You have to appear in person for your biometrics. I had thought they would transfer the one I did at Ikoyi, but they didn't. I had to travel all the way from Urbana-Champaign to DC. But really, it was an amazing experience. I used the opportunity to see The White House and other places in DC. DC is damn beautiful!
PS: I don't quite get what you mean by how much in total. I assume you mean passport, feeding, airbnb, metro, flight and all. I spent about $600 (spent 4 days in DC). NPVS charges $165 for passport renewal while direct payment is just $106.

Yea, the date is right there
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by learner007(m): 9:50pm On Jul 07, 2020
I would ask you to try your luck. I was scheduled for Nov 16th, though I got an initial date of July 1st from innovate1. I went anyways and presented my case in an 'omoluwabi' manner. I found favor with them
PS: I had to go because I had booked my flight and all before the change of date. Plus, the date doesn't work with my current passport, as it expires in August and ISSS already sent me a friendly reminder. I had only one option, 2go and tell them whatsapp!

Oh okay bro.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by neurosci: 10:11pm On Jul 07, 2020
Thanks, you already answered it all. So, to schedule an appointment, I need to start by calling NPVS or the Nigerian embassy in DC? I really dont wanna travel all the way to DC just for passport renewal.
I just wanna know where to start, like the person to call and start the scheduling processing. I like your wordplay up there tho, indomie generation wouldn't know what is 2go

Just go to the DC embassy website and apply directly. Just Google it, you will find the link. Fill in your info and pay, then a link will be sent to you...that's all!

Ivies are test optional for 2020/21 application season. Now ivies are extremely competitive, picking only the best students from the country e.g the kids who win Cowbellpedia, SPAK, international olympiads, etc.
You will be competing with these students academically for as few as 4-5 slots per ivy from Nigeria (which could potentially reduce as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic). Even with international level competitions on your resume, you still need a stellar SAT score to even begin to compete. Some students applying to these schools for fall 2021 already have their scores down, waiting for applications to open in August.
Applying test optional as an international student for significant funding from a top school is kamikaze.

I renewed my Naija passport in Atlanta.
I paid $60 by money order for expedited processing and wasn’t able to pick it up the same day but picked it up the following day.
I stayed at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Roswell Atlanta.

I'm saving this. Thanks for the tips. Trip loading, chai...I hate flying!
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Alexandre7: 11:11pm On Jul 07, 2020
Flight tickets should be very cheap right now.
For me, it was only a two (2) hour flight.
I flew with Delta Airlines.

Hmmm...you may apply there too. You may be lucky to get an earlier date

Hello my better people,
My school asks me to order my institution to send my official transcripts with a certified copy of my certificate. What did they mean by "Certified Copy of Bsc Certificate" because I have my Bsc certificate with me already now, so will school send it again?
I used my both ND, HND and Bsc to apply for admission, how I am going to send all the transcripts to them without costing me a lot of money?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by quasarJose: 11:25pm On Jul 07, 2020
Thank you for this. I find this highly invaluable...
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Paragontek: 11:53pm On Jul 07, 2020
You can get it certified in a court by a notary public at about 50 or 100 or 200 naira per page, depending on the location. I did mine at customary Court of appeal Enugu at 50 naira per copy.
Secondly, after getting it done, you may beg your institution to add the Certified documents to your transcripts when they are sending it. I don't know if this will be possible. I just think it would reduce cost of shipping for you.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Sanguine1: 1:30am On Jul 08, 2020
Thanks so much for this priceless support.
One more thing how can I do the ND and HND transcripts again? I don't E even know why i included them in my application self.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Paragontek: 5:50am On Jul 08, 2020
Send them a mail that you can only process your BSc transcript at the moment, and ask them if that will be enough...you may cite cost as an issue. See what they will say. Also, you will have to go to the notary public with your originals for sighting.

By certified copy it means your degree-granting school should directly send it to your intending school or give it to you in a sealed package.

drDoom3:some even have SAT subject tests.
Also he has to remember that SAT is valid for 5 years. So people that had 1500+ before are so competing with you, even with more experience.
If you can, please take the SAT.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by labylaby: 9:26am On Jul 08, 2020
Please do you have soft copies or hard copies of the books?
Did you contact any faculty member before?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by greenskittles: 10:37am On Jul 08, 2020
I don't have them anymore but if you do a Google search you should be able to find them, they're everywhere.
Yes I did, in some other schools, but I found that all the professors that interviewed me were people I didn't contact beforehand. It's different for everyone though.

Did you contact any in Stanford though? "In some other schools"
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by greenskittles: 11:35am On Jul 08, 2020

ISFS: More information about the fall semester
I am writing to follow up on our email from last night regarding the guidance that has been provided by SEVP related to the 2020 Fall semester.
First, I want you to know that we are doing everything we can to advocate on behalf of all international students at local and national levels. Second, you truly are such an important part of our Ohio University family and our Athens community. Third, we completely disagree with this guidance as we know the untenable position this puts many of you in. And finally, you are welcome and wanted in our community and as such we will continue to advocate for reasonable and supportive guidance for those of you who have entrusted us to support your education and growth here at OHIO.
Please keep a few things in mind as we navigate this guidance together:
Please keep yourself informed through emails that ISFS will send to you.
Please try to keep your focus on the here and now and not let the constant barrage of news and social media posts add stress to your life when we do not know if this guidance will stand.
Please do not make any immediate academic/life decisions based upon this guidance until you have spoken with both ISFS and your academic advisor.
As you may know, yesterday the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) issued long-awaited guidance for the Fall 2020 semester. For Spring and Summer semesters, SEVP granted universities and students a great deal of flexibility to adapt to the curricular changes made in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. It was our hope that the same flexibility would be granted for the Fall. However, yesterday’s guidance has removed some of the allowances that were granted previously.
Ohio University has adopted a hybrid model of teaching for the Fall, meaning that there will be a combination of in-person and online classes. This new guidance does allow students to pursue studies in the U.S. under this model. However, there are some limitations you need to be aware of:
Degree-seeking students can take extra online classes. However, they must also have at least one face-to-face class.
Students are required to take the fewest number of online courses possible to allow them to make normal progress towards their degree.
Every student must be issued a new I-20 form that confirms they are adhering to the two above rules.
According to the guidance released on July 6, 2020, students currently outside of the U.S. cannot keep an active SEVIS record while pursing online courses from abroad.
On July 7, 2020, contradictory information was provided by SEVP, and we are now waiting on clarification before providing further information.
Students in the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) are not allowed to take any online classes.
The guidance also states that if a university must move to an entirely online format during the course of the semester, students would need to either return home or transfer to another institution.
There are many questions about this guidance that remain unanswered. We have contacted our SEVP liaison to ask for additional details, especially about the existing plan for the university to move from in-person to online after Thanksgiving.
Once we have more details from SEVP we will be able to issue some recommendations that will help you determine your best options for the Fall semester.
There are many institutions that are standing up for all international students who are in the U.S. or wish to come someday to study. We hope this outpouring of support for students and advocacy against unreasonable guidance will result in a change to what was provided by SEVP yesterday. It is our goal that you be supported to remain at OHIO regardless of the teaching methods used during this unprecedented time we are facing with the continuing CO-VID crisis.
Our whole team at ISFS is here to support you, and we welcome your feedback and guidance and please do feel free to share your concerns. We will continue to provide the best support and advocacy that we can. You are welcome here, on our campus, in our community, and in our country.
