Binikingdowm:
The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said former President Goodluck Johnathan only conceded defeat after the 2015 elections because he knew the nation would witness economic recession soon.

Mr Jonathan, before the announcement of the final results, in a move that shocked many political pundits, conceded defeat to the current president, Muhamadu Buhari, after a keenly contested polls.

That was the first time an incumbent would be losing the top seat (and conceding victory) to an opposition party in Nigeria.

Mr Jonathan has been celebrated globally for his action, which many believe saved the country from political turmoil.

The economy plunged into recession shortly after in 2015. The recession raged in 2016 and through late 2017 when the nation then emerged from it.

However, Mr Fashola, a former governor of Lagos State, said on Thursday at a South-west town hall meeting that Mr Jonathan only relinquished power because he wanted to avoid being at the helm of affairs during the recession.

The meeting was organised by the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, and held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Mr Fashola at the meeting also said the Goodluck government not only plunged the nation into recession but pushed it into debts.

”What was left behind were massive debts owed to contractors who had not been paid for three to five years and who had laid off thousands of workers and shut down equipment and plants.

”That was one of the reasons why the economy first went into, and, I suspect, one of the reasons they (Goodluck administration) quickly conceded defeat,” Mr Fashola said.

What is this one saying again? Is he trying to prepare a ground for his master not to concede defeat? A man lost an election and did what is legitimate, one rabble rouser turn around and makes it look like Jonathan had a choice, so if Buhari loses election and the country is not in recession, he won't concede defeat? Won need ati check opolo Fasola.

His utterances of recent are not in synch with that claim. Lawyers are brilliant people.

Mr Fashola the Minister of Darkness,it seems you've failed to realise that your Buhari is not contesting 2019 election against Jonathan but Atiku.
Quit this blame on Jonathan already and answer this posers?

1. Did Jonathan only got to know about the impeding recession on the day the election result was announced and decided to concede defeat?

2. If he Jonathan was avoiding being at the helm of affairs of the country under recession, don't you think he would've been smarter enough by refusing a second term bid and allow the party field another candidate since he knew his candidacy was generating bad blood in the North?

3. Of Jonathan plunged Nigeria into debt and the total debt of the country under PDP 16years rule was just 6 Trillion, what do we say your Buhari APC led Government has plunged Nigeria into with the total debt of 30 trillion you have incurred in 3 and half years and still wanting to borrow more?

4. Between Jonathan's government and Buhari's government, which did Nigerians witness lay off of workers more?

Lastly, I'm so much disappointed in you and I question what really have upstairs to have been celebrated as the then Governor of Lagos state if you need to be told that Jonathan's budget for works, power and other sectors you mentioned was lower than yours because exchange rate was lower in his time and the economy was better, while your government's mismanagement of the economy sky rocketed exchange rate.

Please feel free to compare the achievements of the Government Atiku served to your Buhari's government because Atiku is the one contesting against him and not Jonathan.

I hope you remember you once said in your bid to ridicule Jonathan that "any serious government will fix power in 6 months"? Is your government automatically not a serious government for failing to fix same power for 3 and a half years?

Maybe as you've suddenly realised that to fix power is not magic like you recently confessed, you'll one day also realise that you and your government have failed Nigerians and it was very foolish of you and an insult to Nigerians to have asked for a second term.

Really?
And yet he contested for the election when he could have just resigned.

fashola is showing us the character behind the hype.

An empty suit who is desperately going to the mud as a last resort.

I used to think this man is one individual as good as Peter obi, if not better.

His poor performance of the past 3 years, and his desperate outbursts in the couple of days shows he is just overrated.

Peter obi is simply better in every way.

Where will they get the chance with all the hate they have spewed on the nation? For a whole Fashola to be talking like this means we are going for broke. We want to see what igbos will do to us if we return bubu for a 2nd term.

Igbos dont have a monopoly of hate. We shall all destroy this country together since that is what igbos want to do because of the burnt bridges their insults and hate has engendered.

Okonjo saw the numbers far back in 2012 and told us to get ready for recession.

Okonjo saw the numbers and screamed danger back in 2013

Okonjo and Jona declared austerity measures in 2014 when oil was selling for $75/barrel.

We thank God she was not in charge when oil dropped down to $27/barrel.

Bottom line, Fashola was factual and right on the money, the economy was on life support between 2012 to 2015 when Nigerians kicked Jona out of office, in fact, he borrowed hundreds of billions to pay workers salary till his last month in office.

So Buhari & co. knew nothing about the state of the nigerian economy when they were promising us change abi ? A bad workman is always quarrelling with his tools. Ok excuse accepted pls pack & go lets try another person, chikena !
