain an MBBS (and this is coming from an engineer)? If they what parity, let them first graduate with an MBBS, else hunger will kill them with their useless strike.

Nurses have seen shumtin.
I think it's time we leave JOHESU and stand on our own.
And if we leave johesu, that will be the death of that union.
Johesu leaders met with Saraki and collected bribe and betrayed the union.
You called off a strike without a public signed agreement,
They gave you bribe and made an empty promises to you and immediately you call off a strike.
Shame!
It's time for the Nursing profession to leave JOHESU!
We can't afford to be used as foot soldiers all the time despite our contributions to the health sector.
The health minister threatened sack, so what?
Who really depends on salary?
I own a private school and a pharmacy.
So I saw his threats as a joke.
Johesu leaders messed up by collecting bribe.

Medicine and Surgery didn't start in Nigeria, let alone at Yaba Tech.

You have been brainwashed by the AMLSN for long.

The Yaba Medical school was a PRE-CLINICAL school and those who graduated from it had to travel to UK to to complete their training in the teaching hospitals with Medical College, University of London or Dublin.

Sometimes because of paucity of funds ,some of these graduates worked in hospitals in Nigeria as Assistant medical officers (NOT DOCTORS) for 1-2years under the supportive supervision of British medical doctors and saved enough money to travel to UK to complete their medical degrees and become Medical officers (MO)

Exactly what I wanted to hear (that's all)
And the other programmes she called, did any start in Nigeria?
I only picked a point where she said others are glorified technicians (diploma courses).
At least you have acknowledged some graduated from yaba medical school which didn't give them MBBS but a diploma which they used in going to the UK for more intensive training (not until UI started the first MBBS programme).
Well she's entitled to her opinion and by the way I'm way too educated to be brainwashed by anybody. Should I need fact as reference, i know how to sort for one.

The foundation of JOHESU is faulty at it's core. Every member has this mindset that "WE ARE UNITED AGAINST DOCTORS". Doctors are supposed to be seen as their benefactors, but they see them as oppressors. The association gives their members FALSE HOPES that they can achieve the status of a doctor through confrontation with doctors instead of through academic means (Studying Medicine). They have also brainwashed their members to think that you are nobody in the health sector if you are not a doctor (This is FALSE) . If you distinguish yourself as a nurse or pharmacists, you'll get the respect you deserve, even more than some doctors. I have many examples of highly respected nurses and pharmacists in the country that you'll never see in the gathering of JOHESU. These are nurses and pharmacists who have made names for themselves and even professors of medicine accord them their respect.

Lastly I'll like to advise the nurses and pharmacists. You are being used by these other guys. Medicine and dentistry, pharmacy and nursing are the 3 core clinical speciality. These other guys are upgraded technicians (they used to be diploma courses). They are using you guys to achieve their aims while you get little or nothing.

Also, for the gatemen, office clerks, record keepers who still think and hope that one day one day JOHESU will take them to the level of a medical doctor through strike actions and confrontations and insulting doctors on facebook; I say a big congratulations in advance to you.
I couldn't have agreed more.. Pharmacists and nurses should distinguish themselves from the group and work in their professional bodies.. I was really disappointed in them honestly.. didn't expect them to stoop so low to joining such a union..
Physiotherapy and Med lab used to be diploma courses. In most places outside Nigeria, they are 4 year courses. Here, they've extended the course duration to 5 years and are looking to extend it to 6years just so that they can be described as 'Doctors'
I can less about the word, "Doctor".. I'm more interested in what you can DO not your title..
It's the Nigerian mentality - everybody wants a title.

Thank you.. kiss I remember my paed surgery rotation. I practically worked round the clock.. I was only given a few hours to have meals and freshen up in the mornings. I lived in my call room, no jokes.. lost 2kg in one week.. Didn't think I was going to survive it but I did.

And someone that runs 8 hourly shifts with some days off wants to earn the same basic salary and call allowances as I do.

Long b4 now nurses n Drs find love in themselves but Johesu has taken this love away.
I keep asking myself for how long will this last.
I never dreamed of having a union with hospital cleaner, generator operator at the backyard nor the accountant when I took nursing as choice number 1 in life. Many of us have lost our relationship to Johesu Nma tussle.

Please note that the Yaba and Kano medical schools DIDN'T award any diploma to anyone.
They only issued certificate of attendance with which the graduate can continue his studies in UK.

Please tell us five leading private hospitals established and headed by Pharmacists, Medical laboratory scientists/technicians, Nurses or the much touted hospital administrators.

I hope the Nigerian medical practitioners are learning from this brouhaha and start to gradually wean the profession off government domination.

Doctors should partner with other doctors and interested private investors to build more private hospitals which can be nurtured to be like Mayo clinics, Cleveland clinics, John Hopkins hospital all in the US or Apollo hospitals in India.
This will reverse the direction of medical tourism in Nigeria's favour.

Doctors have existed for thousands of years and almost through out this period, until very recently, they were self-employed.
Government employed doctors is a recent phenomenon and in Nigeria, this has significant impact on the medical profession.
In order to move to the next level, it is better that most doctors become self-employed and independent of government.
