Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has disclosed that registration for the exams would commence on JANUARY 10, 2019.

Below are some important information as regards the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

1. JAMB to start the sale of 2019 UTME forms on 10th January.

2. 2019 JAMB Mock Examination proposed date will soon be announced

3. 2019 JAMB UTME Form proposed closing date: 6 Weeks from the day registration commenced.

4. JAMB have banned the use of wristwatches & pens by candidates and other persons in the exam hall.

5. The price of the 2019 UTME Registration Form will be NGN4,700
a. Cost of Regn. PIN: #3,500

b. Compulsory Reading Text: #500

c. Service Charge for Regn: #700

Total: #4,700.

What I just don't understand is to make buying the book compulsory. This in itself is corruption and a way of de-frauding people. It should be optional. A few years back when my children(2) sat for JAMB, they bought Last Days at Forcados. Unfortunately they did not make it. The following year, they were made to buy the books again!

The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja. According to him, a total number of 1, 662, 762 candidates registered for the 2018 UTME, within a period of two months, as against a total of 1,718,425 candidates who registered within one month in 2017

They know how much they are making. It is easy to calculate this: 500 * 1,718,425 (excluding DE). This gives us a tidy sum of 859,212,500. Yeah, you read it right! Eight Hundred and Fifty Nine Million Two Hundred and Twelve Thousand and Five Hundred Naira. There ia a cabal (my suspicion) that is behind the rip-off. When I wrote JAMB in the 80s, they used to cull passages. That is still OK.

My take is that the amount charged for JAMB registration is way too much. Computerization is supposed to make things easier and cheaper. Yes the process of registration is easier, but it is way too expensive. The same thing happens with WAEC. They force people to buy calculator. Product forcing is unacceptable. Even if you have to do it, it ought to be way less costlier because the market is there.

JAMB and government are being dishonest when they announced the cost has been cut down to 3.5K. It was only reduced to 4.7K. Please don't deceive us. Parents will only be interested in the TOTAL AMOUNT that is coming out of their pockets. I won't give my daughter 3,500 to register but 4,700. Stop being dishonest
