Some Nigerians are politically and economically naive by bringing party or the president in this issue of minimum wage, its a very delicate issue because its not just about increasing it, its about being able to pay it. Truly this doesnt goes along the line of political parties so lets leave that out, its about the national problem we have.
Truly a state can pay any minimum wage if its workforce is right sized, benue state for example has the third highest salary bill in nigeria, and there is no justification for that knowing the fact that benue doesnt rank amongst the richest states, such a state would easily afford any mininum wage by correcting its workforce's size, but however no governor would want to thread that path majorly because of the fear of losing electoral favour.
The only way forward is if the constitution can to amended to allow each state have its own minimum wage, so then we can throw stone at the right people, because as it stand any new minimum wage would surely affect some states.

When it comes to paying civil servants good wage, the money is always too big, and lots of people start complaining about possible inflation but when FG / Nass wants to collect their salary, it is never too much and does not have any effect on the economy.

There is no money but our politicians always have money available for their foolish wants.

For how long will this go on?...for how long will our people keep suffering and smiling at the hands of these selfish leaders

Point of correction,Awo never built first University in Africa. What he built was a University College and not full fledge university. UNN was the first university in nigeria but not in Africa. Nigeria does not house the first university in Africa please.

If you (and all your post "likers" ) were any more stttttupid, your brain would need watering every morning.

One cannot go through all the singular micro-projects you seem to employ as metric for great achievements, but let me go through a few of them.

BVN and PVCs are achievements?

Having a building makes it a "University"? The kind of shithole ones that produced moorons like you and labelled them "graduates"?

Even if holy water is used to water your brain, you would still not be able to recover from this level of stupidity!

@bolded, I agree, but I think thats only part of the problem. I agree the workforce in some states are ridiculously overbloated. Indeed, at the risk of generalizing, I make bold to say if you've ever been to some state secretariats you'll be shocked at the level of redundancy there. But the problem is what can governors do? engage in mass sacking, like one of the south east governors did some years back or just simply owe them months on end?

To me, like I posited earlier, the real problem is the current structure of the country. Simply reducing the workforce is not going to cut it; it involves something far more drastic, like an overall reduction and collapsing of states. Our current 'modified socialism' which in effect is what we're practicing, is not sustainable. We dont have the resources for that.

However these are very VERY difficult and inconvenient - even politically suicidal - issues that no politician would ever want to risk considering. So the silly self deceit of 20k min wage continues. . . sad

First of all you have to snap out of the deceit and brainwashing of these politicians that there is no money, infact there is so much money you can find it anywhere you go in this country, under the pillow, in uninhabited flats, in a store built and money packed liked containers of goods with ac installed to keep it chilled, in the sink, snakes are swallowing them, in the soak-away, some are just simply dissapearing. i can go on and on and on. The major reason the nigerian government gives why the workers wage cant be increased is because their is no money *laughs out loud* now if you believe this then no offense but you lack common sense undecided. let me just list some very few documented !! findings that i can remember that is enough to pay the 100k minimum wage for straight 37 years, whistle blowing alone has recovered =N=9.2 billion and over $151 million. obasanjo recovered $505 million, few days ago the house of reps discovered =N=21 billion and $104 million undeclared revenue in 2 separate accounts, alhaji lai mohammed himself said =N=78 billion and $9 billion has been recovered in stolen loot so far in the present administartion. now these are just some few off the top of my head(that translates to =N=3.955 trillion divided by the 89,000 federal civil servants is =N=44.4 million each which will pay 100k minimum wage for atleast 37 years shocked shocked). my brother the problem with nigeria is that there is never going to be enough money for the greedy to steal, what you have to understand is there is no way you can run an effective civil service with people being paid $46 a month, there in lies one of the sources of corruption, do you know since 1999 the national assembly as a whole has increased their salaries by over 5000% undecided. do you know each of the 109 senators goes home with no less than =N=13.5 million a month Plus 200 million for constituency projects not to talk about their 360 counterparts in the house of reps?, do you know that the national assembly budget for 2017 was $393 million? do you know that this buhari federal government spends =N=774 million every blessed day on petrol subsidy? do you know that our economy is bigger than that of south africa? south africa minimum wage is 3.5k rand that is equivalent to 100k and According to Statistics South Africa its June 2014 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey, there were 455,701 national government employees, now compare that to the nigerian federal civil service which currently roughly have about 89,500 workers, meanwhile the 2018 budget pegged oil price at roughly $51 per barrel oil has been selling far above that price for months and currently selling roughly at $80 per barrel now. According to the International Energy Agency, Nigeria produced about 2.53 million barrels (402,000 m3) per day, well below its oil production capacity of over 3 million barrels (480,000 m3) per day, now do the maths, my friend and ask your self what exactly is the government doing with all these excess revenue embarassed when you increase the purchasing power of workers you are not causing inflation, rather you are creating jobs and breathing life to small businesses, in a country of well over 170 million people increasing the salaries of 89,000 people will not cause inflation. politicians steal billions of naira, thier friends and relations buy private jets, nigerian customs generates about 1 trillion yearly, revenue from tax in nigeria was over 4 billion in 2017 and is expected to hit 6 billion in 2018, nigeria maritime administration and safety agency generated 300 billion last year and is expected to increase this year, as far back as 2013 alone total cash remited to the fG by NNPC was $50 billion.........arghhhhhh !!!!!! i am just getting worked up typing this. you can continue wallowing in your ignorance or wake up from your slumber. now many sheepish nigerians are are singing atiku, oh my God!! from frying pan to fire? How can an educated person write this way?
Well you said we have 89,000 civil servants which is as old as 3 years ago, we have up to 95,000 Fed civil servants now.

So that means 100k for the least qualified civil servants? how much for level 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 to the highest? remember the 100k you are asking for the least qualified might be the take home pay of level 8 or even 9 fed civil servants?

If we are to toll the line, then all subsidies handled by the government is removed, let's see if the salary will make any sense. remember we have school subsidy, petrol, kerosene, health e.t.c

So let's continue from here. i need you to fix salaries for each federal levels, then we can calculate and see how feasible your straight from your heart figure is.

Sorry, can't read the rest of the stuffs you wrote because they are not comprehensive enough to understand.

Is federal government supposed to create job? Is Nigeria a manufacturing company country?

Have you forgotten the war against ghost workers? Meaning the 89k of 2015 might have dropped by more than 10k after ghost workers were detected. So 89-10=79 , meaning 16k more workers employed.
Also remember that some ministries were scrapped and some merged, which also reduced the workforce.

Now back to my other questions, can you respond to them accordingly?

God save our Blessed country nigeria Amen.

Look at the cretinous product of a failed education system ranting like a pure fuuucktard!

So, according to your dumb self, government should plan recurrent expenditure based on income streams they have not secured?

What kind of fuuucktard are you?

Fooool, have you ever seen Nigeria's budget? grin grin grin grin grin
