It is more than a mere accusation. The man himself admitted he made a mistake. Many people are in prison today because of innocent mistakes.

The CJN does not need and should not step aside( if that means he should resign) cos that would mean that the people who wanted him out for clearly political reasons would have won.

He should RECLUSE himself on matters relating to the investigation once a petition gets to the NJC ( by the way, am still not aware of any petition to the NJC on this matter which speaks volumes).

[What of if he resigns and he is later found out to be innocent, does he get back his position as CJN?

"Inmocent" of disobeying the law & due process? cheesy

Clerverly:
The suspension of Walter Onnoghen as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari has predictably generated furore within and outside the country, a situation that is less desirable a few weeks to the 2019 general election.

The process leading to Onnoghen’s suspension, beginning with the petition by a civil society group against him over an alleged non-declaration of assets, has been assailed by many commentators, lawyers and activists who argue that due process has not been followed.

In the avalanche of judicial pronouncements and interpretations of the laws, however, there seems to be an emerging consensus that the government could have handled the Onnoghen case better and within the confines of the statutes.

As a public officer, the CJN has already indicted himself by admitting that he forgot to declare certain assets, and there is no protection in law for this. There is also suspicion that he cannot reasonably account for the value of the transactions that have been carried out on some of his bank accounts. This inevitably points to the fact that he might have a case to answer, and this is definitely not good for a custodian of public trust in the temple of justice.

Nevertheless, the rule of law and legal procedures need to be followed in order not to create the impression that democratic principles are being willfully bypassed in the Onnoghen case. The government can still achieve the same end result by following the procedural path.

While TheCable is fully persuaded that there has been no fidelity to laid-down procedures in the treatment of the Onnoghen case, there is no doubt that the CJN himself is not smelling of roses in the whole affair.

To break the logjam, therefore, we call on Buhari to immediately recall Onnoghen from suspension. This will save his government from further accusation of dictatorship.

In the meantime, Onnoghen can save the entire country the whole trouble by stepping aside as CJN as soon as he is reinstated by Buhari. This will allow him to clear his name. It is only fair that he cannot be expected to head the judicial arm of government while he is being investigated.

We also call on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to step into the impasse and do the right thing by subjecting Onnoghen to a transparent investigation. He should be put on administrative leave while investigation lasts as he cannot be a judge in his own case.

If Onnoghen is found to have committed an infringement, he should be appropriately disciplined so that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) can proceed with his trial within the confines of the law. For now, his innocence has to be presumed until guilt is established.

The CCT, on the other hand, has to come under a new leadership because of the ongoing corruption case against the chairman, Danladi Umar. He has also conducted himself less creditably in the Onnoghen case. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

TheCable calls on all sides of the divide to put the nation’s interest first. The allegations against the CJN are grave and no matter the temptation to play politics, the interest of the country must never be downplayed.

It is in the interest of Nigeria for state institutions to be allowed to do their jobs unimpeded and it is the responsibility of our leaders to make sure processes and procedures are not subverted no matter the political atmosphere.

CJN has sentenced: armed robbers, arsonists etc to jail under the law.

Yet, he forgot to a most important aspect of the same law. Where on earth is that allowed.

He has money in foreign currencies which he can't explained.

He's seeking justice from whence he can direct.

He adjourned the NJC indefinitely to avoid discipline.

Here I am, someone that have a stake in Nigeria, been told that due process is not followed.

What I need in this circumstances is necessary process.

Thank you Mr. President for not denying that

Breaking News..... Do you know that the former CJN was part of the Dubai evil gathering ?? He was paid upfront in order to do the bidding of PDP after they must have lost the election and lodged complain before the Court.

Onnonghen promised PDP that he will constitute Tribunal Judges that will be favourable to PDP where he will stand for them in the Apex Court and will grant them dubious victory in the Supreme Court afterwards.. The Money we heard was paid by SARAKI's aides on three different instalment and in dollars.

The date which the money was Paid was transmitted to the Presidency by top security personals..

-Now You know why the tainted Thief was booted out from his Seat by Sai BABA.

-Now You know why PDP are completely demoralised to the point of suspending their Campaigns

-Now You know why we Buharists are happy and mocking them.

- Now You know that the Dubai Evil gathering strategy has been exposed and condemned to nothing.

Have any of us seen Buhari asset declaration form is it not wrong to hide his asset declaration form being a public officer? He should make it public so that those who knows his assets can ascertain if he included all in his form.

Those that will not vote Buhari in February 2019 Presidential election and their reasons:

1. Shitte Muslims because of the wanton and reckless massacre and incarceration of their members by Buhari government;

2. Reasonable Nigerians who can see that Buhari is taking Nigeria to nowhere. Instead of taking the country to Canaan, Buhari (Actually the Cabal) is taking Nigeria to the deepest dungeon in the farthest part of wilderness;

3. North Central States because Buhari has been protecting and defending Fulani Killer Herdsmen that has been killing them, raping them and Snatching their ancestral lands;

4. Southeast States because Buhari called them 5% and arrogantly marginalised them by by conspicuously neglecting their region. Buhari also massacred their sons when he transformed to python;

5. Southsouth States because Buhari called them 5% and refused to site a single federal project in the region. The abandoned Ogoni clean up comes to mind;

6. Reasonable Southwest individuals who wants the good and progress of Nigeria and does not ass lick Tinubu and can clearly see that Buhari is a yoyo being teleguided by a selfish cabal!

7. Reasonable Muslims who cherish the unity of Nigeria and have seen the divisive, clanish and nepotistic government of Buhari;

9. Over 9 Million youths that lost their jobs since 2015. To add salt to injury, Buhari insulted these youths by calling them lazy;

10. Nigerian women whom Buhari dispised and stubbornly refused to integrate into his government. Buhari also demeaned Nigerian women by blabbing that they belong to the kitchen and the other room!!

11. Real Christians who can see that Buhari's government emanated from the pit of hell!

You can tell a man is mischievous when he keeps digressing.

This issue is about Onnoghen not Dasuki or Evans.

The CCT would never listen to any court, especially one of equal jurisdiction, on something the supreme court had ruled on before.

Coincidentally, the same Onnoghen gave the verdict suggesting the CCT is the highest court when it comes to issues concerning code of conduct.

Onnoghen was misled by pdp. He should have took path of honour and resign. but wanted to use his position to dribble and escape justice just like typical nigerian politician. His actions betrays the trust vested on his position as the custodian of the law.
He hurriedly pick and want to swear in tribunal judges that will do his bidings. He suspend NJC meeting indefinetly for the fear of being suspended by NJC .he his not fit to sit on that position again.
He can now offically pick up pdp membership card since that his where his heart his.
