You think they don't know? They do. All of them. Including the BMC's with official positions like Tolu.
However, I don't really blame them if one looks at the picture holistically. The Buhari's regime is implementing a classic program of fascist socialism, where the State uses poverty to subdue its citizens and the security services to oppressive the stubborn ones in order to intimidate the rest into silence.

And it has worked, of courses enabled by the twin postcolonial and seminal divisions of tribe, ethnicity and religion. Nigeria is a country that stands as on a tripod of the Hausa/Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba nation-states. To rule, you just need the backing of at least the political class from two of these tripod. Buhari has the backing he needs from the North and Tinubu-led political elites of the South West. That is enough to rule in Nigeria.

The BMCs are also victims of the sorry state of Nigeria's affairs. However, they survive based on the penury they get from Buhari. So they know. But survival, for them and as expected, is first. So they ignore.

I like your analogy

The talks of divestment is only applicable to their onshore assets and not the offshore assets.

Shell did the same thing and am not sure people lost their jobs like that.

Don't you know there will be new owners hence new management?
This new owners can't outrightlly bring in new hands just like that except their plan is to ground the facility to Zero.

Workers will be handsomely paid off (if it's in their contract) then handed over to the new management.

Some contracts will get reviewed, don't be shocked the review may even be better than what it used to be.

So make una relax.

Nothing dey happen.

For your information the oil exploration and production activities in Nigeria still has about +/-35 yrs.

This is enough period for whoever is working in that industry to have put solid plans on ground for self and family.

I don't blame them one bit. The cost of doing business in Nigeria is arguably the highest in the whole wide world. No power, no road network, rampant corrupt and totally inefficient system/service. To open a bank account takes less than 5 mins in the US, in Nigeria it's a whole day job.

Nigeria is a FAILED state, nothing more nothing less.

Exactly....It's sad that Nigerians don't read. Exxon can never divest their offshore assets in Nigeria cos they have the most profitable offshore assets amongst the IOC's. Besides, offshore is the future of oil and gas production. No thanks to our Niger delta brothers who keep disturbing and vandalizing land assets of IOC's
chloride6:
They are not selling ALL their assets...

How does the Nigerian Economy affect their situation...

Poor Journalism...

New fields in Eastern Africa as well as the American are currently very profitable because of various incentives offered.

We already have a developed oil industry so we wont offer those incentives..

Exxon are still developing assets in Nigeria as well speak...

Same with Shell, Total and AGIP...

Besides no sale can take place without the approval the FG...

So chill and dont wail....

Modified

Called my friend in Eket now

Said it's just the discussion are on the onshore fields..

The offshore fields are not for Sale..

Exxon is currently hiring fresh graduates.

They wouldn't be doing so if there was no long term plan.

NNPC has an exploration and production arm-NPDC. However, they have a lot to learn from the IOC's. I think they should also send some people on assignments to Aramco, Petrobras and Petronas to learn how they've been sccessful in running their national oil companies.
emkz:
I always wondered what would happen when Nigeria's oil dries up. Yes, all these companies woule leave.

I hope the NNPC would truly become competitive like Petrobras or Saudi Aramco and set up a company to be engaged in petroleum exploration and production. A situation where these IOCs produce and the NNPC does nothing but receive money is an anomaly which does not happen anywhere in the world. Nigeria needs to take over and manage Nigeria's assets.

You must be so dumb it hurts.

Apart from Libya which country has more oil than Nigeria in Africa? Nigeria even has the best oil; its so low in sulfur that it can be used directly in some engines.

When Mobil cleared out of Libya before the civil war there, this was how it was. But then you are too you young to know that.

not suprised. Alot of american oil companies left Canada too to focus in their home country. Unlike Obama, trump wholeheartedly supports all form of hydrocarbon extraction. US is now the largest producer of crude oil. I wonder what would happen to their workers in Nigeria. Maybe the new conpany that buys over the assets would take on the employees.

Nigerians have taken to social media to react to reports of plans by American oil giant, Exxon Mobil to divest its assets in Nigeria.

According to Reuters, quoting industry and banking sources, the company has held talks on the sale of a suite of oil and gas fields in Nigeria as the company focuses on new developments in U.S. shale and Guyana.

The report said that the potential disposals are expected to include stakes in onshore and offshore fields and could raise up to $3 billion.

However, some commentators blamed the harsh economic realities in Nigeria for the company’s alleged plans to leave the country.

Lol. US is done and dusted with Nigerian oil, I remember when they were the biggest buyer up until they decided to let go, and now they have the highest reserve in the world. Not surprised US companies are leaving if you add the economic policies and govenment regulations.

Another case of if Nigerian killed your business, you business was killing Nigerians

Wilbros and Dunlop left during OBJ's tenure cos of high cost of power. Michelin and PZ left during GEJ's tenure. I don't think Nestle is leaving and Exxonmobil is not leaving. They're basically carrying out same exercise their IOC counterparts carried out in Nigeria a few years ago.
fairfora:
Next level thing. By the time Buhari and his team spend 4 years in power,I hope and pray there would still be Nigeria. Wilbros has left, solgas has left, michelin has left, dunlop has left, PZ has left, Nestle has left and now, Mobil is leaving. These ate the great multinationals. Buhari may not he the one responsible for those who had left in the past but the situation got worse in his time. He couldn't manage it at all. Obasanjo warned Buhari of his refusal to renew oil licences. Now the realities are staring us in the face. Make we dey drink our oyel now. Nonsense. I wonder what the Buhari economic team members are made up of.

I only wish you guys dig news deeper than the surface. I knew this will happen. and I am glad it did. This is one of the IOCs destroying the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. And they are not comfortable that Buhari will insist on them paying what is due from them. They have been cutting corners since the came into the country... and of course, successive governments have benefitted from the largesse they share.

Immediately I realized the Western countries were backing Atiku, I prayed hard that he will lose, and I told my friends, that if Atiku loses, some of the IOCs will declare their interest to leave the country, and sell their onshore and offshore asset. This is the beginning of the fulfillment of my prophecy.

As they leave, new investors that will follow the right procedures and do business legitimately with the interest of Nigeria covered will come in...

If that is the only cleanup Buhari with is dull government will achieve before we get some younger vibrant leadership in 2023, it will be a very good thing for Nigeria!

even with ur conspiracy theory do u know how much it coat to do biz in Nigeria as manufacting plant u have to burn dieasel 247 whereas in other countries you dont no infrastruxture.....

Abi, I don't know where people get their news from. Nestle is expanding in Nigeria. GSK is not leaving Nigeria alone. They're leaving Africa. Exxonmobil is also not leaving Nigeria. They're only doing what Shell, Total and Chevron started in 2011.
GavelSlam:

SalamRushdie, Nestle is not leaving.

GSK is doing less in Africa (Kenya , South Africa and Nigeria) as it seeks to refocus her strategy.

If you have evidence of their leaving, provide it.

Oil will still be in use for the next 30 years although in lesser demand. Gas is part of renewable energy and a lot of oil companies are refocusing on that. Nigeria has the 9th largest natural gas reserve in the world so we are still in biz.
GavelSlam:

You want to show yourself abi?

I'm saying there's is a steady commitment away from oil, and you are here telling me about untapped oil.

Combustion engine vehicles (Diesel and petrol) are being phased out in Europe.

Many homes are beginning to install solar panels.

Wind energy is being used to power many homes and industries.

Abi you dey see coal trains again?

Just as coal is in less demand so is oil being phased out.

In addition, there are many places with Shale (the source rock for petroleum) which can now be extracted making far-flung countries such as Nigeria less attractive even in the short to medium term.

To think you even got.likes tells me the average Nigrian is highly unimformed.

American oil fields are managed by America.
So is Russian oils fields.Same applies to China, Britain etc.

So Nigerian oil field should be invested on by Nigerians

Ask Venezuela how that ended. The oil industry is complex and run as a multinational for a reason. Do you understand how the crude oil market works? Are we going to sell in isolation? Are we going to explore or produce in isolation? How many seasoned oil experts do we really have?

Venezuela lost over 30000 jobs on this nationalisation misadventure and the industry turned to scrap. I hope you know Venezuela was top 5 in global oil producers? Its not just about having oil. Its about creating value.

They have the highest proven oil reserve too.
