Only Oyo and Northern Yorubas referred to themselves as Yorubas before the 19th.

It was people like Ajayi Crowther a returning slave who forged a single Yoruba identity amongst the "Aku" "Eku"(Today's modern Youbas) people which included those that referred to themselves as Nago i.e. Nago-jebu (ijebu), Nago-ketu (in Benin republic).
