Buhari can only win if he massively rigs the elections and the crisis that would throw up would threaten the whole existence of Nigeria.
SS and SE are fully for Atiku.
Atiku would also win the Middle Belt maybe with a smaller margin.
Kano that was APC's joker has been massively eroded by Kwankwaso rooting for Atiku,so maybe 50:50.
Lagos may also go Atiku's way or at worse 50:50 because of the Agberos that would be coerced to vote APC.
The North West in a free fair election would be even with Buhari winning in the NorthEast but with smaller margin than the tsunami he had against GEJ.
So how can Buhari defeat Atiku in any free fair election? It's impossible.

with this your maybe there is no how Atiku can defeat Buhari, your assumption maybe has no revelation in the modern reality of politics

just wait till Feb 16. Atiku party that has no Political structure again in west will get 50% in west? it's easier for Buhari to win east and south than Atiku winning west

oseremhe:
for those already enmeshed in the pool of ecstasy and hypnotic delirium as a result of this fake news.

sorry to disappoint you, here is the real story.

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has described the recent “endorsement” by The Economist of London, of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, party, Muhammadu Buhari, in the coming election as scandalous and partisan.

In one of its recent reports, The Economist of London had predicted that President Muhammadu Buhari will win next year’s election.

According to The Economist in its latest edition, “The World in 2019”, there is little hope that Islamist insurgency in the Northeast will end.

In a country appraisal for Nigeria under “The world in numbers”, the magazine said: “The president, Muhammadu Buhari, will win re-election in February, as a new opposition coalition may collapse before the vote.

However, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication , Mr. Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described “as a poorly-executed hatchet job, the prediction by The Economist of London, in which the magazine put on the garb of a partisan and made no pretenses to professionalism while predicting that President Muhammadu Buhari will win next year’s poll.”

He said, on Monday, that “with the tacit endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term, in its current edition, the erstwhile influential news magazine has hit a new low by throwing all pretenses to the wind to take up the job of presidential spokespersons.”

“It is common knowledge that the Economist’s fortunes have taken a nosedive in recent months with its flip- flop on issues especially as it pertains the upcoming presidential election in Nigeria. But the magazine hit a new low in its current edition, ‘The World in 2019,’ where it made projections of issues and events that will shape the year 2019 across many countries including Nigeria,”

Shaibu said “even if the All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokespersons had written that story, it could not have been so recklessly partisan and so devoid of any shred of professionalism.”

According to him, “the so-called story which says, ‘the president, Muhammadu Buhari, will win re-election in February, as a new opposition coalition may collapse before the vote’ fails to meet the attributes of objectivity, balance and fairness.”

The Atiku spokesperson said “it was scandalous that the magazine went ahead to predict a victory for the APC candidate even when it said a Buhari’s second coming portends disaster for Nigeria.”

Please note that the world in 2019 was probably ready by September 2018 and therefore anyone thinking its prediction should be taken 100% as given is just being idealistic. Atiku hadn't even won the PDP primaries by then

The EIU is more accurate based on more recent events.

Please note that the Economists says it has it is and not even stating its own opinion

Yes, the Economist did say another term for Buhari will be a disaster but if they see a win for him, then a win for him is what they will write

I will be very honest with you the chances for an Atiku win are not as dim as they look or are as buoyant for Buhari

The Northerners voted passionately for Buhari in 2015 coming out in record numbers (don't forget child voting was also involved).

A lot of that passion is gone as he didn't deliver the goods but rather the opposite to a large extentv Rather than 3m jobs yearly 11m lost their jobs. Prices of goods have almost doubled and things are hard.

Truth is that he has lost a lot of goodwill and I doubt anything close to the record turnout he experienced in 2015 will occur this time. Also in a recent election held in the North, there was zero room for underaged voters). This 2 issues alone will lead to the loss of close to a million votes if not more

Another is that whether we like it or not Atiku has made inroads in the North so he is going to get lots of votes in the North. These votes may not mean a win for him there but will greatly improve his chances of victory. In a place like Kaduna the divisive Elrufai will help Atiku garner massive votes.

In the Middle Belt Atiku, will probably grab all (Benue may be a holdout because of Ortoms performance).

Yorubaland seems to be Buhari's. Buhari's infrastructure projects have won the hearts of many Yoruba's and they like his principled nature. Also Atiku campaign here was weak. Yoruba's need to be convinced he'll perform but many see him as very corrupt and many equate it with poor governance and regression.

For the South South and South East they are basically Atiku's

The only way Atiku can win is if voters turnout in key Buhari's states is much lower and child voting stamped out coupled with him capturing lots of votes there will help determined whether he'll win. A clear win is assured however if he can win some key Buhari strongholds in the North (this may be a stretch) as well or if voters turnout in the Southeast and Southsouth are larger than usual.

As atiku has made inroads up north, buhari has made even more down south.he has even more hardened and die hard soldiers to whittle down ss,se votes.you cant say the middle belt will go to atiku,no evidence suggest this.intact, they suggest that it will narrowly go to buhari.
The biggest mistake of atiku is taking ss,se for granted, thinking he will get bloc votes here.a lot are happening in ss that will damage atiku.even in my state, the apc are moving dangerously in cross river.the weapons pdp usually used to win polls are lacking.
In south south for example, elections in are usually won based on the number of top chieftsins a particular lga has.any local government where apc has warlords than pdp,it goes to them.there 5 of such lgas.people rarely decide elections here independently, there are moved by money or these personalities.

You do have a point. However I sense that in states where Buhari has made inroads in the South south or Southeast the best he can expect is that of Imo state in 2015 where he scored 19% of the votes compared with barely 5% in other Igbo states. This must have been due to the inroads made by Okorocha and that Imo was APC

Forget imo.okorocha wont do much,it will be mainly due to the rigging prowess of uzodinma and added support from uwajumogu and nwosu that will get buhari 25% plus pdp in imo is weaker without the support of federal might, apga, araraume.ihedioha is alone.
Am looking at how elections are conducted here.where apc has made more inroads is akwa ibom, rivers, delta central and south, cross river central, anambra north,,abia north etc which all produce heavy votes in the past for pdp.for atiku to win,he must poll at least 4.5 million in rivers, delta and akwa ibom with apc scoring less than 300k which is impossible.

Give and take 90%
Their prediction is wrong, how can they say southerners always vote PDP. It is the same calculation of Jonathan, all appointments went to SS and SE in camouflage of southern appointments which eventually backfired, same thing will backfire this sponsored prediction.
Mark it, Atiku will lead only in 13 states.

Atiku cant get up to what gej got.gej got over 90% in ss,se,atiku wont get more than 80%.plus inec have put in more measures to checkmate rigging.this would affect mostly pdp areas where inflations are rife.if care is not taken,he will win only the south east

If there is no rigging, it looks so to me too. But since the ruling party and Buhari are already importing voters from Chad and Niger with the affiliations with governers from those countries, Buhari might hold on to power. They know how to rig elections from the north. Buhari himself knows he can never win SS and SE. Infact, he is nothing in SE. And he relies on Jagaban for SW (why he has recently made Jagaban the other god in the ruling party apart from him, but Asiwaju will be dumped again after election). While in the north, he relies on massive rigging. How can he win? Atiku delivered Adamawa to him the last time. Kwankwoso is going to rip apart Kano this time. Sokoto is in the hands of the present governor and it was why they tried using money to lure him to their party. Well, Buhari still has his domains too. Katsina is his, and Kaduna seems to be his. Shehu Sanni is just a noise maker in that Kaduna, and he is a loser already, I do not see him returning to the senate.

To be honest, Atiku looks good to win this election. Though, he is not my favorite candidate but it seems he is better than Buhari. The truth is Buhari has lost it. He is a shadow of himself. Buhari is just a smart man to choose a career that paved way for him. Actually, he is not that intelligent. And he is always smart to pick excellent deputies. Tunde Idiagbon in 1983. He has used Tunde Bakare (that radical, extremely intelligent, fearless and brilliant lawyer, and now Prof Yemi Osinbajo). The vices are always the idea maufacturing department in his organisations, and he has his own carcus (northern men) to execute the ideas. This has always been Buhari's style. It is the reason IBB does not respect him. IBB always call him self righteous man. Lol. And OBJ himself knows that Buhari is not sound when it comes to brain tasking assignments. He is not sound. So, I wonder who sent him to learn military strategies in the US. Lol. Maybe his specialty is to use strategy to kill. Kill enemies. Anyone who is regarded as the enemy must be exterminated. Lol!

Almost perfect analysis by the Economist Magazine.
