All of you crying, shouting, wailing and citing ECOWAS for an excuse, please remember that the same ECOWAS had told Buhari to release Dasuki - what did he do?
......this is Nigeria, .....

Did you guys read the article at all. The Miyetti guy is very correct, the border, security and Government agencies, are supposed to be prepared for these people's yearly/seasonal migration patterns, they know their usual routes, they should be waiting for them to give them a travel certificate, to identify them to count their population, while at the same time, control what they are bringing into the country, be it, ammunitions or contraband items, and/or disease riddled cattles.

Didn't you read in the news that some strange looking people are collecting taxes from the indigenes in a village in Sokoto? Giving the challenge we are facing relating to the herdsmen/ terrorism issue any sensible government will put a hold on migrations of aliens into Nigeria. Look at what Trump is doing in America that is not even at war.

I won't be surprised if they register for a PVC and vote next year. [/quote]

Where do you think all the huge numbers of votes come from. They are coming in preparing to vote next year for their brother. This is just from Mali; the Nigerien, Sudan and Chadian voters are still on their way.

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has warned security agencies and civilians against attacking Malian herders grazing their cattle in Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

The social media had been filled with reports of the invasion of Gudu and Tangaza in Sokoto State by some bandits on Friday.

But the state police command had debunked the claim, saying the invaders were not bandits, but herdsmen from Mali “who reside in a forest in Niger Republic, sharing a border with Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas of the state.”

Speaking with our correspondent on Monday, the Secretary-General of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Mr Alhassan Saleh, said the Malian herders’ presence in the country was nothing to worry about, as they were only grazing their cattle, a tradition he said they had been performing annually for the past 100 years.

“Those people are not bandits; they are covered by the ECOWAS Protocol on Trans Human Movement to move across borders to graze their cattle. They have been doing that for over 100 years. They come during the dry season and leave later,” he said.

The said protocol allows ECOWAS member countries’ citizens to have the right to enter, reside and establish in the territory of member countries.

Article 3 of the protocol, however, states that any ECOWAS citizen who wishes to enter the territory of any other member country shall be required to possess a valid travel document and international health certificate.

Saleh said the government and security agencies ought to sensitise Nigerians on the protocol in order to avert any trouble.

He said, “It’s because we are so sensitive nowadays that anytime we see a large number of cows, we panic. I blame the government and security agencies for this. They ought to enlighten the people on the ECOWAS Protocol for better understanding.

“Those foreign herders are not bandits and I hope we will not attack them and then invite trouble. Nobody should attack them.

“Ideally, the Customs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among other security agencies, should issue Trans Human Certificates to the foreign herders.”

Saleh said the security agencies ought to have collected important data, such as the number of herders coming into the country; the number of cattle they are bringing into the country; the health of the cows so as to know which one is diseased; how long the herders will stay here with their cattle; and when they will leave so that they can be tracked.

He said, “We are supposed to have cross-border security in place and deploy cattle tracking technology. Unfortunately, the government is not serious about livestock development in this country.

“They would promise to ranch today and cattle colony tomorrow, but nothing is happening. Maybe they want to eradicate pastoralism and give the business to capitalists.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Moshood Jimoh, had also on Saturday said there were no bandits in Sokoto State, but herders from Mali.

“They come to the same area annually from Mali to Nigerian border areas in search of water for their cattle,” he had said.

...followed by alapotopoto.... they both truncate the development of Nigeria through their demonic activities and corrupt tendencies.... which they transferred to the Yoruba through infectious compatriotism of Nigeria nationhood. its a surprise that the yorubas that supposed to be agitating for self determination are not even doing so. It's rather ironic that the crooked ones are the ones agitating for separation.

I totally agree with Miyetti Allah. Nobody should attack the Malian Herders even as they go around wielding sophisticated weapons and imposing taxes on the poor indigenes, instead we should attack the Nigerian farmers for not surrendering their ancestral lands for grazing.
Even a country as wrteched as Niger, Chad and even Togo has a comprehensive data base/ biometric data of all their citizens even with the ECOWAS agreement on free movement/trade in West Africa, they've not born you well to move around without any means of identification even if you want to buy Chewing gum across the street and you are caught by the security agents without any ID you will hate ur life, that is if you are bundled back to ur country in one piece, but reverse is the case here. And you people want to tell me that we are not all gradually running MAD in this country.

Yes, every other West African country had a national ID when I visited in the 90s, and foreigners were required to have an ID issued by their respective embassy. Those in authority do not want a national ID system in place for their own ulterior motives.
