The Federal Government has to explain, the economic impact of the 5% vat, on the life of an average Nigerian so far. The masses are the major stakeholders because in most cases, they are usually compelled to pay by the government appointed cronies in form of one extortion or the other. If the economic impact of 5% vat can't be justified by the government, then why increase to 7.2%?

The National Assembly will need to amend the law enabling VAT for it to be effective. But as you and I know, the leadership of both houses are already in PMB’s control so it’s not going to be a problem getting them to pass the amended law!!! Sai baba!! cheesy

scaramucci:
Can tax be increased without recourse to the National Assembly? Lawyers and constitutionalists in the house, your opinion is needed.

The total earnings coming into the federal purse is dwindling, while government expenditure is increasing and foreign direct investment is reducing so the only thing they can do is to increase the tax in order to sustain government expenditures. They won’t cut cost of governance and reduce loans , so this is the end result. Very soon fuel price will be increased, cos the naira is getting devalued and NNPC and CBN cannot sustain the current subsidy costs. It’s bleak all around, so tighten your belts everyone cheesy cheesy

Adecodedstar:
You are absolutely right. What do they plan to use the increase for? This government needs to be answering tons of questions from Nigerians everyday because they've completely lost track of their final destination.

at the end of the day they go still order new cars worth billions of naira and share billions among themselves in the same country were an average Nigerian provides variably everything the gvt needs to provide for themselves all bills on tax payers money and to make the matter worse it has extended to VAT we are done for in this country, instead make them begin shut down government offices with protest demand for answers and counter them with cutting cost if they shift the reason on gvt sustainability no o but if na Bisola and pastor Krest case the protest go long from NiG reach Zimbabwe

Human right radio Brekete family needs to hear about this, it our right and duty to pay tax but when it is taken too far it would make life uneasy

just imagine this VAT would affect as little as young kids just imagine 20 or 50 naira sweet hiked to 30 or 60 or even more

For students custard paint rubber that is 1400 just imagine it being hiked to 1600

for families out there that are struggling to feed they no go chop belle full again

I dey talk na because I be student and e go affect me na (VAT) value added tax charged on goods we dey talk from 5 whatever to 7 haba e too much o

One of the Best decisions taken by Buhari.. Should be 8% to be honest

We can't rely on oil anymore. We have the lowest VAT in the whole region, we need roads, bridges, rail, busses, security, oil is not enough for 200 million people.

we have a national budget for 200 million people equivalent to a Walmart a grocery store and you want good healthcare??

Before you agree to that can you compare the countries at the top on that list before Nigeria given the vast resources and economy given the past 15 years or more?

Is there any justification to do such given that the government will and never may even do those things which you think they are supposed to provide?

And we will still find ourselves in this faulty applications of simple economic principles even in the next 20 years if care is not taken.

Sometimes, I do think God doesn't feel concern about Nigerians and Nigeria anymore. Because He's tired of our foolishness, mno matter how foolish or cruel Buhari's policies are, you will still see some people fighting to protect him
As in... Do we love being poor or we are afraid of the truth?

Believe it or not, an average Nigerian is a coward
