A mother-of-two who tried to pull a surprise to her husband by going to have a surgery for breast enlargement got what she never bargained for.

The 30-year-old woman identified as Galina Rakushina from Lipetsk in western Russia was unfortunate to have given up the ghost after falling into a coma for more than a year.

Rakushina was given anaesthetic drugs during the operation but her heart stopped soon afterwards. Medics restarted her heart after three minutes but she couldn't make it as her brain had been without oxygen for too long.

The news of her death shattered the family who had kept on for the 13 months she was in coma hoping to have her back alive.

Authorities have launched a criminal case into the woman’s death who is the latest in the toll of death cases linked to plastic surgery in Moscow clinics.

As in other cases, investigators are probing the quality of anaesthetic drugs used ahead of the surgery amid concerns over the regulation of plastic surgery clinics in the capital.

A friend of the deceased woman said she wanted to surprise her husband by enlarging her breasts after having her children.

“She had secretly saved money for the operation,” the friend said.
