Saraki doesn't need to win the entire northern Nigeria.

He needs to collect 30% of northern votes and den win SE SS n SW.

Simple.

Saraki name is shrouded in so many controversies, court cases and his loyalty to party affiliation as been questioned so many times. It'll be unwise for the PDP to field him as their presidential candidate

Given my knowledge of political structures through the length of Nigeria only Kwankwaso and Lamido can give Buhari a good run and they'll both lose ultimately. Tumbawal can give it a try but I'm not sure he has the political structure outside his state to do that.

Saraki and Atiku are dead in the water, Saraki more so his political desperation makes him look bad, Atiku has the weight of corruption allegations (that have never been formalised) hanging on his shoulders . APC would win and win comfortably the way things are stacked.

PDP would sell destruct after their primaries because the gladiators are not people who believe in fair play they'll all pay delegates and cheat, I expect to see more defections

"" I'm not sure he has the political structure outside his state ""

He needs PDP political structure to win outside his state.

""PDP would sell destruct after their primaries because the gladiators are not people who believe in fair play they'll all pay delegates and cheat, I expect to see more defections""

Stop foooooling ur self, No one from PDP is decamping to APC. Of kwakwanso Tambuwal or Saraki lose the primaries, They will go back to their governorship n senatorial positions.

PDP is back, Even Obasanjo is back to PDP. The party can only get stronger between now and Feb 2019. If u want to expect defections, Expect it from APC.

"" corruption allegations (that have never been formalised) hanging on his shoulders""

Where do u get these useless assertions from, Atiku will beat buhari in 2019 one they square up against each other. If buhari could win any election in Nigeria, Na Atiku wey no go win?

Atiku will win a good amount of votes in northern Nigeria but will receive massive block votes from SE n SS, Which is something Buhari will never get. Atiku will also get votes from SW, Possibly 50% and with This he will surely win.

People need to stop under estimating Saraki

He is the most qualified amongst all the front line politicians

He has been a executive Governor for 8 years and Senator for 8 years including 4 years of Senate Presidency

Saraki was educated in London where he studied medicine and also practiced medicine.

Saraki came back to Nigeria and got involved in business and has experience from different sectors. Like all things he failed in some and succeeded in some.

He has the best experience amongst all the candidates. Let PDP organise 2 or 3 debates lets weed out the chaff from the serious candidates.

Atiku is n experienced politician. He is a liberal Muslim who has a better understanding of the entity called Nigeria, unlike the FOOL currently occupying aso Rock. Atiku isn't an islamic extremist as he has friends, allies, partners, associates across board even internationally. He is an accomplished entrepreneur, business man and philanthropist. His view on religion is modest and he is most detribalized of all as he also has Igbo and Yoruba wives. The pick of the pack IMHO

Saraki to keep his seat as the Senate President. His leadership of the 8th Senate is outstanding. There's actually no need for him to seek for president since he already has the number 3seat. Although every politician aspires for higher office, but saraki should consolidate on the Senate leadership as he has shown understanding of how the legislature should work independent of the executive

Tambuwal to retain his seat as governor of sokoto state. He is still young, has more time to grow and boost his political image and networking. He shouldn't be in a hurry to be President as there are more experienced players on the turf

Kwankwaso can return to Senate, besides Kwankwaso is more like an extremist, islamic fundamentalist...he isn't far from from the animal called buhari as far as religious extremism and intolerance is concerned. He once destroyed over 10 trucks of alcohol as governor of Kano state. You abhor alcohol, yet you receive a huge chunk of the VAT generated from the consumption of the same alcohol. We don't want another islamic supremacist as president

AtikuChukwu all the way!!!!!

"" he is most detribalized of all as he also has Igbo and Yoruba wives.""

that's how u people told us that an Igbo man is married to buharis daughter

From the resoonse i've seen from the APC guys in this forum. I think PDP should give the ticket to Atiku, among all the candidates it is atiku they dread the most because they know he has the means and the funds to match buhari in an election, hence their fear disguised as ridicule especially on atiku. Once atiku clinches the ticket you'll see this guys shivering because they know buhari's days in aso rock is numbered already. Aside from that any other candidate will not hold a candle light to buhari. Whether you like it or not Atiku is a political heavy weight. I'm so sure if he clinches the ticket with a south west VP, he will clinch the presidential ticket

And have Atiku, Saraki and Tambuwal talked about that?

What did PDP do in the last 16 years to give us restructuring, true federalisim, etc? (And don't mention Jona's confrence that took secession off the table from the word go).?

And what is true federalisim.? Is it that the whole South South or South East and South South, or the whole South benefits from oil, while the North and Middle Belt can go and rely on agriuculture?

And why talk about true federalisim, when we still have corrupt people at all levels?

And by the way....which government, PDP or APC has talked about the real issue bothering Nigeria.....which is the fact that our economy is not producing stuff the world needs...and generating jobs as a result....yes what agenda does PDP or APC or any party have about that?

Your problem is the same as the sai barber people. You guys want an arrangement about sharing money. You don't want to develop Nigeria. You want to share money. Well....that is not how real life is...and the sooner we stop thinking that there is a national cake to be shared, the better.

We need a change in this country. And it starts by taking the hard decsion to become a manufactruing country, not a sharing and sharing country.
God bless you u have said it all they understand some of us thats why they use the word restructuring it only favour s the elite of each region (north, south, east, west) let all of them be accoutable let's ask questions for each money allocated to them from local govt up to the executive and legislatiors

Bro, i am not a fan of any political party..

Take for example, the ex governor of Akwa Ibom. He is known as a man who ruled such a rich state but achieved little. But now, he is planning to join APC. Once he gets there, APC supporters will rejoice and see him as a credible man..

U see, both APC and PDP, I dont care. They are all the same set of criminals with bias supporters.

So, next time, dont say 'your pdp', I dont play such game.

From the different writeups here, I can deduce APC supporters are afraid of Atiku candidacy and to some extent that of Saraki but majority dread Atiku cos he has the abilities(popularity and experience) and capabilities(funds/money) to stand against Buhari.

2019 will be Interesting...

Atiku for President

You have written well my brother, but if will go with this, Sai Baba will be a better option.
Sai baba might not be the best, but he wanted us to grow and plant rice and other agricultural products, Sai baba placed ban on some items that can be made here, trust Nigerians, they have placed curses on the man.

If we truly want Nigeria to be great, then we must support all these policies Sai baba brought.

With the little political experience I've gathered over the years. I think saraki and ekweremadu stand a better chance of battle it out with buhari. Both of them are still serving. Secondly with the help of Musa kwakwaso and probably atiku. They can help him to conquer the north. Anything other than that, buhari we still have his way.

As the competition for the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party gets stiffer in the run-up to the 2019 general elections, the party has said that it will rely on Nigerians to help the party choose its candidate for the presidential election.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, said the party had heard that many people, including a former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; his colleague in Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were interested in picking its presidential ticket.

As the competition for the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party gets stiffer in the run-up to the 2019 general elections, the party has said that it will rely on Nigerians to help the party choose its candidate for the presidential election.

He, however, said the decision to rely on Nigerians was premised on the party’s determination to avoid past mistakes, impunity and imposition of candidates.

According to Ologbondiyan, the party is not backing any of those in line to get its presidential ticket. Others interested in getting the party’s presidential tickets are a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau; former governors of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and Ibrahim Turaki; and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.

He said, “As a party, we have so many candidates already, but Nigerians will determine their next president.

“Nigerians are desirous of change; there is no argument about that. And it is more than obvious that the APC is bent on presenting President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term. The party does not have any other alternative. So, Nigerians desiring change can’t get it in the APC. They are looking at the PDP. We don’t want to disappoint them again.

“There are so many demands in the country now. Some people are agitating for restructuring, some want a leader with experience, not somebody that will get to power and wait for another six months before appointing ministers, some want young people. All of these factors will come to play in selecting our presidential candidate.

“Nigerians will signpost who they believe should lead them. We want to produce a credible candidate. Nigerians will sing the song of the one they want to lead them; the party doesn’t have any candidate yet.”

He added, “Currently, there are debates over the age of who should be our President, whether the President should be young or old. Therefore, there are so many aggregations of opinions, so what Nigerians say about the kind of candidate they want will inform our choice.

“We don’t want the party to be damaged again over allegations of imposition.”

Since President Muhammadu Buhari declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019, there have been discussions in political circles about who can successfully challenge him at the poll, especially in the opposition parties.

In a bid to challenge the ruling APC, the PDP and no fewer than 30 parties had recently formed a coalition in readiness for the next general elections.

Called the Coalition of United Political Parties, the collaborating parties and associations had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly present candidates for elective positions.

However, this has not stopped some members of the PDP from signifying interest in getting the main opposition party’s presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, sources in the PDP have told Saturday PUNCH that the recent defection of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso has altered political calculations among some members of the party.

It was learnt that with the two leading politicians’ interest in the presidential ticket of the party, the number of strong contenders for the party’s ticket from the North-West had increased to five.

The North-West, which arguably accounts for the highest number of votes per zone, is Buhari’s traditional political stronghold.

The zone is home to seven states, the highest number in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones structure.

A top ranking member of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said, “Before now, the former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido; his former Kaduna State counterpart, Ahmed Makarfi, and a former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), were the most visible contestants from the North-West.

“All three lay claim to their fidelity to the cause of the PDP throughout the years as strong selling points.”

This was earlier corroborated by Lamido in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, when he said, “If we (those who remained) had left the PDP like others, would there have been a PDP to return to?”

Until Tambuwal’s recent defection, the PDP had no sitting governor in the entire zone.

However, the arrival of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso in the picture has renewed PDP’s confidence of giving the APC and its candidate a good fight.

Authoritative sources within the PDP told one of our correspondents that Tambuwal had consulted widely on his presidential ambition before his decision to dump the APC, on which platform he was elected governor in 2015.

Some of the sources, who were privy to the workings within and outside the party, said Tambuwal was being considered as a possible candidate because of his age, educational background, cosmopolitan nature and experience.

It was gathered that the former Speaker’s experience in the legislature was also being considered as an added advantage as he was initially to challenge Buhari for the APC ticket in 2014, but had decided to contest the governorship of Sokoto State.

Kwankwaso’s supporters, on the other hand, argue that his popularity in his home state of Kano, which is reputed to have accounted for Buhari’s 1.9 million votes in 2015, and the support he enjoys in other states in the North is “as good as that of the President in the region.”

Kwankwaso, who was second only to Buhari during the 2014 APC presidential primary, is being considered as someone that could pose a threat to Buhari’s re-election bid.

The former Kano State governor has however left the decision about his political future in the hands of the party.

Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Binta Spikin, said, “I don’t know about that (presidential ambition) because now that he is in the PDP, it is for the party to decide whether it will hold a primary or adopt a candidate.

“I don’t know about that. Until the party speaks, I cannot say anything on that. I can only hope that the party sees the potential in Senator Kwankwaso and give him the ticket.”

Another source in the PDP, who also spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to be seen as taking sides, said, “The candidate that the PDP needs is someone who has the capacity to deflate the support base of President Buhari (especially) in the northern part of the country.

“It should be someone who is seen as representing the entire country and will not treat those who didn’t vote for him with less attention. Both men are believed to be popular in the northern part of the country.”

However, Director of Media and Publicity, Atiku Presidential Campaign, Mr. Segun Sowumi, expressed confidence that the party would see what his principal is to offer and give him the chance to be its presidential candidate.

He said, “Atiku has over the years been convinced that Nigeria can be great and he also believes that so much of the greatness that people believe Nigeria can be rests on the leadership and he has also had the opportunity of being inside and outside government and knows what needs to be done.”
One of Saraki’s loyalists in the Senate, who also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, explained that the Senate President was under pressure to join the presidential race.

The source said, “He is seriously under pressure by so many groups, friends in business, politicians – senators and governors, traditional rulers and others. But as you may know, he is somebody who listens more and will only smile than say what he will do.”
