I learnt this the hard way!
Local kazeem was imported from Lagos to the south south to fix vehicle completely. When he was done, he specifically told me to use Mobil xhp.

After reading some stuff online, I ordered for castrol gtx and the engine never remained the same.
It was like a grinding machine afterwards, I had to sell the vehicle shortly after.

GAZZUZZ, good day. I have been using this Castrol synthetic on my 07 Sienna. Have serviced twice since I bought it. Is that oil good or should I change to yours?

kindly confirm

Is your thermostat present?

Is your cooling fan connected directly?

My fan is direct.

I will have to confirm from my Kazim for that of thermostat.

Thanks for the response.

I will be back with the info

I have called my Kazim, he said that he didn't bother checking. But said Ladipo people won't remove anything on the engine and that he as well didn't remove anything, he said so, thermostat is fixed on the engine. That's what he said.

It’s not USA but I will use that and not bat an eyelid.

Just change your oil as per normal and don’t abuse your drivetrain.

I used to use Total but now use Forte? I seek out good filters with decent anti drain valve.

I've heard some nice things about Forte Oil. Old boy uses it, but his oil change intervals varies from 7 weeks to 12 weeks.

I just had a 3cyl engine rebuilt and the mechanic insisted on Forte in order to guarantee his work.

I follow an extended oil change interval in the USA but would never do as such here in Nigeria.

We have a decidedly harsh operating theatre.

My v6 engine is burning oil at a rate of 1 litre per 3,500 kms. I'm thinking of ditching the Mobil 1 extended performance for an oil weight that is heavier. I'm leaning heavily towards the forte oil option (will carry out changes every 2 months or 3000km whichever comes first) - Odometer is on the high side currently cry

I really wish that there’s a lab here that can readily test oils.

I’m not convinced that importing engine oils is prudent. We’ll eat local food, take local medicine but won’t use local oil in disposable vehicle parts grin

when you say "switch",are you switching from synthetic to mineral oil? though I hear Forte oil is top notch, they only produce mineral not synthetic (I may be wrong).don't you think they'd be consequences like higher fuel consumption, louder engine noise and the dreaded sludge?

Yes synthetic to mineral. Engine is at almost 400k km. And already I top a quartz on average every 3,500 km with the synthetic high mileage Mobil 1 oil I've been using. My brother, as for higher fuel consumption, what could possibly go wrong? I'm not bothered about those minute details (it's a Benz, 19-21 litres per 100km city driving. 14-16 litres per 100 km Highway driving).
As for sludge, I'll change the mineral oil every 2 months or 3,000 km. I'm certain to reach 3000km every 6 weeks, and besides shorter commutes are worse than the long distance movement I embark on a weekly basis since it takes the oil time to warm up. As for engine noise, this is a bulletproof M112 engine, it's dirt cheap and they don't die that easily... Sadly Mercedes Benz doesn't build them like this anymore.

Ultimately you’ll need to do what you think is best for you but for me it’s just sheer insanity to be this nauseous about imported oil.

As long as the oil meets the spec from the manufacturer then I really don’t care about the source. Like I said I have adjusted my OCI to be much shorter due to the extreme conditions that I operate my vehicles in over here.

Now, the caveat emptor, if you have a Ferrari, Lamborghini, and other vehicles with strict specs then sure import, not the 5 gallon but the drums if you can.

When I read of guys on here all frazzled about import oil to use in Camry, Accord, I just laugh.

But to each his own.
