Redeem Church (Redeem Christian Church of God) Nigeria is one of the high powering and elitists churches in Nigeria today. Sitting at the helm of affairs of Redeem Church is Pastor Enoch Adeboye a shrewd mathematician. Pastor Adeboye resigned from his university teaching job to pick up the leadership mantle of Redeem Church. The church was established many decades ago and it is still moving stronger as the day goes by. The church has spread across Nigeria and beyond the shores of Nigeria. Since the inception of the church, lots of transformations have taken place within its peripheral existence.

There has been some paradigm shift in some doctrinal issues especially, in the mode of their dressing. Some decades ago the dressing identity of Redeem Church women is long flare skirt and a beret cap. And the men’s signature dressing is safari suits or simple trouser and shirt. Today, the reverse is the case especially among the young women; they adorn trousers and simple skimpy cloths. The men put on well-tailored suits that make them look elegant in their appearance. Evidence on ground reveals that a picture of Redeem church members of many years ago will speak different tone from what is obtainable today among them.

However, under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adeboye the Redeem Church has seen tremendous growth. The expansion of the church grew wider and faster numerically. And this also reflects in the class of membership the church has. In the Redeem Church is possible to find people of different categories and standards as members.

One of the unique steps the church administration has taken is to allow church leaders to participate in other jobs different from ministerial duties. The implication of this is that Pastors can as well take other jobs and still pastor in Redeem Church. This instills a system where pastors, deacons, elders and evangelists of Redeem church can take secular jobs. And as they do, they use the opportunity to preach Christ and instill Christ’s character in their areas of work. This system is not in line with the traditional method where pastors do not have the privilege to take up secular jobs. In the traditional method, many pastors are stationed in the Church and do no other job than pastoring.

This method from the Redeem Church by extension grants its members the opportunity to be in politics. So Redeem Church is seen as a church that is politically friendly. And because of this, many political bigwigs finds Redeem Church to be a place to indirectly do their campaigns. So any politician that is vying for an elective position is expected to attend one of the Redeem Church programs and establish his presence. A direct or indirect approval and prayer for the politician from Pastor Adeboye means much for him or her. The build up from this has helped to instill the zeal from well-meaning members of the church to be active in politics.
