The Independent National Electoral Commission in Adamawa State has fixed Thursday for governorship candidates of all political parties in the state to sign a peace pact.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Kasim Gaidam, disclosed this in an interview in Yola on Tuesday.

Gaidam said the signing of the peace accord was part of the commission’s preparation for credible and acceptable 2019 general elections.

“Governorship candidates in the state will sign the peace accord on December 20, 2018.

“The peace accord is for peaceful conduct of the 2019 polls under the leadership of the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police,” Gaidam said.

On the security situation in the northern parts of the state and Madagali Local Government Area in particular, he said the commission had recently conducted voters registration in the areas and the exercise was hitch-free.

He called on eligible voters, who were recently captured in the registration to go to INEC offices in their local government areas and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
