Jeremiah 17:5-10 : Trusting in human is contrasted with the wisdom of trusting in the Lord. Jeremiah 11:1-8 also brings into remembrance the convenant God made with the people of Israel. If they choose obedience, they will inherit the land flowing with milk and honey; the Lord will be their God and they will be his people. In essence, They will become the blessed people of God. The other side of the convenant was a "Curse." The Israelites foolishly disobeyed God, therefore God brought upon them all the curses described in the convenant.

THE LESSON TO LEARN

It is wisdom to obey and trust in God. It will be counted as folly to trust in human beings. Those who trust in human beings would be like shrubs in the desert that are stunted because of lack of water. In contrast, those who trust in the Lord are like trees planted along a riverbank. They will have abundant resources and be well equiped and prepared to face lifes ups and downs.(Psalm 1.2-3).

When we trust in God, his power and presence in our life becomes deeper and deeper, allowing the manifestation of his Glory(Holy Spirit) to become more impressive as its progression can be observed for all to see. We become like a river that brings life to anything it touches. Just like the river that flowed through the temple of Jerusalem that spread outward, transforming things that were death to life (Ezekiel 47:1-12)
