FG: PDP, ex-VP plotting to destabilise Buhari’s govt

By Onyekachi Eze

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has alleged plan by President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replay the phantom coup plot of late General Sani Abacha where he falsely accused and jailed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for treason.

Atiku spoke in reaction to the statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, where he accused him and the PDP of plot to destabilize the Federal Government. The former vice president, in a statement yesterday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, said in his desperation to remain in office, President Buhari wants to rope him in a phantom coup plot. “We want to know why the desperation on the part of the Muhammadu Buhari government to rope in the PDP and its Presidential candidate in phantom plots? Obviously, President Buhari wants to replay the phantom coup plot saga of his now deceased mentor, who threw former President Olusegun Obasanjo in jail after falsely accusing him of treason in order to perpetuate himself in power.

“Could it be that they are now aware that the electoral fraud they perpetrated during the last presidential election is about to be exposed beyond a shadow of a doubt?” the former vice president wondered. He noted that if there is anybody beating the drums of war, it is the APC leaders, whom he said issued statements threatening Nigerians and foreigners alike with ‘body bags’. Atiku described himself as a “thoroughbred democrat,” noting that he joined forces with the likes of Chief Moshood Abiola and Dr. Alex Ekwueme to resist Abacha’s dictatorship and fought for the democracy Buhari and APC were allegedly trampling on.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku Abubakar resisted the Abacha dictatorship, of which President Muhammadu Buhari was a prominent member, and it is his resistance and the sacrifice of his co-travellers, like Chief MKO Abiola and Alex Ekwueme, amongst others, that gave rise to the democracy that the current government is now trampling on.

“It is preposterous that those who threatened to ‘soak the dog and the baboon in blood’ are now aukardacious enough to point the finger at lifelong democrats. Truly, if the farmer does not raise the alarm on time, the thief will accuse him of being a thief,” he said. Atiku further wondered how President Buhari, who “wined and dined with Nigeria’s most brutal dictator,” and “overthrew a democratically elected president and held a grudge against him even in death (as evidenced by the empty condolence register he left in Sokoto, last year) accuse a man who has never been as much as associated with such tendencies, of being an anti-democrat?” He said the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was clever by half. Atiku said Nigerians should not take the minister serious, adding, “when we have a situation where even those who employed him know that Lai Mohammed is a liar, who will even lie during the holy month of Ramadan, then why should Nigerians be surprised at this latest lie?” He advised the minister to face “the cesspool of corruption that has been exposed in his ministry by the investigative website which revealed that Mr. Mohammed’s fingers may be stickier than sticky glue.”

Meanwhile, the PDP said the APC-led Federal Government is looking for scapegoats to blame for its failure in government. PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, advised the APC-led Federal Government to accept its failures and self-inflicted woes. “It is incontrovertible that the PDP, as a highly responsible political party, committed to the unity and stability of our dear nation, nurtured our democracy for 16 years and has continued to express its full respect for every arm of government, including the judiciary. “It is equally undisputable that the APC, within a period of four years, has wrecked our democratic structures, relegated and harassed judicial officers, disregarded our laws and judicial pronouncements, divided our people and practically brought our nation to its knees only for them to now turn to look for scapegoats where there are none,” the party observed. It noted that while in government, the PDP had never intimidated or harassed judicial officers at any level, and described as unfortunate that the Minister of Information and Culture could make such allegations against the PDP and its presidential candidate instead of accepting their failures. “As a party, we consider it awkward for the APC and its government, under whose only four years tenure, our judiciary has been thoroughly embarrassed, to make frivolous allegations against our party and presidential candidate. “It is manifestly clear that the PDP and our presidential candidate are in court to seek justice and the issues of bias raised by our party are in public domain and in the general interest of majority of Nigerians who gave their presidential mandate to Atiku Abuba-kar. “The fact remains that the APC and its failed government owe it as a responsibility to be accountable to Nigerians; the PDP has a constitutional role to play in this accountability process and our party will not shy away from it,” PDP stated. The party challenged the Federal Government to stop inventing excuses and making frivolous allegations of treason for its mass failures. “The expectation of Nigerians is for the Buhari presidency to live up to the demands of their offices instead of blaming our party for their self-inflicted woes,” the party demanded.

The case instituted by His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar at the Presidential Elections petition tribunal is one that will rock Nigeria to her very foundations in a very positive manner.

We've never seen a case like this one, and that's why the APC miscreants are jittery and shitting in their pants... We should all be interested and patriotic at once.

Atiku replies Nigerian govt, says Lai Mohammed a liar, Buhari desperate dictator

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has described the federal government’s accusation that he is a saboteur as false. He described the information minister, Lai Mohammed, as a ‘liar.’

Mr Abubakar was reacting to an earlier statement by Mr Mohammed that the former vice president and his party, PDP, were plotting to sabotage the Buhari administration.

“Either by themselves or via their proxies, the PDP and its presidential candidate are doing everything possible to sabotage the Buhari Administration, generally overheat the polity and make Nigeria seemingly ungovernable, especially through their public utterances and their poorly-thought-out press releases before and after the 2019 general elections,” Mr Mohammed said.

In his response, Mr Abubakar said: “It is not surprising that such a despicable lie is emanating from Mr. Lai Mohammed, President Buhari’s aptly named Minister of Information.”

Mr Abubakar also described Mr Buhari as a dictator. He accused the president of plotting to implicate the opposition in phantom plots.

“We want to know why the desperation on the part of the Muhammadu Buhari government to rope in the Peoples Democratic Party and its Presidential candidate in phantom plots?” Mr Abubakar said in a statement by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe.

Read Mr Abubakar’s full response below.

My attention has been drawn to accusations by the Muhammadu Buhari led administration against the candidate of the Presidential Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 elections and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, alleging that he has made treasonable statements.

It is not surprising that such a despicable lie is emanating from Mr. Lai Mohammed, President Buhari’s aptly named Minister of Information.

Lai Mohammed is so associated with lies that even Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said, on Monday, May 13, 2019, as follows:

“People like Lai Mohammed, Abba Kyari, Adamu Adamu they are usually very well behaved during the Ramadan. But I’m not even sure that that is true anymore.”

When we have a situation where even those who employed him know that Lai Mohammed is a liar, who will even lie during the holy month of Ramadan, then why should Nigerians be surprised at this latest lie?

Mr Lai Mohammed is only being clever by half when he says “It beggars belief that a candidate who prides himself as a democrat can so allow desperation to becloud his sense of propriety to such an extent that he will be associating with anti-democratic forces or making inflammatory statements.”

Atiku Abubakar is a man of peace and a thoroughbred democrat. It is preposterous that those who threatened to ‘soak the dog and the baboon in blood’ are now audacious enough to point the finger at lifelong democrats. Truly, if the farmer does not raise the alarm on time, the thief will accuse him of being a thief.

How can a man who wined and dined with Nigeria’s most brutal dictator, how can a man who overthrew a democratically elected President and held a grudge against him even in death (as evidenced by the empty condolence register he left in Sokoto, last year) accuse a man who has never been as much as associated with such tendencies, of being an anti-democrat?

If anybody is “beating the drums of war”, it is precisely those who have issued statements threatening Nigerians and foreigners alike with “body bags”.

For the avoidance of doubt, let me inform the minister of disinformation that Atiku Abubakar resisted the Abacha dictatorship, of which President Muhammadu Buhari was a prominent member, and it is his resistance and the sacrifice of his co-travellers, like chief MKO Abiola and Alex Ekwueme, amongst others, that gave rise to the democracy that the current government is now trampling on.

Mr. Lai Mohammed is advised to face the cesspool of corruption that has been exposed in his ministry by the investigative website, Premium Times, which revealed that Mr. Mohammed’s fingers may be stickier than sticky glue.

Why is APC government appearing to be at unease with Atiku? Why are they jittery and uncomfortable with his legal quest?

First, Atiku was not on the side of MKO. He in fact remained on same side with Shehu Yaradua, not Abiola. Atiku was a candidate in the primary and after his defeat he opposed Abiola, the winner of primary.

Second, Ekwueme was not in the Democracy Coalition called NADECO, which was the beacon and navigator that forced out military. Atiku was not in NADECO either.

According to Nnamdi Kanu,Atiku is behind why Ekwueme never became a Vice-President.

Apart from that, Atiku is too desperate for my liking.

I believe Atiku had tresspased the treason rule many times but was overlooked. Beside, declaring to sell our national asset and use his administration to enrich his friends was nothing but a threat to security of the nation.

The Yorubas jubilated the day Abacha died, it was like Christmas before December, the Yoruba media wrote and demonized everybody associated with that regime. It's still baffles me till today how we Yoruba hated and demonized Abacha and his regime but support a buhari who was the engine room of that same evil regime.

Is there any tribe more hypocritical than the Yoruba race?

The wealthiest Yorubas are not in Buhari's camp, but the wealthiest Ibos - Orji Uzor Kalu, Arthur Eze - contributed money for the re-election of Buhari. They are funding an evil regime.
