The school fees will reduce. I expect the private unis to charge based on the economic strata of each students.
Wealthy home Kids: Should Pay 100% of Fees
Middle class kids: should pay 30-50% of Fees
Low income kids: should pay 10% of Fees

Every year we have about 3,000 kids thronging babcock willing to pay 1.2 million as fees. If we add ppl çoming from OSU, then the difference in their own fees would be paid by the state govt.

Which stats will they use to identify
The Wealthy
The middle class
And low class?

Nigerians ain't patriotic to that level sir
Hope you know?

BVN of both parents or guardians to certify monthly income. Parents abroad would bring letters from employers abroad or their business account statements. If i am not wrong Spain currently does this model.

The "State university system" is not working because the private sector is not interested in investing in them. Instead the govt should approach and collaborate with private universities. For example rather than have Ogun State Uni, why not give a annual allocation meant for OSU to Babcock while merging OSU campus as an extension of Babcock, so Babcock would absorb a OSU students. The extra fund from Ogun would help Babcock keep down fees significantly while ensuring govt is no longer directly burdened with investment in physical infrastructure, unions and all other shenanigans that come with public universities. If the state governments are consistent on their own part then the model will work because there would be a larger pool of resources which includes Babcock proprietors, State govt and a moderate tuition.

In this model state govts can adopt three private universities with proven financial sustainability records and co-fund them alongside their proprietors in exchange for increased enrollment(50% indigenes, 50% others) and lower fees not exceeding 200,000.00 for courses with exception of medicine and surgery. NB: Northern states should not use this model.

USA for instance spends 4%(last i checked) of total budget on education(less than Nigeria). But you would be mistakened to equate that with a poor university system because they significantly share the burden with the private sector. The US federal govt has no university (except military academies) but give grants to Harvard and Standford.
Now compare the US system to that of public universities in UK who went on strike some months ago or Australian public universities which have been crying against cuts in funding.

Public universities i suggest should be left for small nations where population increase is little. E.g Nordic nations, rwanda etc.

All you have said is correct. But how about we look at it from another angle. The USA system works but it is not perfect because it is fully capitalist in nature. Most families cannot afford to send their children to college making people opt for student loans that they will most likely pay till they die. However, In countries where the government is more involved in the education sector, they will be able to regulate the excesses of a fully profit driven educational enterprise. This would help the masses more than the USA system. And for a developing country like Nigeria, it is easy to exclude a majority of the masses from getting quality education.

As it is already, university education is too expensive for a lot of people. State governments are owing salaries not to talk of providing sponsorship for enough of their indigenes to afford such exorbitant fees. There is a high unemployment rate, so sorry, banks won't be loaning you money to go to school. The rich and influential would most likely use any financial aid opportunities for their own children and families (due to our corrupt system). We already have the highest number of out of school children in Africa. Even if you manage to finish secondary school, you'll probably never be able to afford university education. Which keeps you poor and economically challenged and favors the already rich. Same poor person will not be able to afford university for his/her children. And the cycle of poverty continues.

Better than sending folks outside the country. I still see no sense in African countries sponsoring scholarship outside the continent. It is we arming foreign nations against ourselves -
A ridiculous brain drain as the people never come back.

If the inadequacy of qualified personnel is the problem, then bring the foreigners here to train Nigerians and solve Nigerian problems... Kudos to KASG.

Good opinion.... But on the contrary there his no school in Nigeria anymore.

As far as I am concerned..

And if I may ask... What valid research has any University in Nigeria boast of in the last Ten years?

Bringing the foreigners here amidst insecurity and unfriendly economy... Its only greed that will make the foriegn peep jump on plane and head to Nigeria..

We have to clean our mess first before we bring in a visitor.

Personally my bitter regret was wasting those years.... Listening to one unprofessional lecturer... Who dedicated his time at the staff club with small girls gossiping with is baffing colleagues

On a brighter note... Private universities can still save what remaining of education in Nigeria.

Who knows?

I like your idea, but absorbing private universities by state governments won't be feasible. Simply because of the fee the private universities charge per student.
On average private Unis charge around 600k per session. in order to make it 200k as you suggest (note many students still can't afford!) the government will end up paying around 400k per student per session as subsidy!
The only reason why the system works in the US is simply because of the exorbitant fees the universities charge. US school fees are among the highest in the world.
The only solution is to make a provision for studying on loan like the US. You can pay back gradually when you start earning. Otherwise we will still be going in circles with government schools churning half-baked graduates and private universities affordable to only the 1% at the top.
