How many of us thought of it in another angle that she might not be referring to xenophobic attacks. I think she is talking abt interpersonal relationships with people.e.g friends, neighbors, family, colleagues and co

Emotions aside, she told no lie in her comment. That is not to justify the situation, not at all.

From the perspective of our country men and women engaging in crimes outside, precipitating these kind of backlash, she's right. In addition, from the perspective of our people hating themselves especially across ethnic, religious and political divide, she's also right. The way we treat ourselves at home influences the way strangers treat us outside.

Nevertheless, tempers and emotions are running high at the moment, therefore, anything other than sympathies and supportive words will be misconstrued as taking sides with the enemy.

God help us.

These people are telling foreigners to leave their country. Saying that foreigners have taken all their jobs and girls, you're talking about Nigerians living in South Africa being criminals. These people attack all foreigners who are of black origins due their inferiority complex. Do you know that the circulating picture of a burning man on Facebook is not that of a Nigerian man but that of a Mozambican man back in 2008, that xenophobic attack alone claimed the lives of 62 foreigners

check out what some of your fellow Nigerians are doing for living SA, a lot of them are into crime and not only in SA but wherever you see Nigerians you see crime as if that is our logo, the problems I am having is just that they are handling it in barbaric way

Who told you that South African blacks are fighting crimes by killing foreigners? Have you listened to their audio or watch them? Why are the South African whites not joining them? Do you even think Nigerians are the only victims of their xenophobic attacks over the last 15 years? You're mistaking. What they're saying is that foreigners have taken over their jobs and their women

If she means the Nigerian government then I can agree. This cannot happen to African Americans. The USA doesn’t let other countries play with its citizens.

Gennygolden:
Statements like this is so ambiguous. she might be right or wrong but a detailed explanation would have done justice to her assumption.

Lordbricks:
Its too vague a statement to be used anyhow.

gaventa:
People don’t understand what she means, it’s just like saying if the government has taken us seriosuly outsiders won’t even dare try shit.

openmine:
.....a bitter truth that most people will hardly comprehend!
Kate is simply saying.... Don't expect to be treated any BETTER by a foreigner in their country when you are treated badly by the same foreigner in your own country while your leaders watch and do nothing!

These people up here show that at least some of us ARE thinking. These posters quoted above for example, DO understand context, nuance and scenario building - with the first three being particularly careful about taking sides. The last two have taken an alternative viewpoint that the majority of posters here (in their rush to judgement) have not even bothered to consider.

Henshaw's cryptic comments are open to multiple interpretation. Perhaps that was the objective all along... undecided

What is sad is how some posters on this thread have "interpreted" her tweet as a parallel justification for their deviant, latent desire to freely rape and assault women at will. What is the relationship between Henshaw's comments and non-consensual sex? Only dark, dark minds can even begin to automatically associate the two. Where is the link? undecided

Our road is damn too long.

Charity begins at home indeed. No one supports killing of anybody whether it be a Nigerian or a Foreigner but from the Nigerian perspective, we need to look inwards as to what some of us have caused (not all of us cos indeed there are hardworking and intelligent ones) But the few lot with their desire for fast riches have put the majority into a despicable situation. Truth be told, we are not respected as Nigerians anywhere in the world anymore even though we have one of the best and brilliant minds in the world. Our own government does not value lives of Nigerians, so how do we expect other countries to value us? We are in a deep mess and i wonder why the youths looting shops and displaying sudden aggression towards harmless business units have not carried those same tendencies to demand better from our Government? I weep and pray for Nigeria, for the sake of our young ones, i do hope this country will rise again

Nigerians have attacked Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, over a comment she made in the midst of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The 48-year-old star made the tweet on Tuesday.

“We are responsible for how people treat us,” she wrote.

Aren't you aware that one fruit bad affects the entire fruit? In case of Nigeria many fruits have tarnish our image however it doesn't warrant the looting and destruction of people and their properties. I listened to the deputy commissioner of police (SA)speak where he implied that South Africans don't want foreigners in land. If you watch closely similar crime they accuse us of are been perpetrated by our brothers in other countries. Kate was just blunt about the whole thing instead of been silent. It would have been better she didn't contribute and if she wanted, she should have condemned the act.

Why can't their law enforcement agencies jail those criminals for life? Aren't there Nigerians doing drugs and crime in Indonesia? How come Indonesians are not killing Nigerians? It's simple, their law enforcement agencies are on top of the situation.

Talking about Nigerians living in South Africa, are you also aware that majority of blacks who are doing great in research in South Africa are Nigerians? I was chatting with a former classmate who recently finished her PhD in SA. She told me that their people are very lazy unlike Nigerians who are very hardworking. As a result, their white lords prefer to work with Nigerians than black South Africans.

The issue is question isn't about drugs and crime. It's just jealousy. Many Nigerians are being employed in very great positions in SA while their people are languishing in poverty. They are very bitter about that, but is it the fault of Nigerians? If they feel the foreigners are too many, they should tighten their immigration rules. That way, people will be forced to leave. That's a better approach than killing innocent people like animals.

Only fools like her generalize crime like she did, majority of those attacked are likely innocent of any form of crimes. May be she sent her sense of judgement on an errand before making this kind of irritating and insensitive comments. She needs to openly apologize to those attacked and those who lost their loved ones.
