The chinese have been replaced with the French. Lol if the French keep schedule they'll finish in 4 yrs what chinese couldn't in a decade. There's still the other lines to finish after blue. Who knows when those will be ready.

Dude, don't blame the Chinese if you don't know what the funding arrangement or terms of agreement was with the Lagos state government. The Chinese are no charity organisation so they are in Nigeria to make money

Sincerely, Lagos only seems "working" to the populace. If you really check, ask questions and do indept analysis you'll realise it's all SCAM.

You can imagine.... With all the funds injected since Tinubu through to Fashola and now Ambode and we are talking about phase 1 of just 3km being ready by 2022.

Then people will be talking about PDP looting for the last 16years.

And others will be crowing that Ambode is working just the same way they crowed during Tinubu's 8 years and Fashola's 2 terms.

O ma se o!

We really do need to take our leaders to account. If there was a credible opposition in the PDP, news such as this would've ensured their popularity would soar past APC with little effort! Instead, it is left to citizens to make comments on Nairaland and other forums, which in reality does little to change the current situation. A simple google search throws up the following:

1. In 2016, $200M was granted as world bank loan for this same project - https://www.businessdayonline.com/business-economy/article/200m-world-bank-loan-is-for-execution-of-lagos-light-rail-project-lai-mohammed/

2. This 'project' has been ongoing for 10 years! - https://guardian.ng/saturday-magazine/cover/a-decade-after-lagos-rail-project-still-crawling/

3. In 2014, $981M was borrowed from the world bank for the same project

4. The same blue line was supposed to be operation in 2016 - So 'project' is late by 2 years, even though we were told by the commissioner of transport it was 95% complete - https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/04/lagos-blue-line-rail-95-completed-says-commissioner/

These are staggering amounts that will have to be repaid guys. Usual method of payments is through bonds. If the government is having to repay bonds maturing every 2 years since 2017, they won't have the funds to put into the actual projects themselves. See this article credited to Fashola when he was still governor - https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/lagos-spent-n160-bn-world-bank-loan-fashola/

My takeaway is this (after only 20mins google search) -

1. Monies raised have not been fully utilised for the purpose they were intended. If they did, the investments would've been generating returns which can be used to offset the debt. The 'shifting to the right' of the operational start date suggests we are well behind in terms of how funding secured has been used, make no mistake about that.

2. Monies are being diverted from public spending to finance the repayment of international bonds which must be repaid when due, or Lagos will struggle to raise finance in the international market in the future.

Unfortunately, we have a system in place where transparency is not the key cornerstone of our democracy. if figures are laid bare for all to see most of us will be able to make informed decisions as to who we want running the state.

We need to demand more from our leaders my friends. We and our children will still be paying for this debt, well into the future. To paint an even bleaker picture, this thread is only about the light rail. Imagine for a moment, what is happening in other areas.

I leave you with that thought.

Will Tinubu allow it to start, this would eat into his monthly cut.

Sad Sad news

chances are the Lagos- Kano standard gauge would be complete and almost operational before Lagos gets any rail! one would think Lagos with all its sophisticated experts in finance and engineering would have be miles ahead by now

While highlighting the extent of works to be carried out by Alstom SA, Mr Dabiri said for ease of implementation, the work plan had been divided into two phases, with phase one aimed at demonstrating the non-public operation of the existing rolling stock before end of second quarter of 2019.
They will even spend crazy money for publicity stunt in 2019 just to show us how a train works smh- demonstration?

How i wish majority of the populace in Lagos think like you. Honestly the APC in Lagos is just an Organised Crime syndicate with Tinubu at the top as the mob boss. There has been monumental fraud going on in the state since 1999 and the problem is that nobody has the courage to challenge them. It is in this kind of situation i feel that Lagos lost their chance at good governance when Funso Williams was killed.
