Lagos-Ibadan Closure: LASTMA, FRSC Embark On Assessment of The Traffic Impact by TheAutoReporter: 12:46pm On Aug 02, 2019
Sequel to the planned partial closure of traffic at the Kara bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the LASTMA, FRSC embark on an assessment of traffic impact of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The planned partial closure of a part of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for reconstruction has been shifted to Monday, August 5.

Information gathered on Thursday from the construction firm handling the section one of the road from Lagos to Sagamu Interchange, Julius Berger Nigeria, indicated that reconstruction work might not begin fully until Monday as against the August 3 notice earlier given.

This, the source said, was to enable the Federal Government to conclude its sensitisation of leaders of the communities along the axis and other stakeholders to get their buy-in and ensure the smooth execution of the project.

The Federal Road Safety Corps had hinted that the construction company had given notification of its plan to commence the reconstruction work on the Berger Bus Stop – Kara Cattle Market end of the road on August 3, and would close some sections for about four months.

The LASTMA, FRSC embark on an assessment of the traffic impact of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today to see things for themselves..

Does this ppl have an adviser so, or they are just good at killing Nigerians with frustration.

4 months of serious security risks. Highway criminals no dey take eyes see traffic, especially at night. The first thing they should be brainstorming about is security. Those highway forests are very porous and serve as criminal hideouts.

Exactly my views too on other platforms...

They claimed that the closure would end in October, ahead of a stress-free Christmas, so, why start now, rather than after Sallah (Ileya, Big Eid), which starts on Sunday August 11, and for which public holidays would be declared on Monday and Tuesday, August 12 and 13 respectively.

October is two months away from Christmas, what would have cost them to shift this daft closure until after Sallah? That road is always a den of heavy traffic and this senseless decision will definitely make it even more cumbersome for travelers, majority of whom cannot afford air travel the elites so much enjoy...

A lot of people would travel out of Lagos to their home states from next Friday ahead of the Sallah on Sunday, August 11.

The issue of timing is a very stupid decision...

Which traffic impact assessment do they need again?

There is always traffic on that road when Salah is approaching because of those buying cows and rams at the kara market.

Next week is RCCG convention, with Salah coming up immediately after. The traffic on that road will be crazy next week. And once there is serious traffic on that road, there will be traffic in almost all of Lagos angry

They should shift the closure till after Salah.

it took Obasanjo less than 3 years to construct the road in the 70's with obsolete equipments, when the place was a thick forest and this is busiest road in Nigeria and to upgrade the road is taking more than 3years.

if there is adequate traffic management strategies on ground to control movement, congestion will be minimal.

Its easier when no one is plying the route than when it is a main route for moving out of lagos.
Just think before you type.

Aren’t they suppose to fix alternative routes out of Lagos ? Especially the Ijebu-Itokin road that is on the verge of comatose and Ikorodu- Sagamu road.

This road closure would seriously affect those travelling for the Sallah holidays.

I remember in December 2017 when there was fuel scarcity, Igbos accused Buhari of orchestrating the the fuel scarcity to punish Christians and Igbos. In fact, the Ohaneze pointedly accused Buhari of using fuel scarcity to punish Igbos and Christians. Here is the link

Just for a minute imagine what the Igbos would have said of if this was closed during Christmas.

Solution is simple. Construct another highway from scratch and link the two when completed.
Nigeria does not like to plan ahead hence the overheated frustration.
