I got to the embassy by 6am. We were around like 40 as I estimated. I didn't spend up to 2 hours standing and waiting.

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning, your passport and I-20
Me: (passed both to him)
VO: your DS-160 and place your 4 fingers on the machine.
Me: (I did everything he told me to do)
VO: why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going for a master’s degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
VO: why this school?
Me: UL has a centre for optimization of petroleum system which aligns with my research interest and I was also given full funding.
VO: did you apply to other schools and name them?
Me: I applied to Louisiana state university, University of Kansas, University of Oklahoma, Texas Tech University and this University of Louisiana at Lafayette
VO: where do you currently work?
Me: I work as a performance analyst at TradeDepot Limited
VO: Trade what
Me: TradeDepot
VO: what do they do there?
Me: It's a retail distribution company and I work as a performance analyst.
VO: so how does this correlate with petroleum engineering?
Me: (at this point, I was lost; I didn't know what to say again) I wanted to start explaining how I love data science and Artificial Intelligence before the VO cut in..
VO: wait, what did you study in your undergraduate?
Me: (looking for how to regain my confidence back) I graduated with a first-class degree in petroleum engineering (me adding the ”first-class” to convince the VO that I understand the course quite well)
VO: (looking convinced) are you married?
Me: No
VO: any kids?
Me: No
VO: types to like a minutes and says, ”I will be approving your visa”.
Me: (while VO was typing, I said, ”Lord let your will be done”)

I noticed a lot from people that were denied and I easily predicted that the VOs weren't convinced.
A lady was asked why she chose a school and she said, ”the school offers a lot of courses”. The VO was like, so other universities don't have several courses? At that point, she sensed she was going to be denied.
Another guy with funding was asked who pays the rest, he said his bro. VO asked what his bro does, he said the bro works so so so and has a farm and does this and that. The VO didn't look convinced because it looked like the guy was beating around the bush.
Tips: once you have full funding, you already have a 95% chance of your getting approved; you just need to be confident and add the God factor.
If you have deficit, please try to clearly state what your sponsor does.

Thanks to everyone who has dropped his or her transcript here and those that give answers. Also thanks to my friend, Matluck and my two Gees, Kg and Karen.

I just got my visa approved about 30 minutes ago . Thanks to everyone who took their time to post on this thread , it helped prepare me for the likely questions.
However, I made sure to not read people’s answers because I wanted my own responses to be unique .

Thank you so much once again.
It was my first interview
No standardized exams
No travel history
No funding
Only applied to one school
Hello please can I pm you ?

b]Please I need your opinions on this interview question:[/b]

The applicant is going for a study course in bachelor that's not related to the study course he did in university tho he didn't finish the course but quitted in his final year to apply for a study visa...

How can he explain to the VO when asked?

PS: he has some certificates he obtained online that has to do with the study course.

Thanks as I await your response

Muleriders:

I'm so happy for you babe and it was a pleasure been part of this as well. You worked so hard, made yourself available for mock even at midnights.

Welcome on board dear, you are now a mulerider

Thanks for always coming out to support the low graders, people like you on this thread gives second class lower and third class graduates hope of achieving American dream.

Rut3, I read your profile, you had 2.79/5.0 from Nigeria, switched from undergraduate field and got admitted and VISA with no funding. Congratulations.

Please always come back to this thread to support and encourage other people with similar profile as yours just as muleriders did to you (judging from how many times you mentioned him on the post cheesy) . Please we need more of you on this thread. Good luck and God bless your American dream pursuit.

My Transcript.
Lagos.
November, 13th.

VO: Where are you going to?
Me: I'm going to the University of North Carolina, Greensboro for a Master's in Information Technology and Management.
VO: What would you do with this course?
Me: I want to solve the problem of food distribution. This program, information technology and management with a concentration in supply chain will ensure I am trained to apply information technology, data and systems to the food chain, to ensure the supply matches the demands. (Looking back, I should have mentioned that I have a background in Food Engineering).
VO: It seems you've really researched this.
Me: Yes, I have.
VO: Why this school?
Me: Asides being offered funding, this program is unique. Information Technology and Management with a concentration in supply chain management. I'll be getting a technical education and also a business education which is perfect for my career interest.
VO: What other schools did you apply to?
Me: University of Florida and Pennsylvania State University.
VO: Pennsylvania. I see you have funding. What is it about?
Me: I was offered graduate assistantship and would be working as an instructional assistant.
VO: Who is paying the deficit?
Me: My uncle.
VO: Where does he stay?
Me: Lagos.
VO: What does he do?
Me: He operates a big medical diagnostic laboratory.
VO: Are you Married? Kids?
Me: No
VO: Your application is denied. Take this paper?

BSc: Food Engineering
Funding: $26,000+
Deficit: $11,000+

I cannot 100% recall the conversation and I tried to put it down as best as I can recall. My VO was at stand 6 and the two people before me were rejected.

Looking back, it is easy to say I should have said this or I should have responded this way but I responded to the best of my ability. My profile is good and the questions he asked were generic so I'm totally confused about the reason for the rejection. He did not ask for bank statement or any other document.

I'll pay another appointment fee but this time I'll choose Abuja.

grin grin I guess you misunderstood what mulerider means. A mulerider is a student/ applicant admitted to my school. For you to be a mulerider, you must be admitted or be a student of Southern Arkansas University.

For mocks, fall exams is next week and I will be busy althrough this week and next. You can PM me for mock after November 20th. In the meantime, reach out to my boss fairheart, he is good and dependable.

Warm regards.

Visa Approved

V.O: Why did you choose the school

Me: The school has ongoing research that aligns with mine and with four different Professor with similar interest, all with very active labs, all collaborating constantly in research including clinical trials

V.O: how will you pay for the degree

Me: I have a graduate research assistantship that covers my full tuition and pays monthly stipends

Then he started picking the pink slip and white paper and saying the golden words at the same time.

The V.O that interviewed me seems to be the most friendly and people seemed to spend less time with him

Nevertheless, each person's case is unique and the whole process is somewhat subjective too.
Complicated sponsorship seem to be a huge factor that might lead to a lot of questions and denial from what I noticed

Thank you NL
