If you see the money bike guys get from this road especially from Ikeja to iyana ipana, you want to drop you Job and start the business. ₦500 from Ikeja alone to iyana ipana in just how many minutes and people are already waiting for you for the next turn

ambode is doing nothing if you care to know. All he does is give those sensitive project to road side contractors that are constructing rubbish compare to what Fashola did 9yrs ago and are still standing firm on the ground and sight. Ambode shld do and getout.

You are correct. Nobody knows the name of the company handling the project. Even there is no name on any of their equipment. Maybe anybody that knows should say it here.

Moreover, in the masterplan of Lagos that Ambode jettisoned, that is not what is planned for the expansion of the road.

l wish him well though

The road is so badly engineered

I have never come across such useless construction .

Some part of the road is so narrow, such that two vehicles can hardly pass through .

Well said bro... It's due to the long hours one spent in traffic. Anytime I am coming to Iyana-Ipaja or Abule Egbe, I have to think very well cos I spend nothing less than 6hrs on that road to and fro.

You won't blame the Okada riders, they saw a loophole and they capitalised on it.

You couldnt have said it better. No engineering expertise was employed in the execution .unlike the road from airport to oshodi that brought solutions this hopeless misadventure of a project by Ambode actually increased road users headaches rather than bring solutions, imagine after ile zik the next turning is almost at Araromi.people that live on mangoro would pass their homes and go and face hours of traffic at dopemu.hopefully the new puppet governor does a total overhaul and restarts that project. The company that did the project was strabic nig.a company that had never built a single shop talkless of hroad of that magnitude .just another front for ambode to rob lagos state’s treasury. Rogue

Report quite true. But bro Oshodi to Iyana ipaja has always been 150-200 unless it is costa n molue u are talking about . The construction has messed up the road, the BRT is nothing other than fostering some peoples business interest. Anybody will lives along this axis will agree that constructing the road without the BRT will favour residents around here as the BRT lanes only narrowed the road. We all know whose interest the BRT serves but we have chosen to all be slaves in Lagos

Think longterm, like 50yrs/ 100yrs. Lagos cannot continue to be myopic because of bread sellers and shops on the road....short term pain, but longterm glory. By the time they start underground train system, Lagos will finally be on the way to becoming like London and New york. That is the next step

this project is just a waste of funds..
Ambode could have expanded the road or constructed a railway, instead of creating narrowing the road and creating numerous bottlenecks

Na ur papa fund abi? lol , expansion of roads isn't always solution to traffic, it may be the direction of vehicles moving , and specific vehicles constant on the road.... my broad, that's y its like that...

Lol...ambode is only interested in the BRT lane and the money he is going to make from it. Just wait and see how they'll abandon the other lanes and fix only their BRT lane then claim it is FG's responsibility. I laugh when people praise and worship nigerian politicians. Many of them don't deserve to live.

The reason there are many bus stops/pedestrian bridges on that stretch of the BRT corridor (I believe as many as 14) is to enable commuters to get off closest to their destinations and then use the bridges to access the side streets. There’s no need to “go and face hours of traffic”.

Reading many of the posts, it’s clear many Nigerians do not grasp the concept of public transportation projects.

Yes, there are (as there always is) inconveniences during the construction phase, and, like several other Lagos projects, the pace of work has noticeably slowed down considerably since the “political coup” to remove Ambode and even impeach him if he insists on continuing to function as the only legitimate governor in office until May 29.

Nonetheless, the concept of this project remains SOUND, and frankly those bemoaning its design appear unable to grasp the concept of mass public transportation. The primary idea of mass public transportation is the greatest good for the greatest number. Accordingly, with respect to this project which faces the restriction of a roadway that was not historically designed for mass public transportation, priority is granted to the BRT corridor over the private car lanes, given that this BRT corridor is projected to serve about 300,000-450,000 commuters daily (the World Bank projected just over 200,000 in 2009) over 4 local govt areas who are currently served by incredibly poor public transportation choices in the form Okada and Danfo. In effect, the project elevates/upgrades public transportation, not least because the quickest means of resolving Lagos’ perennial traffic congestion issues (pending mass rail transit) is to get more people out of private cars onto mass public transportation. The more comfortable/convenient such public transportation choices are, the better chances of patronage.

Finally, regarding the engineering design, again given the historical limitations of the roadway a BRT corridor placed in the median of the the roadway makes the most sense, with enough stops and pedestrian bridges to enable commuters ingress and egress at regular intervals. If conversely the outer lanes were used for the BRT corridor (as elsewhere) in this particular stretch of road, one would have to either demolish myriad properties encroaching/bordering the right of way to expand the roadway or would effectively block off the side streets and businesses located along the roadway (as failing to do so would effectively negate the ‘rapidity’ of the BRT service as cars egress/ingress the highway. Meanwhile, the 2 lanes left for private cars is more than sufficient (1) because there will no longer be Danfo on the roadway stopping every few minutes/yard to pick up/drop passengers, and (2) if our generally inconsiderate Nigerian drivers stop packing along the highway or stopping in traffic to buy everything from Gala to Boli and Plantain.

Eko o ni Baje!
