Alleged Rape: Nobody Can Replace You, Wife Tells Fatoyinbo by Tundemanias: 5:59am On Jul 03, 2019
Modele, wife of the embattled founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo, has said no one can replace her husband.

This comes after Fatoyinbo announced on Monday that he would take a leave of absence after Busola, wife of inspirational singer, Timi Dakolo, accused him of rape.

Busola alleged that the pastor sexually molested her twice within a week when she was 16.

However, Fatoyinbo denied the allegation and threatened to take legal action against the Dakolos.

Busola’s claim brought about a series of allegations on social media from women sexually abused by clerics.

It also led to protests by a group consisting of 126 civil society organisations and individuals, under the aegis of the #ChurchToo Movement, outside the pentecostal church premises in Abuja and Lagos on Sunday.

But Fatoyinbo made an appearance on Monday, the first day of a one-week prayer and fasting of the church.

At the end of the event, which Modele led, her husband emerged from backstage wearing a red Balenciaga T-shirt and accompanied by three men to his designated seat in front of the congregation.

Modele told the congregants, to loud cheers, that no one was capable of replacing Fatoyinbo.

She said, “Pastor doesn’t want me to talk. It’s fine. I just want to tell you, pastor, because we have strangers, that on behalf of your sons and daughters, we have strangers in this house — strange sons and daughters. But God will close the heavens over them in the name of Jesus.

“I just want to say we love you. You are our pastor; nobody can take your place. It’s always good to assure people that you love them, not only when you feel that everything is fine with them, even much more when you feel that they are not (loved).”

Modele told the congregants that Fatoyinbo remained their pastor despite the alleged rape, which took place 20 years ago.

Turning to Fatoyinbo, she said, “You know your friends when you’re in trouble. So, we don’t want you to doubt in your heart. As for Modele, until I see Jesus, my surname cannot change. So, you better calm down.

“We love you and you have always taught us well. You have always stood on that stage to teach us that even though anybody might be coming from anywhere, God loves them and accepts them. You have never preached condemnation; you have never peached that we cannot change or make it.

“Nobody on earth can take your place in our lives in spite of ’20 years’. Where are you coming from? Nobody can take your place.”

Security measures at the church auditorium on Monday were relaxed unlike when protesters gathered outside the church premises on Sunday. Members however underwent strict security checks before they were allowed in.

During the service, which began at 6pm, the ushers cautioned people using their phones.

Our correspondent observed that a man who attempted taking a picture of the praise team was sent out of the auditorium.

Meanwhile, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has warned that it won’t protect pastors who take undue advantage of their congregants.

In a statement on Tuesday by its President, Rev Felix Omobude, the PFN said it was disturbed by the rape allegation against Fatoyinbo, adding that “the PFN will not shield anyone who crosses the line.”

Omobude said, “The PFN is utterly shocked by these allegations, as the acts that have been alleged are not only criminal in nature but antithetical to the tenets of Christianity and a violent breach of the trust that ought to exist between members of the congregation and a minister of the gospel.

“We strongly condemn this ignoble and bastardly conduct as alleged against Pastor Fatoyinbo. Our prayers, thoughts and support are with all those who have fallen victim as have been reported.

“The PFN strongly believes in the pursuit of truth and will ensure that truth is unveiled in this whole matter and appropriate sanctions served.

“Although Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has not in the past subscribed to the PFN, we recognise that he is a pentecostal pastor.”
