The Ambassador really crossed the line of Diplomatic Etiquette. There is a distinct difference between delivering an official report and outrightly insulting not just Trump, but an entire Administration of a strong ally like the United States. Such should have come from Iranian Ambassador and never from UK Ambassador.

Ofcourse, he is free to mock/insult Trump and his administration amongst his friends and other colleagues privately but simple decorum should have prevented him from delivering such as an official communication.

Everything here is normal in diplomatic service. It has always being like that and will not change . The resignation was because of the embarrassment caused by the leakage. The statement remains valuable to the British Government including to the incoming Prime Minister. The next ambassador to Washington will continue to give similar and even more damaging reports when necessary, but he will make efforts to avoid leakages.

My broda, things are done very differently down there. It's not a matter of career options. Cameron resigned as British prime minister because he stood against Brexit but the people of UK voted for it. Theresa May is also leaving because she couldn't deliver on Brexit. There are so many instances like that. It's called sane climes. Not like here where politicians are caught red handed with stolen dollars and they're running for reelection.
