This is balderdash.

The economy plunged into a recession primary due to the exchange control introduced by PMB.

The economy was headed for a downturn but not a recession.

Utomi,Soludo and particularly Sanusi condemned Buharis statist policies.

I see Fasola wants to weep up sentiments here, by lying to south west youths to forget how incompetent Buhari is and focus on ethnic politics.
All South west youths are not fools like before.
They can only prove to be zombies if their lives have suddenly become better under this Titanic poverty led by buhari.

Excuse 1.Jonattan
Excuse 2. Vote for buhari, so that 2023 SW will rule.
Excuse 3. Power will be stable in 3months
Excuse 4. #1 equal to $1
Excuse 5, kwarruption

No direction, all hate talk, tribal talk.

It is sad that a highly cerebral man like fasola will descend low to excuses and tribal politics.

Okonjo saw the numbers far back in 2012 and told us to get ready for recession.

Truth be told, PMB's exchange rate plunged the economy into a recession.

The economy was already entering a downturn in 2015 but a recession was not certain.

Upon assumption of office,PMB fixed the exchange rate,at 197 to the dollar. It had declined from around 160 in mid 2014 due to rapidly declining crude oil prices which supplied the bulk of the Forex inflow.

Buhari fixed it upon assuming power which was even illegal as the CBN is semi autonomous to prevent the kind of political meddling he did.

This pegging led to massive shortage of Forex which indicated PMB had ocervalued the rate and could not defend it.

The Forex, shortage starved companies of Forex and they could not import raw materials or machinaries and they started shutting down leading to massive job losses and a recession.

Utomi, Soludo and Sanusi condemned PMB policies

Simply Google Utomi or Soludo or Sanusi condemn PMB economic policies.

The man is very honest and has integrity but his economics is lamentable and managerial skills appalling.

I am apolitical and don't even vote.if I was to vote in 2015 though, I would have voted for buhari.

Okonjo saw the numbers and screamed danger back in 2013

Okonjo and Jona declared austerity measures in 2014 when oil was selling for $75/barrel.

We thank God she was not in charge when oil dropped down to $27/barrel.

Bottom line, Fashola was factual and right on the money, the economy was on life support between 2012 to 2015 when Nigerians kicked Jona out of office, in fact, he borrowed hundreds of billions to pay workers salary till his last month in office.

The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said former President Goodluck Johnathan only conceded defeat after the 2015 elections because he knew the nation would witness economic recession soon.

Mr Jonathan, before the announcement of the final results, in a move that shocked many political pundits, conceded defeat to the current president, Muhamadu Buhari, after a keenly contested polls.

That was the first time an incumbent would be losing the top seat (and conceding victory) to an opposition party in Nigeria.

Mr Jonathan has been celebrated globally for his action, which many believe saved the country from political turmoil.

The economy plunged into recession shortly after in 2015. The recession raged in 2016 and through late 2017 when the nation then emerged from it.

However, Mr Fashola, a former governor of Lagos State, said on Thursday at a South-west town hall meeting that Mr Jonathan only relinquished power because he wanted to avoid being at the helm of affairs during the recession.

The meeting was organised by the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, and held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Mr Fashola at the meeting also said the Goodluck government not only plunged the nation into recession but pushed it into debts.

”What was left behind were massive debts owed to contractors who had not been paid for three to five years and who had laid off thousands of workers and shut down equipment and plants.

”That was one of the reasons why the economy first went into, and, I suspect, one of the reasons they (Goodluck administration) quickly conceded defeat,” Mr Fashola said.

Very ignorant and unintelligent post.
For someone who spent an entire post trying to convince us Jonathan absconded from power only to finally conclude the long epistle by admitting Nigerians voted him out,am not surprised am making no sense to you.. grin

South South has ruled and they still rule. The middlebelt too will rule very soon. But the South East is a no no and you know why.

Fashola was spot on with his assessment of jonathan's concession of defeat.

Where will they get the chance with all the hate they have spewed on the nation? For a whole Fashola to be talking like this means we are going for broke. We want to see what igbos will do to us if we return bubu for a 2nd term.

Igbos dont have a monopoly of hate. We shall all destroy this country together since that is what igbos want to do because of the burnt bridges their insults and hate has engendered.

#istandwithbuharitill2023
Yeah,am sure you were making this type of comment when the Niger Delta Militants were holding the Nation hostage and how they will never smell power because the powers that be will NEVER allow it..last time I checked they ruled this Nation for FIVE YEARS upon what the North tried to DENY them from taking over from Yar'dua..
NOTHING can STOP an IDEA whose TIME has COME,the day God in his wisdom says it's IGBOS turn to rule neither you nor any IGBO hater can do anything about it and like I said you'll be alive long enough to hang yourself because of it.. grin

It's absolutely noty necessary to make and keep making axcuses because the folks involved spoke in clear terms where the economy was heading based on their own poor management of the economy, wholesale looting and stealing.

Jona and Okonjo decleared austerity meausures in 2014 and they predicted recession in 2013 so why are you making irrelevant excuses to justify after the facts situation when PMB surfacesd regardless the decisions made by PMB?

Brrowing hundreds of billions to pay workers salary untill the same month Jone left office means a strong economy? No, it was a battered economy with zero monetary streanth to go forward especially with oil selling at $27.

You should be telling us what they did with the hundreds oif billions of dollars oil earnings they collected and why all Nigerians benefited in return was darkness, poor infrastructures, no refinery, no petrochemical plants, no roads, no bridges, no hospitals, no airline no new seaports, but thousands of abandoned projects all over the country.

In less than 3 years, we are completing and comissioning projects left and right, something 16 years od PDP and $400 billion couldn't do.
