I think Nigerian car dealers should be more open and honest with their dealings by making the VIN available to prospective buyers to know the history of what they are paying for, even if the car is an accident car buyers have the right to know the extent of the damage.

With time we hope that becomes the norm.

Awareness by clients and buyers will speed it up. A lot of car buyers are not aware that VIN reports are very necessary.

Clean title cars are often in the best condition, and as such are often more expensive than the salvaged versions.

However the reports are not useless in Nigeria.

The VIN will reveal the true mileage of any vehicle, even if it was altered or rolled back.

Another often overlooked area where the reports are highly necessary is buying replacement engines for vehicles.

For such engines the only way to know the precise mileage and rule out flood or water or other forms of damage as well as to know the service history, is to get a comprehensive VIN Report.
All you have said implies to foreign pre-owned cars and very necessary to any intending buyer, but it's useless asking for a VIN for a Nigerian used car, all you need is a good mechanic to inspect and certify the car fault free before paying for the said car.
I am sure there are competent mechanic or auto technicians here who can handle honest inspection for car buyers when buying locally used vehicles.

No standard VIN for a car manufactured after 1992 contains the alphabet O.

They contain the number 0 Zero.

Here's a fun fact:
The vehicle identification number is a unique cryptogram to identify a specific vehicle using specific soft for e.g. — Vingurus . Basically, it is similar to a fingerprint of a vehicle, as no two vehicles can share the same vehicle identification number.
VIN car check is a set of 17 characters (capital letters and numbers) that serves as a unique identifier for each vehicle. However, this does not include the letters I, O, and Q. The VIN indicates the unique characteristics, characteristics, and manufacturer of each vehicle.
