Well, government policies do change with time. Another government could come in tomorrow and decide to toll the bridge and other new roads/bridges across the country. If the money received from the tolls would actually be used to maintain the roads/bridges to global standards, then tolling shouldn't be a bad idea. But you and I know how Nigerian governments operate, the money realised would certainly be diverted even whilst the roads/bridges degrade without maintenance.
its pathetic embarassed

And they still hate Buhari. What your brother Goatluck could not do for 5.5 wated years, what your party PDP could not do for 16 miserable years, your enemy, the Fulani herdsman called Buhari is doing it. May God not make us beg our enemy for food. The money in imPatience Jonathan accounts can build this bridge.

That's why you are not an engineer.

The question is..... since they can sandfill the construction site for heavy trucks to move materials, why can't they just sandfill that very place and build the road on it without building the bridge?

Won't it save more than building the bridge? undecided

Wouldn't building the road across stop the flow of the river
And say during the rainy season, the volume of water in the river increases, the road gets flooded, people die........ I'm sure you'd be the first to point fingers at the FG for constructing bad roads.

Longer bridges abroad dont hv this much pillers....bad engineering!

Illiterate oshi.... abroad and Nigeria are the same abi....

Wherever you are thinking of abroad and Nigeria don't have the same Geological and Geographical factors, these are considered when constructing bridges

I'm sure you're alluding to a suspension bridge. It's a different design altogether, with its own advantages and disadvantages. The nature of the soil and river is just one of the factors taken into account when designing a bridge.

Each of those piers are sitting on underwater pile foundations. And if they just install culverts under a sand-filled road across the river, as you tried to suggest in your other post, the road will be washed off,
especially in a flood where the level of water is even more than the road, and the force from the current can easily make mince meat of the whole thing done there.

The 2nd RNB is an Incrementally launched Pre-stressed box girder bridge, it is very cost effective. It is same with what we (JBN) are handling here at Bodo-Bonny road. The bridge design allows you to span up to 70m pier to Pier (column to column) unlike the conventional beam bridge (be it prestressed or precast).
Moreover, the other types of bridges like the suspension and cable stay bridges you see in those western countries requires "huge" funds.

RNB 1...has no concrete nd has stay over 50 years nd counting. yet beautiful....

The toi mny pillers carrying this makes it a very simple nd direct construction....any local firm cn do it!

How will the river Niger flow on completion of the bridge, if they do what you are suggesting?
Not practicable or realistic both here or anywhere in the world. The road is just temporarily done for the purpose of easy logistics.

You can't fill all the water area at the same time or else there'd be overflowing of the river and flooding, that's how bridge is built.

Engineer, don't die of hatred. There is a space for vessels close to the first Niger bridge already which is not far from the second Niger bridge. Ships and vessels are making use of that and as a result they have no business getting to the second Niger bridge.

Hmmmm

Am not good in this but what if the ship comes through the other direction of second Niger bridge?

Idiots even if GEJ was still there, the bridge construction will have continued regardless. The financing arrangement was already sorted by them. Okonjo Iweala, the current MD of Nigeria Sovereign Wealth Fund (NSIA), Mr. Uche Orji all perfected the financing arrangement with the FG already paying down their 30% counterpart funding and NSIA and JB will source the remaining through ECA and equities. PMB assumed into office and saw a worked out system in place and followed it up as expected of him
So stop blabbing about how PMB is doing us a favour, because it's not a favour, it's our bloody right. Even if he decides to hault the project, successive administrations will complete it. So Bleep off

more over the construction of the bridge started in 2014 under gej, and it was already up to the pillar level before pmb took over. it was slated to be commissioned in 2016. but pmb's government delayed it terming it as a corrupt route via which gej was siphoning Nigeria's money. They even setup a committee to investigate the past government but came out with nothing. It was when PDP started criticizing them that they reluctantly continued the construction of the bridge.
