@OP stop using your own little knowledge and misinformation in the subject matter to derail people. My dad has been a Cotonou car dealer as long as 20yrs and he has not for once bought car with any defect or missing part till date! Tho way back early 20s they seize one of his car and he was able to retrieve it back and nothing like ever happen again.... 3 Likes |

The only truth in this post is number; "1. It is illegal. If vehicle is intercepted while crossing it can be seized permanently by the Govt." All the other reasons are totally untrue. I bought my car in cotonou. The white man that was selling the car showed me the car. Itest drove the car for about ten minutes inside the field where they sell the cars. When I was satisfied with the car and the mechanic confirmed that the car was okay, I made a deposit of ten thousand naira. With the deposit, the seller gave me a receipt and a commitment that the car will not be sold to anyone else, even if they offer more than what I had agreed to pay. I then went to the border and withdrew the rest of the money which was about one million plus. After my payment, I went home and my car was brought to my house in about a week. I've had the car for six years and I have no regrets buying from Cotonou. The only thing that was missing in my car was the jack and the sellermade a note letting me know that there wa sno jack in the vehicle. Every other thing was intact. My friends who bought their from Nigeria regretted. 8 Likes |

naijaguy123456: Illegally though the risk is high, let's be sincere. Customs seize hundreds out of those thousands of cars every day, and truth is nobody is bringing in bulk cars from Cotonou anymore. Go to Berger Yard in Mile 2, even there, Lagos Clearing don plenty now. Cotonou is bad market for them 1 Like |

Legalo: Not everything you say is true. 1. Vehicle purchase from Cotonou is not illegal. If you pay the right custom duties and fees, you can drive freely across borders and within Nigeria. 2. Says who? I even test drive without eventual buying. You can test drive before negotiation. 3. When you have chosen your vehicle, get your cash, inspect again before you pay. Vandalism can happen if your are not watchful even if you buy form your backyard. 4. Tell me which car is immune to breakdown. Even brand new car can break down on the way. 5. Vehicle theft. Theft is every where. Whether you buy from from Berger or from Asokoro. |

When the No. 1 is a lie then what can we say about the rest? Buy your vehicle in Cotonou and pay the correct duty to the customs at the border. QED. I have bought a number of vehicles in cotonou in the past. Never had any trouble as I paid complete duty. Cars were cheaper too. Don't know if that is still the case as the naira has lost so much value under Buhari |

Op be lying, you can always test drive a car in the port even without buying but just with the intention. Cars that are damaged are the ones that are very old in the park and then sold for cheap. once you've paid fully, your cars are ready to be driven out of the park, they even have drivers ready to help you drive to naija for a token. All you said are lies. pure lies, I'm not an importer of cars, but I sure know my onions in Cotonou ports. |
