Bede2u:You just highlighted some of the mistakes of Ojukwu even according to my father and late uncle who were Biafran commanders close to Ojukwu during the war. If Ojukwu had signed the deal with USSR and rallied more Niger Delta people to join the war on the side of Biafra, Biafra would have won the war. Ojukwu's greatest mistake was not singing the deal with USSR for arms supply which would have saw Biafran troops advance into northern and western regions through massive air raids and bombardments which would have definitely pushed Gowon to surrender or allow Biafra go. It was British air raids on Biafran region that made the war so difficult for Biafran soldiers to sustain. Biafra was better in ground fights and attacks despite having less arms and few trained soldiers but Nigeria had the air power through British Airforce support. Ojukwu was brave but too stubborn in a way to take advises from Biafran elites which cost Biafra the war |

It was actually economic sanctions and trade embargoes that ended the Biafran insurgency. If you follow the early months of the war and the first year, the Biafrans were actually winning and advancing westwards into the then Midwest region. But when the sanctions and embargoes began to take effect, they could no longer buy weapons and that was the beginning of the end for Biafra. MetaPhysical: 1 Like 1 Share |

KingOdart:Go back and look at map of Nigeria and check how many states that faced the whole of Nigeria and held them in a bloody war for 3 years despite massive military supports from world powers then; Britain, USSR, and even Egypt. It was only France and Gabon that sent some food reliefs to Biafrans during the war. Britain had to support Nigeria because Ojukwu ordered their oil firms to leave at the start of the war and they needed crude oil then to drive their own British economy. USSR now Russia offered Ojukwu an arms and military support swap deal with crude oil, Ojukwu refused thinking he would have won the war in less than a year. Your Nigerian government wasted Nigeria's resources, bribing foreign powers, sold Bakasi Peninsula to Cameroon all in their desperate bid to win Biafra yet you think it was an easy win. Mind you again, what caused most deaths in Biafra was not just military attacks cos Biafran soldiers repelled federal forces so well, it was Awolowo's change of currency policy to make it difficult for Biafra to buy food, drugs, etc from internstional markets that led to the starvation and hunger in Biafra land which caused the death of so many Biafran children, aged people and women. So think again 3 Likes |

franchasng: Ojukwu was a delusional Marxist before the pogroms. All the 5 majors were Marxists as well. Ojukwu believed in one Nigeria but repented after he saw that mohammedism can never be defeated by Marxism. If he had signed any pact with the Jewish run USSR, I can tell you it would have been far more disastrous as the US would have sent military boots to support Niggeria against Biafra. Ojukwu's failure was in his past. A card carrying member of the Jewish controlled British Communist party when he was a student at Oxford. There was no way the Americans would have trusted a once radical Communist in the midst of the red scare that was sweeping through south East Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia) and South America. Ifenjua and Nzeagwu were all die hard Communists who wanted a one United Nigeria and Ojukwu was right to execute them because they had been secretly holding briefs with Nigerian forces. Ojukwu learnt his folly on being a Marxist and supporting Jews. This was his only mistake which Kanu is repeating. I am a fascist and proud. Multiculturalism is a massive Jewish plot and as we can see from both the defunct USSR and Niggeria, a total disaster. Nationalism as embodied in race culture and Christian religion is the only way to defeat the same Islamic beast and their globalist backers. 1 Like 2 Shares |

EkunKekere:God bless you. It was the economy sanctions, embargoes facilitated by British government, and currency swap by Awolowo that brought an end to the war. Biafrans were so innovative during the war. Their ingenuity was next to none. If the local crafts and technologies developed by Igbos during that Biafran war were preserved like Europe and America preserved all the world war II technologies, believe me, Nigeria and black race would have had their own indigenous technology by now, but they destroyed and abandoned those Biafran technologies just to spite Igbos, Igbos must surely rise, it can ever be forever like this, we shall rise! 3 Likes |

ConqueredWest:We do not really pray for war, all I wish is a total restructuring of Nigeria to become independent nations united by one central government but each region must be solely independent with their national or regional security (police, etc) and resources solely in their hands or at worst a peaceful division of Nigeria into as many nations that desire and wish to have their own independent nation. But if worst comes to worst then we fight again, and this time it will be mortal combat of fight to finish! All states and communities in Nigeria must feel the wrath of the new war should it happen so that the remaining people that will be alive after the war will have fear and respect for sanity and human rights, and they will be forced to what's right and build a prosperous nation for the future generation 2 Likes |

Biafra 30,000 active combatants with a handful of volunteers and mercenaries. Nigerian Federal forces 250,000 active regular combatants supported by military advisers from USSR, UK, Egyptian and Pakistan pilots and combatants plus an unknown number of Chadian mercs. Total Military Casualties 100,000 dead. If every single one of the 30,000 Biafran soldiers was killed in action that leaves a whopping 70,000 dead federal soldiers. The kill ratio was 2- 10. That is assuming at least a 60% casualty figure on the Biafran side, there would be at least 18,000 KIAs with 12,000 surviving the war. Consequently, we are left with 86,000 dead niggerians. Now if you consider that the fighting force was overwhelmingly in favour of the Niggerians, 3 to 25, you will see this figure of 86000 killed Niggerians as a remarkable feat. Outgunned 3 to 25 with no air and naval power plus no excess world war 2 weapons from UK and Russia, the Biafrans fought gallantly. |

BaaleOko:"Meanwhile, angry about the phone calls from Ojukwu, Lt. Col. Muhammed began making plans to march on Enugu - from which he was eventually restrained. Later that day, for reasons that have never been clarified, Ojukwu slipped out of Enugu (leaving Ogunewe behind) and went to Onitsha from where he was making his calls to Ogundipe in Lagos encouraging him to stand firm. Much later that night, urged by Mr. P. Okeke who was then Commissioner of Police, he returned to Enugu, moving his office, home and relatives to the Police HQ, surrounded by a special guard of Mobile Policemen of Igbo origin. Ojukwu then spent the next one week insisting that northern soldiers in Enugu (who comprised no less than two thirds of the battalion) be removed from the city before he would consider leaving the safety of the Police HQ back to the State House. Through all this, Ogunewe kept in touch with Gowon in Lagos and was crucial to arrangements that were subsequently made to successfully repatriate non-eastern soldiers and their families out of the region - a remarkable achievement for which he was rewarded by being fully reabsorbed into the Nigerian Army without loss of rank after the civil war. But even this was not so straightforward. For one, Ogunewe had to resist all kinds of entreaties to allow vengeful Igbo mobs gain entry into the barracks to liquidate the northern troops there..." Excerpts from the book "Operation Aure, Nothern counter coup of 1966" by Nowa Omogwi. Anyone who told you Ojukwu was in control of troops at that time is not being sincere. The dude was just running around trying to save his neck. |

Have you noticed that ethnic nationality( Hausa-Fulani) who wanted war ended up fighting the war least while the ethnic nationality( Yoruba) that rejected war fromm the outset ended fighting the war most - and in fact they were the difference maker. How do you explain this reversal of roles? Why did Yoruba of Nigeria fight the Nigeria -Biafra War? Your response will be appreciated. Brugo: |
