He was made chuunin cos he made the right decisions while naruto fought and fought jux so he cud be recognised. shikamaru lost and was still made chuunin, end of story. What happened the next year was a non issue cos we're talking about that very chuunin exam
Naruto faced kakazu with others, jux like with pain, not alone. Shikamaru handled hidan alone. Make of it what u may but hidan is an immortal so he can afford to be stupid. The way he even drew him away was jux brilliant. Work of art.
