Man raises alarm after buying "Not For Sale" USAID donated mosquito net at Lekki store.

A Twitter user, Seyi Olusore, has raised an alarm after discovering that the mosquito net that he allegedly bought at Ebeano Supermarket in Lekki was donated to Nigeria by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and should not have been sold.

He opined that the mosquito nets should have been distributed to internally displaced people (IDPs).

https://www.prezzogroup.com.ng/medical.html

this is the first line of people that must be questioned.

how did the goods they were contracted to import find their way from abuja to lagos

unfortunately, the guy did not buy another net and he has lost the receipt. by now ebeano would have repackaged all the nets

this is how they make their money. they call it hustle. get something for a fraction of the price and sell it at a markup. this is theft, and i hope efcc gets into it

I've seen it in a couple of supermarkets and I was surprised as well cos a few years ago, they were distributed free.

Besides, isn't this the same thing the first lady talked about one time?

At my station in life, it would be infradig to exchange contumelies.

So if a car is stolen you buy to show that stolen cars are still been sold in the market?

They banned sniper in open market, so you buy it to show it's still there?

You buy indian hemp and cocaine too to show it's still being sold?

You patronise prostitutees and bring them to your house, to show women still do prostitution?

IF PEOPLE DON'T BUY SUCH ITEMS, THEY WILL STOP SELLING IT.

I won't engage you further.....

Continue writing jargons.....

Was he aware before the purchase that the nets weren't for sale?
Instead of you to stick to your advert of airtime, you tried trending on the wrong path.
Keep dropping incendiaries, you will surely get more customers....

Is it not Nigeria again? Something that was fully paid for by the USAID agency and giving out free to be distributed free, they will divert and sell it out at outrageous amount. Even the blood of Jesus and the anointing of God that they received free to distribute free, some Nigerian pastors are selling it. Imagine what's going on in IDP camps, they might be selling the donated food and shelter to the victims, and their stories of oppression of victims in those camps must be true. On judgment day, Nigeria own go dey separate. Too much wickedness in the land.

you really think it is up to YOU to fix Nigeria?

you are on a LONG THING

Nigeria can NEVER be fixed *same with most of Africa*

because the ingredients for "fixing" is non existent

Repairing a country starts from the MIND

And that is where our people and govt get it wrong
without cleaning up the twisted and fvcked up minds of many NiggerArea citizens and reorientation
every other thing is wrong

Fashola govt proved that

despite his efforts, because of the $hithole tendencies of a typical black man (Nigerians) ; they bastardised his legacy and efforts

the minority who want to change things can't because the larger majority would sabotage them....

so they are fed up and applying for express entry to Canada where their skills would be better utilised

it's a catch 22 situation for Nigeria really.

I would have just walked out with that net. That would create a scene and the police will be invited. At the end all nets in the shop will be confiscated.

The mosquito nets may be "Not For Sale" as stated by USAID, but the mosquito nets may not be "Not For Sale" by law.

If USAID does not want the mosquito nets to be sold, then providing the nets for free is not enough. They should also provide sufficient funds for transportation and distribution of the nets all over the country.

For those who do not want to pay for the mosquito nets that are "for sale" in the market, they should go to the USAID office (wherever it is) and collect a few for themselves.

1) Nassarawa

U.S. PROVIDES 1.6 MILLION BED NETS FOR NIGERIA'S NASARAWA STATE

President's Malaria Initiative has provided 24 million nets for Nigeria

For Immediate Release

Thursday, March 22, 2018

Lafia, Nigeria – At a ceremony held March 15, the United States handed over 1.6 million long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets as part of its comprehensive effort to control malaria across Nigeria.

The donation was made possible through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and jointly implemented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The bed nets, valued at $4.5 million, will be distributed in all local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

The ceremony was attended by Jummai Ali Agara, wife of the Nasarawa State Deputy Governor who served as the  state’s “net ambassador” to advocate for their widespread use; Commissioner for Health Daniel Iya; Hajiya Maryam Balarabe Abdullahi, wife of the Speaker Nasarawa State Assembly; Chairman of the House Committee on Health Muhammed Okpede; and Director Public Health Dr. Ibrahim Adamu.

“In our partnership to fight malaria, we encourage all Nigerians, and especially parents and guardians, to acquire bed nets and use them regularly,” USAID/Nigeria Mission Director Stephen M. Haykin said of the donation.  “Bed net use benefits individuals, families and communities.”

To complement the net donation, PMI provided an additional $1 million for logistics, including transportation of the nets, community mobilization, and training of workers charged with their distribution.

Sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net every night is proven to be the best way to prevent malaria. The nets put a vital barrier between people and the mosquitoes that carry malaria, particularly from dusk to dawn.  Malaria is one of the leading killers of children in Nigeria, particularly during the rainy season when the mosquito population increases.

Malaria control is a centerpiece to the USAID health portfolio, which also supports increasing access to health services – especially for the poor.  The United States believes investing in the health of the Nigerian people can command great economic returns in terms of work productivity and overall quality of life.

Since 2011, the U.S. government has spent more than $420 million to control malaria in Nigeria including distribution of nearly 24 million mosquito nets.  This has resulted in a 36 percent reduction in malaria incidence among children under age five, according to the Malaria Indicator Survey.

More than half of U.S. funding for malaria goes into procuring and distributing insecticide treated bed nets, malaria diagnostic kits, and malaria medicines.  The United States also supports advocacy and mobilization to encourage community members to sleep under the bed nets every night, and trains health workers to test for malaria before treatment.

U.S. DISTRIBUTES 3.3 MILLION INSECTICIDE-TREATED BED NETS TO PREVENT MALARIA IN AKWA IBOM STATE

The bed nets, valued at $9.7 million, will be distributed in all local government areas of the state.

For Immediate Release

Tuesday, November 6, 2018

Uyo, Nigeria – The U.S. government, through the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), recently donated 3.3 million bed nets for distribution in Akwa Ibom State.  PMI is jointly implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The bed nets, valued at $9.7 million, will be distributed in all local government areas of the state. The U.S. government also provided an additional $1.6 million for logistics, including transportation and community mobilization – for a total contribution of $11.3 million. The Akwa Ibom government led the planning, coordination, and distribution effort which concluded on October 12.

The bed net distribution is a critical component of the ongoing effort to end malaria in Nigeria. Malaria is one of the deadliest diseases in Nigeria, killing an estimated 107,000 people in 2016. The disease is especially prevalent during the rainy season, when the mosquito population increases.

“The provision of these bed nets is a call to action to us in the state government to even do more for the health of our people,” the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, said about the distribution.

This activity will benefit the 5.9 million residents of Akwa Ibom.  At a minimum, two people within each household will have at least one net for use to prevent malaria under the distribution plan.   A similar distribution will begin in late November in Bauchi State.

Sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net every night is one of the best ways to prevent malaria.  Bed nets put a vital barrier between people and the mosquitoes that carry malaria, most importantly during the hours from dusk to dawn. Nightly use of insecticide-treated bed nets prevents infections, which in turn prevents the spread of malaria.

Since 2011, PMI has procured 42 million insecticide treated nets for Nigeria, valued at $126 million.  Over 50 percent of the overall $490 million in U.S. funding for malaria control goes into procuring and distributing insecticide treated bed nets, malaria diagnostic kits, and malaria medicines.  In addition, PMI supports advocacy and mobilization to encourage members of the community to sleep under the bed nets every night, and trains health workers to test for malaria before treatment.
