Buhari To Return 2016 Budget To NASS Over Missing Projects / Independence Anniversary Expenditure For The Past 5 Years. - Nasir El-rufai / Breaking News! Jonathan Wooed To Become Biafra First President (2) (3) (4)
Breaking News: Jonathan Reduces Independence Anniversary Budget to N6.6bn by ladi02(m): 9:05am On Jul 10, 2010 |
FOR the second time within two weeks, President Goodluck Jonathan has sent an amendment proposal to the National Assembly on 2010 Appropriation Act. The first was on the revenue framework to be based on revising the assumptions for oil production of 2.2million barrels per day and oil price benchmark of US$60 per barrel. The first revision will imply aggregate revenue for the federal government budget of N2.392trillion and a deficit of about N1.829 trillion based on the proposed amended budget’s level of expenditure. However, the latest, which is the second request dated July 7, 2010 and addressed to the Senate President, Senator David Mark, was to seek adjustment to some sub-heads and a downward review or removal of some allocations to some of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The affected MDAs which have their allocations reviewed or completely withdrawn were Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Ministry of Aviation, the National Planning Commission and the National Assembly Office. But the amendment still proposed a total expenditure of N6.6 billion for the celebration of Nigeria at 50. The fresh proposal indicated that the Office of the SGF would now spend N3.3 billion instead of N6.3 billion, but other subheads had been added to the reduction made by President Jonathan. A breakdown of the new proposal under the SGF office shows that 50th independence anniversary parade will cost N860 million, branded gifts and souvenirs N450 million; accommodation and logistics for invited guests N700 million, while security and protocol will cost N400 million. The Ministry of Information and Communications is now to spend N1.7 billion instead of the earlier N1.2 billion. The ministry will spend N1 billion on special reports, N400 million on publication of compendium and N320 million for jingles and adverts. Aviation Ministry is to spend N2.2 billion on Abuja Airport renovation and provision of additional parking space and equipment for safe airport parking at five airports at the cost of N250 million. First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, will spend N50 million on visits to special homes, orphanages, prisons and selected hospitals, while N20 million will be used in sponsoring a special session of the National Children Parliament and another N20 million will be used to organise a party for 1,000 children. Other ministries to spend part of the anniversary fund include, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, N600 million; Ministry of Culture and Tourism, N820 million; State House, N215 million; National Assembly Office, N100 million and the National Planning Commission, N135 million. Mark this down, this celebration expenses will continue to trail this administration and may sometime in future be probed! Jonathan should be wise in spending. N6.6bn is a welcomed adjustment but the people will like to see maximum N2bn 6 Likes 1 Share |

ladi02: 20million for 1000 children, thats N20,000 per child for a party, in a country where policemen are paid N15,000/month whoever is organising that party will be smiling home with a minimum of 15million in their pocket! Good job Jonathan, will say it again this independence day celebration will hunt GEJ for the rest of his political career 2 Likes |

terrible decision, once again GJ has failed. We should not be spending more that #150m, in a country were there is not real reason to celebrate |

ladi02: It seems so, but the figure is still high. What is insensitive about the figure is the breakdown of how the money is actually going to be spent. No 16 or 6.6billion naira wouldn't fix the power problem (as people have out of what I would assume is frustration argued), but I really just don't know what we are celebrating as a nation. |

@poster, believe you start celebrating, may I suggest you take a look at the OLD BREAKDOWN to figure out if this is really something to rejoice over or not. And if he is really listening, I think it is will be a good idea if we would put more pressure on him, shout our more of our complaints from the roof tops if necessary, to cut out more PORK from this bill, and every other. http://placng.org/2010%20Appropriation%20Act%20Ammendment, pdf |

ice234: 6.6billion naira would not eradicate poverty or come close to fixing power, such things would not be fixed by throwing money at them, but by taking a different approach. My problem is how the 6.6 billion is going to be spent. If the money was going to be spent building 'independence celebration schools' or hospitals or 'independence day bridges (or whatever you want to call them), something that would actually benefit people, then sure. At least that sends a message that there is still work to be done and we are considering the welfare of the people (or something to that effect). Throwing one massive party seems like giving the country a pat on the back, . . . . but a pat on the back for what exactly? What have we achieved? No power, poor infrastructure, high youth unemployment, corruption, brain drain in the country, religous violence in the north, environmental degredation and militancy in the south, and most importantly government not seeming to see the problem as serious as the rest of the country sees it. . . . . so what are we celebrating and what message does fireworks and parties send? Once again, a hallmark of the insensitivity that the elite continue to show towards everyone else. If people are not careful one day someone would just snap and that would be the spark that lights the fire of a bloody cleansing. |

6 billion is too much for an Independence Anniversary for one day. 1 days. This is the budget of 4 Yoruba state in a month or 30 days, that want to spend in 1 day. |

What is 6B Naira for? What are we celebrating in a Nation still in darkness and most people are in poverty. Where 4 out of 6 youths are unemployed. |

I wéep for my nation Nigeria... Now I do not weep because of our leaders, but rather I weep because there are still ordinary Nigerians out there who still wish the likes of GEJ were still ruling us.... These same set of people are actually still asking where the change is and all I can say is "May God open the eyes of the blind!" 2 Likes |
