IT was a quintessential Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who chaired the opening occasion of the Global Conference of Black Nationalities, last Monday in Osogbo, Osun state. The former President of Nigeria was in his intellectual elements as he appraised the current status of the Black race to the gathering of some of the most erudite brains in African and African American studies.

Speaking ex-tempore in his opening remark, Obasanjo observed that the contemporary world appears to have been structured to keep the Black race perpetually under but no black man should accept that. “When they tell you that you are nothing because you are black. Tell them no. When they tell you that you must do everything according to their own standards because you are black, tell them that is not acceptable, All my live I have committed myself to rejecting that lie and kicking strongly against it, We are black people, we have our own values and pride, The so called international standard which they use to excude us is one thing I have remained resolutely against because we have our own standards and as long as it is for the general good of our people, that is my standard, let no one intimidate us with his said international standard,” Obasanjo advocated to a loudly cheering hall full of several delegates from several African countries, the Carribbeans, USA and Europe.

Citing issues like general elections and obvious slants in international trade, Dr. Obasanjo noted that even in scholarship, global economic equation and politics the Black race have been clearly marginalised and is still being trounced by the said global standard which actually were “a few people’s wish” being forced down the throat of the rest.

The event hosted by Osun state government with the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the endorsement of United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), received goodwill massages from the presidents of such countries as Brazil, Senegal, Benin, Gambia, among others. Presenting the message of President Goodluck Jonathan, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Teritory, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd) communicated his urge for the global media to be more objective in issues that involve the developing nations, especially, Africa.

Spectacular performances were staged by cultural troupes from such states as Akwa Ibom, Benue and Osun.

Professors Runoko Rashidi from USA and Karim Bangura from UK made presentations at the opening. Rashidi who gave the keynote traced the source of all major civilizations in the world to Africa. His presentation was replete with visuals and citations. The five-day conference which ended last Friday held at the same time with International Colloquium on Slavery, Slave Trade and its Consequences held at Iloko Ijesa, Osun state. The later conference was also opened the same day as Global Conference of Black Nationalities.

Meanwhile, UNESCO has expressed its readiness to continue to partner Osun state in promoting cultural tourism. UNESCO’s Programme Specialist, Mr Edmund Moukala, who spoke on behalf of the organisation at the opening of the International Colloquium on Slavery, Slave Trade and its Consequences said UNESCO was impressed by the commitment of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to cultural promotion.

He noted that the two conferences holding simultaneously in Osogbo and Iloko Ijesa organised by the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo with the support of Osun state government were in tune with the objectives of UNESCO.

The UNESCO official added that the organisation was not surprised that the governor could be so committed to matters of cultural tourism given his pedigree. Moukala noted Osun state as a frontline cultural location in Nigeria.

Oyinlola in his remark commended the participants at the Colloquium for honouring the invitation of the state, adding that the conference would go a long way in explaining the current state and place of the black man in world affairs.

The saw scholars from all over the world presenting papers on Slavery and related issues. Among topics discoursed were, Slave Market, Routes, Monuments, Relics and Tourism, Globalisation and New Forms of Enslavement; Enslavement and Global African Diaspora; Women, Slavery and the Slave Trade; Regional Perspectives on Slavery and Slave Trade and Historiography of Slavery and the Slave Trade.

hang on - isnt this the same Obasanjo that allowed the Paris club to play him 419 by paying them $30 billion in supposed outstanding debt that they claim Nigeria owed them? Does this man think people are stupid,? If he wanted to stand up to the west, when they asked for that unbeleivable amount of money to settle our supposed outstanding debt that would have been a good time for him to stand up to them. What is the point of posturing and making mouth after they have finished using him to acheive their goals?

The truth of the matter is Obasanjo is a gutless puppet who would never dare to challenge the west, this is a man who owes his life to the west - they saved him from Abacha, they installed him in power in the 70's and then again in 99/00 -so what is he talking about? Is he angry with them because they still treat him as an inferior despite doing their bidding?

Go and check out who he fraternises with - some of the most influential names in the american establishement, and now he is coming here to try and bamboozle unsuspecting nigerians with pseudo pro black militant rhetoric.

When former US secretary of defense, Robert McNamara recommended that he introduce population control measures in nigeria in order to reduce nigeria's population why didnt he tell them to go to hell, why doesnt he tell nigerians about his involvement with Murtala Muhammed's assassination? Isnt it strange how he continues to feature in the nigeria political scene, despite his unpopularity, this man thinks people are stupid.

This is a buffoon who has been following instructions from his white masters ever since they helped him into office in 1976:

Here is what nigerian political analyst Chinweizu says about his stupidity:

The advance fee fraud: Suppose some conman said to you: "You see that bank over there? I have $36bn in its vaults, and out of my generosity or pity for your plight or admiration for your village headman's super-obedience and life-long, continent-wide services to me, I want to make you a gift of half of it, $18bn. But first you have to give me $12bn upfront." That would be classic advance fee fraud, a.k.a. 419, would it not? A crime requiring the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other crime fighting agencies of the government. But that is precisely what the Paris Club has told the President. And he is celebrating and actively sourcing for the $12bn to hand over to the Paris Club gangsters.

For avoidance of doubt, please allow me to spell it out: The Paris Club is holding a Nigerian debt stock allegedly worth $36bn; and it wants to charitably give back $18bn of it to Nigeria, on condition that Nigeria hands over $12bn upfront. When that advance fee is paid, they promise to give to Nigeria $18bn worth of that debt stock, and to then arrange for Nigeria to buy back the remainder, at terms yet to be discussed. Now isn't that 419? In fact, it is more than 419; some might call it Four-one-ten!!

The other criminal aspect: Now, 419 is a crime, not only in Nigeria, but in most countries, including the Paris Club countries. And it is, presumably, a crime in international law since Interpol is interested in such cases. That is one criminal aspect of this "debt relief" deal. But there is at least one other. If the chief executive officer (CEO) of a corporation were to be set up for a scam by some gangster syndicate which strips his corporation of its assets, wouldn't that CEO be fingered as an accessary to a felony? Yet, the President, the CEO of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), is party to setting up this scam whereby the Paris Club syndicate of shylock gangsters is set to asset-strip $12bn or more from Nigeria's reserves. Doesn't he deserve a quizzing by the EFCC?

Economic treason: It is pertinent to recall here how Nigeria was taken into the debt trap in the first place: Back in the late 1970s, against the wisdom of public opinion, the then military head of state, Gen. Obasanjo, was conned by foreign lenders into taking a $1bn jumbo loan that Nigeria, with its then buoyant oil revenues, did not need. The excuse was that Nigeria was "under-borrowed." They claimed that Nigeria needed the jumbo loan to build investor confidence, so that foreign investments would flow in and develop the economy. He fell for that trap. But did the expected investments flow in? Now, nearly 30 years later, as President Obasanjo, he is falling for another scam by his white controllers. In the hope of extricating Nigeria from the debt trap into which he himself led Nigeria, he is eager to hand over Nigeria's reserves, to the tune of $12bn or more, to the same creditor gangsters. As the Chinese say: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!

These are just a few of the aspects of this so-called debt relief that I find curious and troubling. Perhaps the press reports on which I have based my observations are inaccurate, but who is to say that they are? The ordinary citizens and even the press cannot uncover the facts much beyond what has already been done. They do not have the administrative instruments or constitutional powers to inspect the documents in the files of the Presidency. Since it is apparent that the EFCC seemed to have been turned into a private instrument for harassing handpicked adversaries of the President, the public cannot trust it to look, let alone impartially, into this debt relief affair. Thus, only the National Assembly (NASS), which has the constitutional power to inspect the documents of the Executive branch, can further illuminate this debt deal. Perhaps this is the time for the NASS (whose own campaign was, wisely, for 100% debt cancellation and not this murky "debt relief" scam) to step in and clarify matters and act in the interest, and to the satisfaction, of the Nigerian people.

Obasanjo's talk is damn cheap, he had a combined total of 11 years to help the most populous black nation get ahead, and he failed miserably.
I do not know why he keeps bleating after his tenure, but I'm more confused as to why World Organisations and the Press pay him any attention.

Re: Obasanjo To Blacks: Resist Global Marginalistion by cap28: 7:27pm On Aug 30, 2010
Obasanjo is what african americans refer to as a rented negro, the whites rented him to push their capitalist imperialist agenda.  Like the dutiful slave that he is he was told by the US govt to borrow huge loans with inflated interest rates from their various financial institutions in order to keep us indebted to them forever. As if this wasn't bad enough they even asked him to promote their population control agenda which was and still is targeted at non black countries in order to gradually wipe out the black populations of the world thereby ensuring that the  white race retain their dominant economic position in the world.

Whatever the white power structure tell this old tom to do he dutifully carries it out, he sends nigerian troops to go and engage in so called peace keeping activities in darfur, sierra leone and liberia when these same wars have been fomented and prosecuted by western arms manufacturers in order for them to maximise profits from arms sales , now like a bitter old uncle tom he is trying to bite the fingers that have been feeding him since 1976 who is he fooling?

Here he is getting all hot under the collar because a british journalist is grilling him on corruption:
