According to Hon Jeff Ojinika on Channels TV last night, d amended electoral act that Buhari declined assent prescribes max of 5yrs imprisonment after arrest n prosecution for ballot box snatchers. Currently d electoral act prescribes max of 24 months for same offence. My worry in all these is why didn't Buhari sign d electoral act sent to him which would have given us d latitude for more punitive actions against electoral offenders. An offence which punishment is 24 months imprisonment is now death sentence whereas terrorists Boko Haram who deserve summarily execution are being pardoned and given amnesty. For those masturbating over this draconian order of dragging d military into election I have this for u
1. There is what is called stray bullet
2. Most persons will avoid coming out for fear of death leading to voter apathy
3. Our overzealous security personnel will definitely turn a blind eye where it favours APC and go full speed in PDP controlled territories
4. Govt sponsored fake army uniformed men might be on hand that day to do d snatching and kill innocent people and tag them snatchers
5. Snatching starts cos d touts wants to accomplish d task given to them by politicians as Tinubu directed win ur booth come for huge money

And your so called stray bullet can't come from the barrel of a thug's gun?

And overzealous ballot snatcher won't overdo things to favour his pay masters?

And many other concerns that exposed your hypocrisy.

Buhari showing his true color because he said he will punish anyone who tries to steal people's mandate? Are ballot box snatchers not worse than murderers? Even I supposedly think the president should have said he would gas those electoral fraudsters to death. This shows clearly that PDP has no other way but to snatch ballot boxes in this forthcoming presidential election. Electoral fraud of this magnitude deserves more than capital punishment.

There is nothing wrong in what Baba said, Atiku should look for something else to say. Baba till 2023.

This is just the truth as destroyed/stolen ballot boxes in polling units have always been cancelled and if the margin win is less than cancelled votes, elections are re-conducted there ... moreover it's the job of the police to arrest such person.

Why should the president give the security forces a reason to shoot and an excuse to get away from it.

And you didn't reflect on the carnage, damages & ruins these thugs leave in their wake after any successful ballot snatching episode. How many ballot snatcher do so with bread, indomie & bare hands? These guys are usually armed & dangerous & have been having field days all these years. Now a more serious person has read the riot act to them, you're still not satisfied. What do you really want?

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, yesterday said President Muhammadu Buhari was showing his “true colours and complete disregard for the constitution” by saying ballot boxes’ snatchers would be doing so at the expense of their lives.

Atiku, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said threatening people with death in the context of an election “is incitement to electoral violence.”

Atiku, who kicked against the plan to deploy soldiers for the 2019 general elections, describing it as an anomaly in democracy, also condemned alleged “intimidation tactics of the Federal Government.

Responding to Buhari’s remark that the military and the police had been directed to be ruthless at ballot boxes’ snatchers, Atiku said deployment of troops “creates an atmosphere of warfare, which in turn heats up the polity, which is why it is not a common occurrence in other climes during elections.”

He also kicked against alleged “arrest of perceived members of the opposition ahead of elections,” describing it as anti-democratic.

“We were shocked to hear General Buhari live on national television threatening to kill people for an offense where no such proscription exists under law. The last time we looked, the death-penalty was not a sanction of the 2010 Election Act. In fact, threatening people with death in the context of an election is incitement to electoral violence, which is an offense under that Act,” he said.

He said he was not surprised that such a remark was coming from “the leader of a political party that has threatened that foreigners who intervene in the forthcoming elections should be sent home in body bags.

“The reason the APC-controlled federal government will want to deploy the military is not to stem the rising cases of violence, but for the simple reason that the APC wants to use the military to intimidate the opposition and pave the way for rigging.

“Once again, General Buhari is showing his true colours and completedisregard for our constitution and the laws of this country. He is getting confused with when he was President under military rule. His fig leaf of being a ‘reformed democrat’ has been blown away by this latest statement leaving his democratic credentials as naked as the day he was born.”

Atiku recalled that during his interview on “The Candidates” last month, he had hinted of the establishment of the Electoral Fraud Commission to deal, in line the laws of the land, with matters relating to electoral offences.

Whatever happened to arrest and prosecution, why turn the polling unit into a war zone despite being filled with hundreds of innocent people?

You absolutely made alot of valid point there.

But next time you're giving your opinion, avoid tagging people who have nothing to do with the subject. I do not see where Tinubu ever said "Snatch your polling booth and receive huge money". Not for anything tho,but for the interest of sane people like us who will be looking for a valid and unbiased view on the subject matter.

Thanks.

Your party is crying wolf because it's no more going to be business as usual, PDP as a party know that ballot box snatching and rigging machinery is part of them,no more millions of votes coming from the south east and South south,if your party will be civil and all party play by the rules,I see no reason why Atiku should be worried, it's those who have skeleton in their cupboards that will surely be afraid

Stop typing rubbish online , nigeria law is absolute rubbish meant to punish only a common man.
A lot of nigerians are happy with buhari directives becos most of us are not kids we witness so much elections to know political thugs are ruthless & donnt fear been arrested or prosecuted ...there is just to disrupt , there politicians will get them bail with just a phone call ....naa today how many thugs fear or detest prison . A warning like these is only what can keep the election peaceful, come this 23rd people will be so well behave & co ordinated.
All those things you listed above are just to creat unnecessary worries , using the masses as concern to defend a criminal act wonnt work ... we support buhari, did you see how happy aishat was that was how most nigerians were happy yestidae ,we voted GMB not PMB ...becos nigeria needs a iron hand not the please stop making noise naw type of govt.

He has done everything wrong!!..this is democracy were the rule of law should reign supreme..You lots who have no political stake but simply supporters are not seeing the bigger picture and do not understand the danger you are supporting..

Going by the antecedents of buhari, you as a citizen is not exempted from being shot on sight due to some trumped on charges as you vote on saturday..or dont you realise that...

Buhari should have signed the electoral law then enjoin INEC to conduct a FREE AND FAIR electiins which i want desperately support, not this threat of bloodshed which like his useless "kwarapshan pyth" know how it will end.
