Episode 15

I informed simi and my spirit friend dotun about my plan. And they both promise to be on a look out.
The next day, I clad myself on a black jean and a black t-shirt. I put on my black face cap and my sun shade. I won't need my pistol but I take it along anyway in case of "incasity".
I asked her to meet me around 1pm. but I waited till around 2:30 before showing up. I have to be sure she's alone.
I entered the chicken republic, I saw her sitting closely to the window.
I saw an empty chair opposite to her, so I sat on it then requested for a chill cola. I was there for about 10 minutes surveying the atmosphere. I can see simi sitting on one of the chair and dotun was standing right behind me. After am sure everything is in other then I turn to her. She was shocked to see me. Its just as if she see a ghost.

She: I thought you were dead.

Me: yes I am.

**** she wanted to scream but I systematic point my gun at her****

Me: I won't hurt you, but if you provoke me, I will definitely use my gun. Understood?

She: yes sir.

Me: all I want from you is very simple.

She: wha..a..a..at?

Me: I know who you are working for.

She: who?

Me: don't play smart with me!!.

She: okay sir.

Me: I want you to switch side and start working for me now.

She: how do you mean?

Me: I know you are working for black jagaban. The leader of "black eagle". Ain't you?

She: yes I am sir.

Me: very good. I want to bring him to justice, and I want you to help me do that.

She: am not sure if I can do that, he is very powerful, he have a lot of charm. He will definitely know when I switch sides.

Me: you don't have to worry about that. His charm only works on mortals. Am a spirit. I belong to the dead world.

She: so what should I do now.

Me: I want you to be my spy. Bring me every necessary information that will definitely bring him behind bars.

She: ok... But how will I contact you.

Me: I will contact you.

*** I quickly signal to dotun to read her mind. After some minute he said to me that she's planing in her mind to tell black jagaban of our conversation***

Me: do you realize you are speaking with a spirit. I can read your mind. You tell anything to jagaban and you are dead before dawn. The choice is yours.
I guess she didn't see that coming. I finished my cola then take my leave.

it took a lot of self restrain for me not to have burst out laughing when dotun said.

"spirit indeed. Na only your spirit, I see wey dey drink Coca-Cola "

I got home around 4pm I checked my phone and I see 41 missed calls. I checked it, 40 were from clara and the remaining one was from Grace.
My heart skiped a beat when I saw the missed call from grace. I quickly call her back and she picked on the first dail.

Me: hello grace

She: hello

Me: how have you been? You got me worried.

She: am okay

*** after the normal talks then I shifted the conversation to "hitting the nail on the head"***

Me: grace, I want you to know that you have been my source of joy, but lately I have been having a troubled mind. All my thought are on you. I can't concentrate anymore. And I meant all I said to you the last time we talked. I love you grace, I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

*** she didn't answer, instead I heard her sobing***

Me: please why are you crying, have I said anything that hurt you?.

She: Ay we can't be together. I have my reasons and my reasons are known to me.

Me: is it about the age difference? I certainly don't mind.

She: ayo you can't understand .

Me: then make me understand .or do you have someone you are dating.

She: no...

Me: so what's holding you back then. Say yes and let me be the happiest guy on earth.

She: I can't say yes.

Then she ended the call. I called her back but her line was off.
The love I have for this girl was so great, it can't be measured by any instrument. The inter molecular force that hold my love for her was far greater that meltalic bonding.

Now am in full control of nurse titi, she started providing me all the evidence I needed in bringing black jagaban behind bars. But I still need a very rigid one, cos I know once black jagaban is being arrested every other members will follow suite.

I was under the mango tree, my regular spot with dotun. We were both having some conversation when I spotted juliet. I waved at her and she advanced towards our direction.
She greeted me ignoring dotun. Am sure she don't want people to think that she's also mad like me.
She warned me to stay away from dotun.

"spirit are very dangerous , they are capable of a lot of things you don't know" She said.


"well juliet, friendship is base on trust and that man over there, I trust him, even if he's dead." I said. She tried to convince me, but I hold still on my defense.

She later joined the conversation. We get along so easily and she promise to pay me a visit one day.
I left the mango tree and head to the library. I met clara on my way.


"Ayo where have you been, I have searched everywhere for you" .she said.

One thing about clara, I never for once imagine she can change totally like that. I began to like her somehow, but I still hate her the most. I didn't tell her any of my secret, Even though she has reveal every of her secret to me and also her flaws.
I can't say that am having feelings for her, But she's a kind of girl to be cherished with love.
I asked about her boyfriend and she told me her break up story. Its touching though. Well I didn't have a break up story or stories, I have always been a bad boy.

Days passed, and things goes as I planned.

Samson called me one afternoon saying that clara is being admitted at the school health center.
I quickly drop all am doing I raced to the school health center.
When I got there I saw nurse titi attending to an ill person. I gave her a wink then head to clara ward.
I saw her drinking gari, she once told me gari isn't a food for the poor.

"How are you dear, I rush down here as soon as I receive the call from samson about you being admitted" I said.

"That's so sweet of you dear, its just a malaria fever and am getting better" she said.

"get well soon dear " I said.

"I can get well now only if you promise to take me on a date " she said with a baby grin. I smile before replying her.

"it's seems that gari is alcoholic, cos you are saying rubbish. Don't worry, I will fix you with John. He's huge" I replied.

Not long a doctor came in, he looks familiar but I didn't recall where I know him. Then all of a sudden I heard him saying

"hey its good to see you again, and you left the other day without dropping your contact" the doctor said. Now I remember him, he was the doctor that spoke with me the night I brought clara to the hospital. I started giving him signal to stop talking but before I could stop him, he has already called a spade a spade.

" Clara how did you meet him? I thought you said you are still looking for him? he was the guy that brought you here the day you were attacked" he said looking at clara.

"Oh shit!!! " I muttered.
My gaze met with clara, I can see some cloud of tears forming in her eyes.

"Ayo is it true? Are you the one I have been searching for... all this while?" she asked with tears rolling down her eyes. I didn't know what to say to her, so I just remain quite.

" say something!!! Are you the one? " she asked as she hold my hand tightly

"he's the one Clara, I'm very sure about it, so he didn't tell you? " the doctor asked, then he looked into my eyes for an answer.

"will you shut up, son of a thousand pigs" I muttered silently to myself .

I was still thinking of what to say when simi came in with a speed.

"Ayo, can I see you for a minute " she said, as she tried to catch her breath. I followed her, then she stopped me at a corner.

" you got two tails, two guys are outside the health center gate, well armed. Their instruction is to shoot you on sight " she said.

"bull shit!!! Why didn't I suspect " I threw the question to myself.

"so how are you going to escape this danger " she asked with alot of fear.

" I don't know... just stay here and wait " I said, then I head to meet Samson and John.

" Two guys are outside the gate armed with a gun, they are here to kill...are you gonna let that happen?" I asked With my eyes on the two of them.

"go stay with Clara and leave those fools to us, we ain't train to babysit...the boring day is just about getting interest " Samson said and watched as the two of them remove a pistol.

"are you going to shoot them?" I asked Surprisely.

"No, our gun is met for protection, " John replied swiftly.

"so... What are you going to do? " I found myself asking again.

" we are going to break all their bones, in a way that they will prefer to die " Samson replied.

"sweet hell!!! I would love to watch " I said.

Love is the beautiful thing that ever happened to me, and the most horrendous thing you could possibly desire.

I began wondering if am really dead or not, I can't believe am being presumed dead by Clara. Who the hell cook up a dead story to her, that was the question I couldn't answer at that particular moment. I was in the middle of a great confusion, I battled with my thought to know who could be behind 'their father' death story but my mind wouldn't reveal them to me.
I move closer to her and touch her shoulder.

" Am not dead Clara, I never was. who fake my death to you? " I asked.
Her eyes were filled with tears, she wanted to say something but tears came running instead. I hug her and she hug me back more tightly.

" I will never lose you again Clara " I whispered softly into her ear.

"Am sorry ayo, its hurt me to say this but am getting married soon this is my wedding invitation, I have to go now my fiance is waiting for me in the car. He seems uncomfortable seeing us both together. Have my contact and address call me whenever you want " she said then she moved away.



I got home and I couldn't wait to inform Julliet about what happened. Immediately I got home, I called her line but it was off, so I leave a message for her.
Opeyemi is back home on a semester break so I descended my curiosity on her , filling up her head with Clara .

" Opeyemi you won't believe it, I saw Clara today at a supermarket " I said.

"Who is Clara? " She asked as if she's just hearing the name.

" Kate Perry ni, so you've have forgotten about Clara ? big head! . The one I do tell you about everyday " I replied.

"Oh that's true, I thought she's in UK with her husband , when did she return? "she asked.

" yea, I also don't know when, but she's yet to be married, she gave me her wedding invitation today, the wedding is to be hold in a month time. " I replied , showing her the invitation card Clara gave me. She collected it from me then scratch her head as if she's thinking of something.

" this is a good news" she said with a smile.

" what did you mean? So I should be jumping and dancing because she's getting married? Insted of you to advice me on the type of river I will go and jump into, you are there saying rubbish...

" no brother, that's not what I mean, you are even the one saying rubbish. Since she's yet to be betrothed, you can still have her" she said putting on a childish grin � this time around.

" no way that's going to happen, someone who is to be affiance in a month time, that can't work, have quit doing crazy things " I replied. She stand up walk up and down the living room before replying me back.

" you know what brother, this woman is meant for you and no one else, I know you love her so much and I feel she love you even more than you do. If this woman will be the only one to bring joy into your heart. Then am going to make sure she's yours. With your help or without your help. " she said. I look at her for a moment, secretly I wish what she said can come true, but the probability seems too low

" opeyemi have you been drinking? Look am starving what did you cook? " I said, trying to end up the conversation .

After that day, I observe some certain changes in opeyemi, like going out very early as 4am in the morning with my car and returning very late in the evening. I know she's up to something, but I just don't know what it is.

I called Clara one afternoon and I ask her if she can spare some time with me out. She accepted without hesitation.
We meet at an eatery where she narrated how she received a message that I died in a car accident.

" Ayo am sorry, that I didn't investigate the news very well, when I got the news that you are dead, i felt the world was over for me. A world without you is nothing ... After so many years, I was being pressured by my parent to move on and get married saying you can't come back from death to marry me. Am sorry I didn't have a choice... And I pray you find happiness in another woman " she said.

I shifted my gaze away from her, its hurt to hear something like that, I wonder who deceived her. With the way she talks am sure she still love me, I slowly raise my head up to say something but my eyes met directly with hers. I can see love and regret written on her face. I shifted my head and my lips met with hers. The kiss was short, but it was my best so far. She disengage her lips from mine and run out of the eatry with tears in her eyes. I run after her trying to stop her, but she hurriedly enter her car and zoom off.

" I'm sorry Clara " I muttered silently.

I got home late in the evening not knowing how or what to feel. I met opeyemi in the living room watching movie.

" hello sister, you are back, how was your day? " I asked trying to cover my mood. She look directly at me, I'm certainly not good at hiding things especially away from her.

" brother you look depress but don't worry I got some news for you that will surely put a smile on your face" she said, giving me a wink.

"I'm all ears "I replied showing little concern.

" Well,well,well its about your woman Clara" she said. on hearing this I rapidly sit up and focus all my attention on her.

" well I have been doing some investigation lately and I found to my dismay that Clara fiance is behind all of this, including faking your death to Clara just to win her for himself. That's not all, he's marrying Clara not because of love but because of the fact that her dad is wealthy. I have been monitoring his movement lately and I found out that he do smuggle drugs. I have a picture and video evidence for that. To make it more interesting, he's into human trafficking, And the worst part of it... You wouldn't believe me if I tell you that he's the same guy you caught with sister grace some years ago." she said.
I hardly believe my ears, so Clara is going to get married to a monster, a criminal to be precise. I shifted my attention to opeyemi

" This guy want to finish my career ni sha, he must definitely be the one that sent me a message using Clara line. How did you know all this? " I asked with so much curiosity.

" well I didn't do it all by myself, I actually did it with a help of a sister, she's here, will you like to meet her? " she asked.

" of cos why won't I" I replied back.
I screamed my head off when I see the person. Its no one but Simi. My spy girl back then in the university. I jumped up and carry her up.

" Simi is this you!!! , am very happy to see you again, opeyemi how did you meet her?" I asked shifting my attentions to her.

" you don't need to worry about that, you got someone to worry more about right now " says a voice behind me, I slowly turn back only to see Juliet standing behind me.

" Juliet don't tell me you also know about this? " I asked wearing a smile.

"me too I'm also here " that came from mercy tiny voice.

" like I said you got someone to worry more about and that's Clara, will you now fold your arms and watch her get married to that criminal. You have to do something about it. " julliet said.

" yes I actually have to do something. Am not going to let Clara marry that devil " I said.

" leave that devil to barrister simi she will make sure he rock in jail. " and that's another surprise for me.

" simi is now a barrister ? this is just too wonderful " I said then I mention them closer and we both hug. Just has we disengaged from the hug. Mercy tiny voice came forward like a commando.

" I have a plan " she said.

" really? What is it? " we echoed.

***** ****** ****** ***** ****** ***** *******

The wedding day finally arrived, My Clara is getting married, well I have been waiting impatiently for that day. I dressed in an English outfit as if am the best man. I sat among the congregation following up every aspect of the ceremony. When they got to the praise and worship section, I danced more than anyone there could. And finally they got to the aspect I've been waiting patiently for.

" if there's anyone here who does not support the union of Clara and Goke that person should kindly stand up or remain silent Forever " the priest annouced.
I looked both my right and left then I slowly stand up . I can hear everyone humming, but I certainly don't care, I walk majestically to the alter, I collected the micro phone from the priest and signal to opeyemi and mercy to put on the projector we secretly placed in the church.
She projected a vedio showing Goke smuggling and also inhaling hard drugs, then it shows a picture that expose his human trafficking act. Not long two police men entered and handcuffs him. But I asked them not to take him away yet that I want him to witness something I wouldn't want him to miss. I turned back and face the congregation, I can see that I have cos alot of commotion. Well that's exactly what I want.

" one house please!!!" mercy tiny voice shouted using a micro phone. Everyone went silent when they heard her voice, Then I focus my attention on Clara, I can see tears forming in her eyes. I kneel down before her and look directly into her eyes.

" Clara am sorry, I was foolish not to realize how much you really love me. I was in total darkness of a fake love, you tried to draw me into the light but I turn deaf ear to all your callings. I learnt my lesson in a very hard way...
Clara I wanna tell you that, you are still the woman I love. I know you never stop loving me, even when my death is being fake to you. I love you still the same Clara. My heart always seek for you.
I love you with all of my heart, body ,and soul. You complete me. You make my life worth living. To have known you and to have loved you has been the most beautiful dream, I can only hope that I never wake up from.
I can't promise to solve all your problems, but I can promise you won't have to face them alone.
Clara... Will you be my lady?
You dont have a choice then, but you do have a choice now.
Clara... Will you marry me? " I proposed.

Everywhere was silent, then all of a sudden I heard

" Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! I will marry you". She screamed out happily. I slowly bring out a ring and then wear it in her hand.

"That was the unromantic proposal any lady has ever received". Says the priest.

" please pronounce them husband and wife Jor" Mercy tiny voice shouted loudy to the priest. But the priest didn't answer her.

And right there in front of anyone who cares to look... We kissed.


We got married after a month, and it was the talk of the town, cos our wedding happens to be the best wedding ever.

Opeyemi graduated as a medical doctor that same year and it was another great joy for me. On her graduation day, I gave her the letter Dotun requested me to give her. Tears rolled down her eyes as she read the latter. Am sure she must have miss him. Then I give her another letter which is from me. A letter from another brother.

" congratulation to you Dr Opeyemi, please forgive me for keeping your brother message from you this long, and sorry for not telling you that your brother was my best friend. I hope you will forgive me. Down there inside this letter envelop is a check of 30 million and a viser ticket for you. By the time you will be back from abroad your hospital will be waiting for you. I love you so much sister. "
She run towards me and hug me passionately.

"thank you brother, you have done so much for me that I can't repay. I was nothing but I'm something today because of you. You are not just my brother, but my saviour. Thank you so much my brother " she said.

"You are welcome... Dr Opeyemi " I replied.

The following year Clara gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. And I named him after Dotun.

All is well that ends well.

Episode 12

There's a Yoruba adage that says ' ti omode ba de ibi eru, eru a ba'

I was shaking from head to toe, Totally terrified. I began begging for my life.

"Please dot-man you don't have to do this, it don't have to be in this way, please don't kill me" I said with a shaking voice.

He slowly put the pistol down and sat lowly on the floor.

" If I didn't kill you now, they will all come for my head tomorrow morning, but I can't kill you,i can't bite the finger that feed me... I owe you my sister life". He said. I was shocked when I heard that, I didn't know his sister, I was still trying to figure out what he meant when he cut in my thought.

"The money you gave me was used to save my sister life and not for my school fee, I lied to you about that. My sister was in the hospital then, and we were asked to bring a sum of seventy thousand naira, I was able to raise Twenty out of it, and you helped me with the remaining Fifty. For this I'm forever great full to you. (What goes around comes around) now I want you to run away from school for a whole month, that's all I can do for you now" he said. I didn't know when tears began to roll down my eyes. I know his life is now at risk just because of me, but I know the danger involve if I stay in the school.

I quickly pack few things and head to osun. That night I got to ife. I have a friend studying medicine at OAU, so I explained everything to him and he accommodated me.


After 2 weeks of my departure from school. I heard that Dotun was murdered. I couldn't eat for days. I felt so guilty as if am the one that kill him. I wept bitterly for him. He sacrificed his life for me. I began regretting my actions, I regretted ever helping clara. I regretted not allowing myself to be killed.
Dotun death affected me alot, I couldn't think of anything but of his death, I felt a heavy burden on me, I never for once imagine someone will die for my sake.
It was doing this time that I remember what a nurse said to me the day I brought clara to the hospital. She said I won't live to tell the story. Now her words started making sense to me. She knew everything about the incidence, definitely by my calculation, she will be among the cult group. She will probably be the one that took my phone and I D card when I was unconscious. Now I have a target, I will definitely make sure she pay for what she did and also to avenge Dotun death.


BACK AT SCHOOL

Now am on a revenge mission. I got myself a black face cap and a sun shade to cover my eyes, also I changed my hair style. I must not be identify easily.

I worked on getting a spy, and luckily I found one.
Her name is simi, She belongs to the man no war association, and also she is an excellent tracker. She supply me with every information I needed. I was given the profile of all the cult member. They were 20 in number. They also have an outsider that works for them.
And that nurse is among them. No one could suspect her.
According to the information given to me by simi. Her name is nurse titi. And she lives outside the school with her husband.
I later investigated on clara incidence. And I found out that the leader of the cult was responsible for her attack. Investigating more on the matter reveals to me that. He sent his boys to kill her just because she fails to accept his proposal. That's totally absurd.
I also investigated on Dotun. I found out that he was shot my three gun men repeatedly. Their profile was also given to me. Their nick names are dragon, terminator and obekun. I was given their location and hide out as well.

They have pushed my boar against the wall, and I'm ready to face them.
I don't want to involve the police in the matter cos I know they will definitely bribe them,and it will later fall back on me . So I will have to put justice in my hand, and I planned terminating all of them from the newly recruit to the leader.
I know I will need a gun since my enemies are sort of manchineries.
Getting a gun was quite difficult, but I was able to get a pistol gun after alot of effort. I also got myself a hard drugs, being desperate was part of something I needed.

My first target was nurse titi. I monitored her movement for some weeks, doing this period I found out that she was cheating on her husband. She have a student boyfriend She do visit after she close from work. And this only makes it more interesting.

I followed her after she closed from work one day, and she led me to her boyfriend place.
she didn't notice that I was after her. Not long after she enters In with his boyfriend. I waited for them to enter bleeping mode them I bang inside. I met both of them naked on the bed. I pointed my gun at them. They started begging for their life.

My intentions was to kill her, as I was about to pull the trigger, I saw the ghost of Dotun like a visual illusion. I saw blood dripping down is face, he looked at me then he wave his head. Then he later disappear.
I couldn't understand the scene.

" Did I just see a ghost or is it my imagination? " I thought loudly to myself. I couldn't decide my mind, so I change my plans from killing her.
I brought out my phone and took their naked pictures, after that I put the phone in video mode, then I asked them to be bleeping themselves or I will shoot them if they don't. They both oblige and I made a porn video of them.

"Well if I can't kill you. I will have to use something against you" I said to myself as I exit the room.

On my way back I saw someone sitting on a rock wearing a white cloth. That reminded me of Dotun ghost I saw earlier on. I was about crossing the road when the person turns towards me.

I heard the person calling my name so I turn back and to my greatest surprise . There sitted Dotun.
I wondered why am not scared probably because of the hard drugs I used. I approached him.

" Who are you?" I asked with a brave voice.

"I'm Dotun'. He replied.

"don't play pranks with me, the dotun I know of is dead."I shouted back at him.

" I know, you are talking to a spirit not a man. Only you can see me and that's because I want you to, no one else can, except does with the gift"He said.
That brought a fear down my spine. That Sentence deactivated all the drugs I used, as I began to tremble, but I still try to maintain my stand.

"Don't be afraid of me am not here to hurt you"he said
I remain mute I didn't answer him.

"Do not dip your hand in blood my friend"he said then he disappeared. I looked around,but he was already gone.

"I'm sorry... it's too late for that, I'm not going to dip just my hand in their blood... I'm ready to swim deep into their blood, the battle line has been drawn and there's no going back " I said then I head back to my hiding place.
