Transparency International, TI urged to denounce Nigeria Rep

Transparency International, TI has been asked to denounce a “self-serving” statement credited to its Nigerian representative, Mr Musa Rafsanjani.
The official had mid-this week denounced the call for State police saying Nigeria was not ripe for the restructuring of the Nigerian Police Force, (NPF).
A statement signed by Mr Pam Gyan on behalf of the Middle-Belt Rights Watch, (MBRW) accused Mr Rafsanjani of using the Transparency International, (TI) to pursue his closed-minded ethnic agenda.
The group said it is dangerous for an organization with an international reputation to allow itself to be used against the interest of Nigerians because of the ethnic agenda of the individual occupying the important position of the group.
Rafsanjani had said that Nigeria was not ripe for State security on the grounds that the state governors were tyrannical and would use the police to oppress their people. Gyan said Rafsanjani failed to realize that the Federal Government is doing just the same thing by using the police to oppress the people especially ethnic minorities in the most unspeakable manner.
“It’s a false narrative that the states are worse than the Federal Government. He argues that the States have been abusing the police, but we wonder why the Federal Government that currently controls the same police cannot checkmate the state governors if itself is not bird of the same feather.”
Gyan further argued that Rafsanjani who is of the Fulani stuck is one of those whose human rights work is designed to please primordial sentiments and service the aspirations of his own people.
“What he has said is fundamentally wrong. There cannot be a plural society without a plural security apparatus. State Governors find it easier to use Federal Police because the officials are not indigenes of those states. It will be impossible to use the indigenous police against their own people.”
Gyan said Mr Rafsanjani is notorious for bias, ethnic jingoism and promotion of the Fulani agenda adding that the most dangerous trend is to use a global organization to advance narrow-minded interests.
