Good day everyone, what I'm going to say may be very long but please bear with me. I recently relocated to London (I created a thread on it with pictures) https://www.nairaland.com/4846220/im-traveling-london-follow-me I was happy seeing this post today and let me share MY opinion. it is normal to get skeptical of Op claims because we are 9ja we know ourselves but since he has not asked for anything or sold an e-book yet this seems legit I researched his story and figures ... Yes it is possible to save this much if he really works as hard as he says Yes it is true that most don't save as much abroad especially whites due to credit card expenses, school loans, housing, car loans, and catching fun e. t. c Here in the UK, if I make the equivalent of what Op is making I won't be able to save much, because the cost of living is very expensive. that's why most of you don't hear from your relatives abroad. so it depends on the place, it is easier to save in Canada and USA than in UK though the only advantage is that Pounds ( uk currency ) has higher power than the others. So to fully change some doubters mind please can you take some pictures of Canada and hold a paper of nairaland written on it ( please don't show your face). though this is optional and congratulations to your mom her story inspired me. PS: the average Nigerian doctor makes 250,000 naira a month. the average doctor in Canada makes $ 28,166.6 Canadian dollars a month convert 1 CAD= 267.60 Naira 28,166.6 x 267.6 = 7,537,382.16 7.5 million per month that's why Nigerian doctors are coming here 12 Likes

naijaman3: Yeah the details make it confusing. Like the wife will need stuffs, transport, clothes and all expenses so what's the motive of handing over a part time pay check when the hubby is already completely responsible for her needs and she'll be enrolling for her school. Her needs will still come from his pocket. OP, if you can't save as much each month, you can pause a bit on it till the next but if you give details on your wife's paycheck, we know you're still responsible for her needs and general upkeep and it will come from same savings 1 Like |

[quote author=yemiosinbajo post=74064968] Mann, that's a lot of hours. Do you work weekends too? What type of job is this? This is one problem with Yankee life: you need to work really hard to make ends meet. Initially when you move from a country like Nigeria having experienced severe poverty, it seems cool that you have the opportunity to work multiple hours without rest. You seem to enjoy it and try to save as much as you can. However, after spending some years here, you begin to feel it's too much labor, and your interests begin to dissipate. You cannot stop otherwise you rake in too much bills and debts. Welcome to the American life![/quote Am a correction officer scheduled to work 13 hrs for 7days but unfortunately the facility is always short staffed so i put in more days overtime sometimes i work 16hrs but really crazy. My bill is always moderate. My rent is $950 light and water is $450 and insurance is $259. But despite all this my mobthly saving is $2000. If you need the job, i can send you a link but only for people in America. The truth is that, the facility will pay me for $500 for bringing you 21 Likes 3 Shares |

TroublemakerPro:You can definitely save in the UK too. Much would depend on your location within the UK. The tax in the UK and living expenses in Canada is very similar. I lived in Manchester and saved a substantial amount of money even when I worked survival job there. I also had a ghanaian friend that studied and funded himself through his MSc and Phd all from savings earned from his night security job. The average pay for a family Physician in Canada is around 160k to 300k depending on Province. Most will end up in the mid 250s. Specialists make on the higher end. 300k and up. While converting to Naira, it's not also easy as it looks. Nigerian Drs do not probably have mortgage payments of $4k/months or car finances of $2k per month 11 Likes |

salford1: Bro in London where I stay the rent is expensive, and like you said it depends on where you stay. I said if you make exactly what OP makes( converted to pounds) , you won't save as much as him because of the expenses especially rent. I did not say you can't save. |
Re: My Monthly Savings In Canada by salford1: 9:00pm On Dec 22, 2018 |
TroublemakerPro:I lived in the UK for 7 years so I kind of have an idea of how things work there. Even in London, you can get extra pay for living in a bigger city. London wages are higher than manchester wages so you can sometimes save as much as someone living in mancs. 4 Likes |

salford1: Bro, let's say I got the wrong info from Google, as the picture below shows. But if you read what I wrote again, I converted Canadian dollar to naira, I did not compare the living conditions for both. that aside , doctors do have to pay back their student loans which can range from 150,000 and above.. The compulsory payments are the student loans and tax, health insurance utilities e.t.c. Things such as housing and transportation differs, and like someone stated the white likes to spend. But if after everything a doctor abroad saves 3k a month from his salary. That's 3000 x 267. 6= 802,789.26. 800,000 in savings is bigger than the 250,000 average monthly salary in Nigeria don't you think? .

salford1: You are right about the higher minimum wage in London compared to the rest of UK. But the influx of immigrants every year, makes getting SOME jobs difficult, because an employer will rather hire someone willing to take the 7.8 pounds an hour instead of the minimum wage of 9.15 thereby Messing everything up. It depends on the job though, |

internationalman: Full time job is normally 40 hours a week for hourly rate job. 1 year = 52 weeks For 1 week: $16 × 40 = $640 For 1 year: $640 × 52 = $33,280 Exchange rate Canadian $ to naira through oanda currency converter as today is Can $1 = N266 Total in 1 year: $33,280 × 266 = N8,852,480. Remember Canada is not Nigeria. 25% to 40% of that money is government (taxes). This will depend on your filing status. Also 30% to 60% of the reminder is going for rent. That money only look big because of exchange rate. Don't get me wrong, you can't compare Canada to Nigeria. 7 Likes |

tolani4real: @tolani4real Going by the part of your message above in bold, when it comes to taxes and the remaining income after taxes & deductions in Canada some of you are just not getting it. At the income you calculated above ($33,280), if he lives in Alberta he would only pay $5998 (or 18.02%) in taxes & other deductions (Employment Insurance - EI & Canadian Pension Plan - CPP). By the way EI and CPP are not even taxes. Regarding how he could potentially spend the after tax income with due diligent if he wants to save a lot see my write up here on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/4857306/monthly-savings-canada/10#73854976 Regarding what his taxes, EI and CPP are being used for that he gets for free in Canada which he would otherwise have paid for in Nigeria, see my other write up on another thread: https://www.nairaland.com/4795992/7-m-annual-income-move#72235695 Regarding how much tax, EI and CPP he would pay depending on his income and province of residence, see the link here: https://simpletax.ca/calculator 17 Likes 9 Shares |

But it may be difficult for me to break down this particular point, so i will just leave it. But i promise, in subsequent post, you will realize how we were able to make ends meet. Mizwisdom: |
