The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), has condemned the current ranking in the country’s police force in which no Igbo officer is Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) or Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).In a statement yesterday, the group stressed that the region was left with only six Commissioners of Police (CPs). It said the Igbo rejects the lopsided arrangement, adding: “Out of seven DIGs who head seven key departments of the Nigeria Police (NPF), South East should have at least one DIG. “The South East should also be entitled to two Police Zonal Command AIGs of the 12 and minimum of four or maximum of five AIGs of the about 20-22 serving AIGs.” On the 95 serving CPs, the South East should have at least 15 CPs and not less than six state commands CPs. “The allocation of only six CPs and one Acting CP including a retiring CP is not only rejected but also grossly undermines the equity and fairness inherent in the geopolitical zones arrangement.” The statement jointly issued by Head of Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, Obianuju Joy Igboeli, Head of Campaign and Publicity, Evangeline Chidinma Udegbunam and Board Chair of Intersociety, Emeka Umeagbalasi, also disclosed that there was no Igbo DIG or AIG in the NPF.It said by the current structure, the South East has been excluded from the Nigeria Police Management Team (PMT), comprising the serving IGP, seven DIGs and 20 AIGs. The group also argued that by Section 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution and the equity principles of regional representation and national integration, the Police Service Commission (PSC) should ensure non-exclusion of any geopolitical zone in ranking and promotion of senior police officers and assignment of duties to them. The affected senior police officers are those classified and captured in the Police Officers Senior Staff List from the IGP to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) updated on a monthly basis. Contrary to this provision, the group argued that the PSC and NPF were breaching the constitutional provision and principles by “deliberately excluding senior Igbo police officers from sensitive positions.” Specifically, DIG Godwin C. Nwobodo from Aninri, Enugu State retired on August 12, 2019 without replacement. Until his retirement, he was a member of the PMT, representing the South East Zone and DIG in charge of Department of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Also, former CP and now retired AIG Chris Okey Ezike from Ogboji, Anambra State was the only serving Igbo AIG as at March 2019, out of 20 serving AIGs then, among many others. |

They should just promote them to DIG, AIG because they are Igbo. Promotion should be based on ethnic bases. 4 Likes 1 Share |

The solution is to correct the imbalance... Even in homes the major reason for siblings conflict is when love and favour amongst the children from the parents is lopsided... I think something should be done about this... Our security agencies should not be exclusively for Northerners as is being perceived, the imbalance is too glaring and they are mostly uneducated with poor English. 7 Likes |

The real question is any Igbo man due to be in the supposed post dutifully as qualified to promoted. If an Igbo man is due, then unfair, but if not leave sentiments out of it, it is just fair. It shouldn't be because you are a particular tribe you should be favoured or short changed unduly. And also there's no federal character in promotion. 2 Likes |

Actually there is federal character in appointments and promotion to all public offices as far as they are spread among geopolitical zones. That is why there is a law to that effect. tunjiajayi: 11 Likes 2 Shares |

tunjiajayi: Do you want me to believe you typed this nonsense question in good fate? Asking if any igbo is qualified, how many years will it take you to the highest rank in police? Are you saying we don't have igbo that have served 1990, is it the promotion exam they wouldn't pass while your hausas pass it, is it that they didn't enter force as graduate from 95 up, common it's share marginalized. 16 Likes |

Isnt it time for all Igbo national assembly members boycotted the NA in Abuja and moved to Enugu in order to send a strong but symbolic message? Isnt it time for all the 5 Govs in SE passed a strong message also? The present Govt is doing all these cos there is no strong pushback from the group of persons thag are clearly marginalised. A marginalisation that has never been seen before in this country. And the problem is that the only persons fighting this are seccessionists from IPOB who many of us are opposed to. But how effective would that opposition be to these seccessionists in tbe face of these glaring marginalization esp if SE elected officials are themselves not pushing back 13 Likes |

tunjiajayi: Recruitment, appointments and promotions are all subject to federal character. It may almost always be observed in the breach dependent on the whims and caprices of various heads/leaders but federal character is applicable to all these. 1 Like |

Nigerfine2: Let me put it this way, as the queue been disrupted? Has it been jumped? Has it slid? Is there a policy that says there must be such and such number of citizens working under a particular parastatal. We are talking of promotion of duty, not appointment of post. Get it |

freeze001: Are you saying you can, would or should be promoted above all others because you are of a particular tribe in clause of federal character, there's something called next highest ranking officer in civil service that should be the norm without politics, office politics and tribalism. Should a corporal become a superintendent, because he is the only from his tribe and there's the vacancy for 7 posts which he isn't qualified to hold, be vied for the such an exercise where there are thousand more ranking employees in the office. Imagine that! |

Honestly, Igbos are self-centered people, they want everything to be in their favor but they won't work for it When it comes to football, Igbos dominated it but the other tribes didn't complain at all but when it comes to things they weren't favored, they start their nonsense 3 Likes 1 Share |

Auladimeji2: Why not remove a federal character, quota system and leave everything open. Igbos have no problem with justice and equality...Could you explain why TY Danjuma was promoted above his colleagues in the 60s...it was to help the north catch up...No region is more self-centered than the north. How come almost all the CP of police in the SE is from the north? How come you from Zamfara who had the score of 3 in examination has more chances of becoming the president, minister, IG of police, Chief of the army, Chief of Customs, Chieg Justice, etc etc...than I from Asaba Delta state who scored 300?...and yet you evil people want unity and hate anyone who questions these injustices? 25 Likes 2 Shares |

Is it any wonder people are disgracing their leaders outside the country as these leaders have not used the constitutional means to question actions by this President? Can you recall how many judicial inquiries Trump is going through in the US? Have you seen why Nigeria is called a sH*thole? 13 Likes 1 Share |
