BUT in other words, that is very dangerous considering there is no mechanism for voltage regulation.


There is regulation, I sight a car charger which is a DC to DC converter that can convert or step down 12VDC motor battery to 5V required to charge mobile phones.

The only danger is someone inadvertently shortcircuiting the motor battery terminals smiley

not dangerous at all I do this all the time, is just to know the positive and negative terminals of the motor charger and link it to the positive and negative terminals of the battery

That battery is 12V which is more than double the standard 5V supplied by smartphone chargers.. The current output is also more... But that cigarette lighter plug will step down the voltage to the standard 5V value. So it will charge normally & at the same rate as the power supply from the charger.
