Greetings to everyone that has contributed to this thread. I'm currently 33 years old and I have no programming skill whatsoever but I'm really interested in programming. I would like to get some advice from gurus in the house, what skill will have a dominant place in the future with good financial remuneration to go with it. Please help
I doubt if you can learn programming simply because you want to make money out of it. Without the passion to code, you will get frustrated and eventually dump your plans for another.

), }, ; and code blocks will be your worst enemies in programming. Not to discourage you, get a good teacher and you might just scale through.

At the age of 24.

My stack is java and and android currently learning Java EE after which I will embrace spring framework.

But I am jobless with the skill I have. I have attended interviews no feedback yet. My laptop got spoiled no money to get another one.

Sounds almost impossible
Re: Programmers: At What Age Did You Start Programming? by Kinkale(m): 7:27am On Dec 02, 2019
this year, 22. Began from the basics, HTML, CSS, but my laptop just spoilt now. It's a self-taught process since there's no money to pay for physical teaching. I'm using w3school.

please house, how can I improve myself and increase my zeal? sometimes I can go a week+ without even touching my system. Someone told me it's because I do not have a project I'm working on yet, but I'm still learning the basics. How can I improve?

Age 23... You can master it with consistency

Started after school..... Was 25 then now am 28..... Started with YouTube and Stack overflow when ever I meet a dead end.
So far I am Master in HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVASCRIPT. Currently learning React , ReactNative, Flutter and Laravel cos I have a dream to travel out someday and this skills are in top demand.

Focus on easy language to help you write your code very short.

For example ReactNative enable you to write your app in Android and iOS at once. This help you to cut cost of employing Android developer and iOS developer. Example Instagram, Facebook Messager.

But Google came out with Flutter... Another monster you just write your code for Android and iOS ( I think also for Destop App) at once which enable developer to write faster code without needs to be switching view in ReactNative or Trying to Re-arrange your code when there is new version of ReactNative.

Follow the trend to eat. and also have your own personal project.. that one is the big jack pot if you succeed.
you did good. Great direction

The thing is this, I have a family to cater for and having a steady income is a hurdle I'm still struggling to get past. I have a passion for programming, I'm currently studying computer science at NOUN because I think computers will play more important roles in the future and I would love to leave my mark. Right now, I'm trying to balance my passion on one side and my need for money(steady inflow) on the other side of the scale balance and the need for money outweighs my passion. I don't know if this makes sense.

I understand. What I am trying to say is that learning to code is a long term investment. You can't learn it in 3-4 months. It takes time. And through all this time, you will have 1 million reasons to give up. Algorithm, syntax errors, lack of zeal, frustration, time are some of the most common reasons why people get fed up and quit. If you are going to learn, then be prepared to encounter these problems. Cheers!

You will hardly see a girl in this kinda thread. But, if it's about Tacha and Mercy, they will be all over the place comparing the two.

Tomorrow, they will still say that whatever a guy can do, they can do better.

Anyways, bravo, coders!

I totally lost interest in programming when I was taught C++ and Java on the blackboard in the varsity. grin

Many Nigerian schools don't deserve to run IT courses. They will fool you for 4-5 years and give you a certificate later. cry

However, I may return to programming in the future if the need arises.

There are 2-3 baddass female programmers on NL. I think they stopped being active since the Programming/Web Development section was allowed to become a spam board.

Well, First of all, I salute all the programmers here, and the up-coming programmers. Una dey try I swear. I have a passion and flair for programming, but I neva get mind to start, it's like new languages and sequences are coming out every day and you won't know the one to pick from. And honestly my main reason for wanting to learn programming is to make money out of it, not just a hobby. I have the tools at my disposal (a strong laptop and good internet), I'm tech-savvy, and I believe age is on my side (I'm 20 and I recently wrote my final uni exams on August, I didnt read Computer).

So my main question now is, when I want to start learning, Which language would be better to learn first (as a launch pad for other languages)?

You can list them for me, I'll really appreciate. Thanks once again.

Exactly.
Some people actually feel that becoming a professional in programming is about dancing around different languages.

Without solving a real world problem with a certain programming language, the one who is conversant with 10 languages is not better than a person who cannot code.

Application is all that matters not the number of programming languages you know.
But what if you just want to hack? You should have good knowledge of all programming languages

Most people in here complaining they don't have a Laptop are not programmers please.
how would one use mobile phones to code I just laugh.

like seriously as a programmer you can't Save upto 50k to buy a London used laptop ?

ProphetAmos:

You can actually do almost everything you can do in a laptop with your mobile phone but some people won't just do their due diligence.
I have built a web app with just my mobile phone. I used termux to run the local host server in the background while I use chrome to access my app.
This app is a kind of showcase of my graphic works which I also design on mobile phone.
I installed django with pip using pydriod and wrote my scripts with it. Then hopped over to an writer to write the templates(HTML, CSS and JavaScript)
There is nothing to it. I am thinking of starting a tutorial on how to learn programming with Andriod phone. I will notify you when i start.
I have built two web app with my mobile phone only. I learnt bootstrap, w3css, HTML, CSS and python with my Andriod phone.
I even pushed the code to github with termux.
I will paste the repository link later here so you can see for yourself.
